historic Van Gorder Manor in Willoughby under renovation as a restaurant and B&B. Most recently it was an senior living facility. I guess they kicked all the old people out since they're disposable anyway.

So sad, they’re knocking down a historic corner / a couple buildings in Downtown Massillon … today?

That "M" at the intersection bothers me more than anything else.

So terribly sad … gonna be lost forever.

Somehow Europe has ways of not just demoing buildings.

They take football and their rivalry with Canton McKinley super seriously down there.  CM hired Maple's state championship coach, who wasn't even 30.  He was gone after two years, between the politics and not beating Massilon.

Europe doesn't have the kinds of asbestos remediation and ADA rules we have here.

And the US doesn't have Europe's energy-efficiency standards....

I can't remember the last time someone suggested that Europe had fewer regulations than the US.

Hi Everyone!

This is my first post woooo, pardon me for my newness but I am looking for some input. Also it was great meeting some of you guys at the brewery in December. I have been lurking on this site a little bit on and off since then.

I am about to start an art project where I make miniature models of beautiful architecturally and culturally significant buildings that have been demolished unjustly using garbage/"upcycled materials". Just for fun. But I like the message of making them small and out of thrown away materials because I think it speaks to the way these buildings are thought of and treated. Small and insignificant and disposable when we all know that is not the case.

Could you help me with some names/locations of buildings you think I should check out for this project?

Inspired by the original cleveland playhouse rip. Apologies if this is already a thread out there and if it is can someone help me find it <3

TIA!

Lindsay

This sounds like a fun project! I am going to plug in some locations; let me know if you need to know more specifics. I've included some industrial spaces that have some ornamentation, too.

^I'm not sure about Bailey Park. It may have fell down.

Sweeeeet thank you! this is great, I am going to do some digging. If the end product turns out well maybe I'll be able to post them. Making mini models is fun and I am excited to replicate some cool ohio architecture.

Appreciate the help.

Building once part of popular Dayton-region mall listed on national registry

A building once part of a popular mall in the Dayton region has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The designation provides several benefits, according to officials, including eligibility for federal and state tax credits for rehabilitation and enhanced opportunities for economic development.

The former Sears and Roebuck building at the former Salem Mall in Trotwood was recently listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The list includes districts, sites, buildings, structures and objects that the U.S. government deems worthy of preservation for their historical significance or "great artistic value."

Dayton nonprofit seeking funding to preserve historic downtown home

A Dayton nonprofit is requesting funding to help preserve a historic home in the region.

The Woman’s Club of Dayton Foundation is looking to complete repairs on the Dayton Woman’s Club, located at 225 N. Ludlow St. in downtown Dayton. The Dayton Woman’s Club was built in the 1840s by Robert Steele and is one of the last homes from the 1800s remaining downtown.

The Dayton Woman’s Club is used for various purposes such as educational programs, social events, and organizational retreats and conferences. For the past several years, the Club has hosted the luncheon for the Girl Scouts of Western Ohio “Miss Manners” Badge, which is an event open to all Junior Girl Scouts in the Dayton region that teaches conversational skills, etiquette, and how to make introductions.

213-year old Rider's Inn closed permanently🤯 Hopefully it can be rescued and reopened. I recall when it was operating as Lutz's Inn in the 60's and 70's. Great Sunday brunch. Considering the historic significance of this building I think there would be widespread community resistance to the mere idea of demolition. At least I would hope so!

there's a tiny Jonathan Goldsmith home for sale in Painesville, but I could only find the square footage of the lot mentioned in the listing. This place is really, really small lol.

https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/254-S-State-St-Painesville-OH-44077/34475016_zpid/?

"This Jonathan Goldsmith home was built in 1847, as the right wing of the original Judge Reuben Hitchcock home. The wing was moved in 1890 to it's present location, and additional living space was added, along with more conveniences. This home offers a great deal of charm and history, and has been well cared for by it's current owner. The owner will share more historical information, as well as recent improvements with the new owner's."
