Entertainment District announced for Rossford

A development group announced, Wednesday, it will build an entertainment district in Rossford and link it to Hollywood Casino. Construction may not begin until late 2017 but the planning has already begun. Developers say three million people visit Hollywood Casino each year but there is not much to do.

Dallas Paul, a broker with NAI Harmon Group, the firm ready to develop 20 acres of land across from the casino, says, "Right now, they come to the casino and leave. Nothing keeps them here."

Wednesday, Paul announced a $60-million hotel with a conference center... a 100-thousand square foot retail shopping area and up to five casual and high end restaurants.

Construction to start on dome in Rossford

Most ceremonial groundbreakings are just that — ceremonial — but with the pace Brant Smith wants his new dome open and operational, the dirt needs to move fast.

“Get to work,” the Maumee Soccer Centre owner told the handful of people, including the mayor of Rossford, who broke ground on the site of the coming 94,300-square-foot Soccer Centre Dome.

The Rossford Casino gets three million visitors a year? I am shocked at those numbers...

It has a terrible location except as a freeway exit. And they also didn't do anything with the waterfront there except build a freaking lot parking on it!

Yea.. what's the deal w that? Why can't they touch the waterfront? I remember hearing talk of bike/walking path thru there, which is atleast a start I guess? There's an article in the blade today about Hollywood Casino numbers down... again... idk, I mean, I'm glad it's there.. provides a few people I know w good paying jobs. We are no longer losing the money to detroit, and atleast it wasn't paid for by tax dollars.. oh, and Hollywood also made upgrades to the Miami st 75 interchange which was part of the deal to go there. *though that interchange will be completely redone again in a few years when they redo the 75 disalle bridge over the maumee. The new parts of the interchange were done just before the casino opened, so not even 10 years old

I kinda hope this doesn't get built because I can't see it being successful. The casino is an island unto itself. I get the logic that there's nothing to do around the casino and that other related businesses could thrive off each other in close proximity........but it won't happen there in that industrial no-man's land over there. Downtown Toledo, of course it would work, but not over on the outskirts of Rossford/East Toledo.

People will just stay in the casino for everything. Nobody's going to walk across Miami St all the way back into this development. The casino isn't designed with pedestrian orientation with the streetfront, so nobodies ever going to walk between the places. They'll be lucky to get a few people eating dinner over there before they get in their car and drive across the street to park in the casino garage.

Goodluck to them but I just don't see it working.

Rossford expected to move forward with economic development plans

The Rossford officials who have been clamoring for years about creating a master plan for economic development may soon get their wish.

City council heard an hour-long presentation last week from Dallas-based O’Brien Architects. Vice President Mick Granlund detailed examples of past mixed-use developments for clients such as Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway and the Dallas Cowboys.

An ordinance will be prepared for the April 23 meeting to enter into an agreement for services. The cost is estimated at just shy of $500,000, although 96 percent of it would be paid with tax-increment financing funds. The remaining portion will come from the general fund.

Construction began in 1999 on an outdoor amphitheater and adjacent hockey arena. Funding dried up, building stopped, and the half-built complex was eventually torn down in 2008.

In 2007, Bass Pro Shops opened in the area. The city expected more development to fill in around the store, only to see the real estate market collapse a year later.

Another new hotel going in at 795 and crossroads.. that makes 5 just in that little cul-de-sac.

Also a new holiday inn is almost complete behind panera off 20/23 in perrysburg, but that just replaces the holiday inn french quarter that will close next month and be demolished by summer
