My neighbor works at the Fort, so he fills me in from time to time. Here's the latest I've heard on both City Winery and Steelton Village: City Winery has already bought the building and has a sign up. Apparently, they are currently finishing up on a new location in another city. Once it's up and running, they will turn their focus to the Columbus location on South High. They still plan on work to start on the Columbus location in 2024. Steelton Village is a couple years away until we see vertical construction. Currently, they are renovating the inside of a couple of the buildings on the south part of the site along South High. Once those projects are complete, those will hold multiple retailers. They've already cleaned up some of the land that's on the far north part of the site closer to where the property hits the tracks behind where Dan's Drive Inn was. They plan on using the bulk of the Brownfield Remediation Funds they were awarded for cleanup in 2024. Demolition of most of the buildings on site isn't expected until late 2024 or early 2025. They plan to start vertical construction in late 2025

January 24, 20241 yr Columbus community touts public-private partnership in opening of South Side affordable housing Sixty new units on Columbus' South Side are now ready for residents. Development team Woda Cooper, Community Development for All People and Healthy Homes, an offshoot of Nationwide Children's Healthy Neighborhoods Healthy Families initiative, recently finished construction on Lockbourne Greene, a $16 million project at 1840 Lockbourne Road. The new apartments stand on a former Columbus Land Bank property. Rents will range from $760 to $999 per month, depending on income category and the size of the apartment. Apartments are being held for those who earn 40% to 70% of area median income, or approximately $39,680 to $69,440 annually for a family of four, according to data from Woda Cooper. My job is retail-related and I've seen many stores over the past few years become unviable, not because of substantial declines in sales but because of substantial increases in theft. At some point, it's just not worth it to keep the store open. A slight decrease in sales coupled with a huge increase in theft is a recipe for disaster.

Stringtown is very close as the crow flies, but the quarries really cut off that area from being easily accessible to S High. On its face, losing Walmart is not a huge setback, but if Krogers pulls up stakes next then we do have some real trouble. Aldi being across the street is also a nice resource for the neighborhood Assuming no other big box is interested in the location, developers could fit a lot of workforce housing on the Walmart site. Bus service is pretty good in the area, and the proximity to the new Metro Park behind Lowe's is another plus
February 21, 20241 yr I'm hearing rumblings that there is a proposal to tear down the Great Southern Shopping Center, along with the Kroger, Walmart, Tim Hortons and White Castle and build thousands of units of affordable housing.
