August 10, 20231 yr After a slow start, things are beginning to pick up at the Parsons Solar Field Project, located across Parsons Ave from the Google Data Center site on the far south side. Kind of hard to see because I couldn't get real close but it's much busier out here today than I've seen so far The first data center going up across the street at Google can be seen in the distance: https://news.wosu.org/politics-government/2023-05-04/columbus-breaks-ground-on-two-new-solar-arrays-that-could-power-up-to-7-500-homes

September 1, 20231 yr Kind of a shame that a warehouse probably won't reactivate that neat little corner there.

The apartment project behind Dan's Drive In on South High St appears to be winding it's way through the process... It received a zoning variance recently: "One zoning variance, at 45 W. Barthman Ave. just west of High Street, on the city's South Side, will permit a 200-plus-unit apartment complex in a manufacturing district adjacent to active railroad tracks. "This is a site that has seen a lot of challenges, and we're really excited about replacing those challenges with really, really high-quality, affordable housing," said Scott Skinner, vice president of development with Cleveland-based NRP Group. The Barthman Avenue project will serve residents who make between 30% and 80% of the area medium income, with one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom apartments, Skinner said. At 80% AMI, a single person could make up to $55,550 annually to qualify, while a family of four could make a total of up to $79,350 per year." https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/local/2023/09/12/columbus-council-approves-zoning-changes-that-could-clear-way-for-nearly-880-new-housing-units/70800985007/

"Known as the Parsons Avenue Transmission Project, the endeavor is aimed at improving electrical service for area residents and upcoming development, according to an American Electric Power Ohio official. Recker said the project will benefit both residents and a "future AEP customer" coming to the South Side, but he would not name the customer. Two substations, one of them new, will be located just north of a $300 million Google data center being built on a portion of the former Hartman Farm, located on the east of South High Street, south of Rathmell Road, west of Parsons Avenue and north of nearby Scioto Downs. The project will remove five miles of electrical towers running from Marion Road to just south of the Rathmell and Parsons intersection. The towers will be replaced with three miles of modern electrical towers that will run from Interstate 270 to the Route 23 interchange, Recker said." Wonder who the "future AEP customer" that can't be disclosed yet is? Full story here: https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/local/2022/07/23/aep-project-improve-power-capacity-near-future-google-data-center/7797553001/ Crews have began removing the old electrical towers running along Parsons Ave as part of the Parsons Avenue Transmission Project If you're not familiar with the area, these run along Parsons Ave from London-Groveport Rd all the way up to Marion Rd. Crews began tearing them down this week

October 11, 20231 yr I don't think any data centers are going to locate close to Rickenbacker. It seems like land price per acre is actually pretty close for both uses but I think they don't want to take up Intermodal-adjacent space with data centers.

Have logistics operations near an airport that has a lot of cargo planes. Probably a pretty attractive feature to a lot of manufacturing operations.

This is true, also you’re not getting that close to a data center under construction. The next big one in Ohio is supposed to be in the northwestern part of the state.
October 18, 20231 yr Multiple Tenants Lined Up For Renovated Historic Building A Merion Village building with a long history has undergone another transformation. Located at 116 E. Moler St., the 100-year-old building has been renovated and is now fully leased, home to four new tenants in various stages of the opening process: On the second floor, The Well Center for Movement and Dance has been open since July, offering classes and workshops in its new, light-filled space. Jennings Java recently moved its operations to a spot in the back of the building’s first floor, but has plans to open a full-service coffee shop in the corner storefront previously occupied by Bake Me Happy (the gluten-free bakery moved to a new space on Whittier Street last year). Chef Andrew Smith will be opening a new restaurant in Bake Me Happy’s former prep kitchen space. The new concept will be called Isla and is aiming for an early 2024 opening. The balance of the building’s 20,000 square feet has been transformed into a new wedding and event venue called The Century. The space has a capacity to hold 300 people and features an outdoor patio that could be used for wedding ceremonies.
