December 10, 2024Dec 10 Out of town developer wants to build 321 housing units on Columbus' Far South Side "Columbus' Far South Side could gain hundreds of new units of housing. There are plans for a variety of housing, including two-bedroom duplexes, three-bedroom two-story duplexes, ADA-compliant units and four-bedroom single units. Each unit is planned to be standalone. Plans call for a total of 321 units. Lincoln Avenue Communities – an affordable housing developer with headquarters in California and New York – has plans to redevelop the vacant property at 4086 S. High St. The site is about 44 acres and is bordered by South High Street and I-270. Columbus City Council approved variances on Monday to permit residential uses in the rural district and to decrease the required lot area per unit. The project also has the support of the Far South Side Area Commission." https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2024/12/10/far-south-housing.html

From October: City Winery still expects to be pouring glasses and hosting shows in Columbus "The New York-based restaurant and entertainment venue announced plans to open a Columbus location at 2108 S. High St in 2022. But news on the project has been mostly quiet since then. Founder Michael Dorf this week told Columbus Business First that City Winery still is coming. "We are almost there and look forward to starting construction soon,” he wrote in an email. The project has building permits pending with the city that were filed in May. Plans in Columbus call for a fully functioning winery, a restaurant and both indoor and outdoor spaces for live music and other performances as well as private events. City Winery is part of Steelton Village, a $350 million mixed-use project that will bring more commercial and residential development to the city’s South Side." https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2024/10/11/city-winery-columbus-construction-soon.html

February 8Feb 8 Something needed to happen with that building. It was so ugly inside even when it was an active thrift store.

February 20Feb 20 So is the Rice Bowl sign staying? I know I would be the type of person to drive by thinking there's a restaurant there...and even make plans to go, just to be disappointed in the end.

But now that I know it's Senior housing it makes sense. Not to keep going with all that "The South Side is Portsmouth" business but all the good residential towers in Portsmouth are Senior. I can't help myself.
April 6Apr 6 A new Speedway at the intersection of 104 and 71 is under construction. Not very exciting news but it will be convenient for travelers using 104 south since there aren't many gas stations. I marked it in red where it will be located.

April 22Apr 22 I hope this is an 'affordable' home build. Slab construction, 5 identical windows. There's alot of things driving the cost down. The design is fine. There's a buyer for everything and plenty of folks who don't prioritize natural light but it will be a crime if it is being sold at a luxury price. There are more exterior light fixtures than windows on this house.
