Posted October 19, 20168 yr We already have a thread for OTR-specific before and after photos so I thought I'd start one for the rest of Cincinnati.
October 19, 20168 yr So one of the best aspects of Google Streetview is the ability to go back in time. My favorite spots to show big changes outside of OTR are around UC and the Riverfront. Such as: Before: https://www.google.com/maps/@39.1282948,-84.5162969,3a,75y,266.14h,89.79t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1slBdSKmLOiOPCpqvar0-qkg!2e0!5s20070901T000000!7i3328!8i1664 After: https://www.google.com/maps/@39.1283226,-84.5162886,3a,75y,266.14h,89.79t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sAhHLHVMZ4BE9tQ4r1OzMig!2e0!5s20150701T000000!7i13312!8i6656 And; Before: https://www.google.com/maps/@39.0959824,-84.5080851,3a,75y,267.18h,91.92t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sxoEUvx6owFXaA9TZllcEXA!2e0!7i3328!8i1664 After: https://www.google.com/maps/@39.095967,-84.5080259,3a,75y,267.18h,91.92t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1seyJPtx99tUsOQBbhR6qpsg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656 And; Before: https://www.google.com/maps/@39.0971546,-84.5104679,3a,75y,84.39h,94.35t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s-KxflXvKjxjB-0LMokueTQ!2e0!7i3328!8i1664 After: https://www.google.com/maps/@39.0971522,-84.5104356,3a,75y,80.11h,94.35t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s79PqN25KP2FZWKyBN-kROA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656 Sometimes it's easy to forget just how many major changes have happened in a pretty short period.
October 19, 20168 yr Google Streetview + these old "Street Improvement" photographs from UC's digital archive make for some good comparisons: https://drc.libraries.uc.edu/handle/2374.UC/702780/browse?type=series I used to post a blog a couple years ago with some examples: http://zfein.blogspot.com/2013/10/cincinnati-then-and-now.html
May 14, 20187 yr Hopefully next time, those lots will have disappeared! I still think building a narrow "mall" between 13th and Elliot (or the Reading stub, honestly those buildings aren't great) and then having a bunch of apartments overlooking the new mall would be a good use for those blocks. “To an Ohio resident - wherever he lives - some other part of his state seems unreal.”
May 14, 20187 yr It's funny how even when you can't see individual buildings up close you can tell how much a neighborhood has improved simply by the removal of horrible white vinyl windows. That's really the only obvious change in those images (among a few other key things) but it makes a world of difference in knowing the buildings are properly being taken care of now.
June 5, 20187 yr Cincy's skyline has always had nice balance to it, even as it changes. If we could get a Carew sized building over on the west side of downtown and then some residential development on all those parking lots/garages by the convention center it would be even better. Thanks for posting.
June 5, 20187 yr The new Kroger apartments should be about the same height as 8th and Sycamore is that right? Also, once 4th and Race gets going that should also be about the same height as well? Maybe we see it peek through from this angle behind the Hyatt? Edit: Looks like 8th and Sycamore is 17 stories, Central and Walnut Kroger at 18, and just counting without seeing exact details 4th and Race looks like 17 stories?

Maybe we see it peek through from this angle behind the Hyatt? The new Kroger will be 206 ft. tall. 4th and Race is 15 stories tall now. Should be just under the height of 8th and Sycamore. “All truly great thoughts are conceived while walking.” -Friedrich Nietzsche
June 5, 20187 yr ^Ah OK, I thought the Kroger one would be about 250 feet, still it is going to add so much to that area, I'm really excited about it and having it fill in that massive parking lot.

If so, I think you'll be able to just see the top to the left of the Hyatt. You can see the Reserve (SW corner of 4th and Race) to the left of the Hyatt now. The new 4th and Race will be in front of that, but a bit shorter.
April 21, 20205 yr Still not enough parking spaces for Auditor Rhodes. “To an Ohio resident - wherever he lives - some other part of his state seems unreal.”
June 6, 20205 yr I'm curious what's going to replace the "Macy's" sign. It will have a pretty big impact on the skyline from the north.

June 6, 20205 yr ...they had the temerity to top the Fountain Square Christmas tree with the Macy's star.

June 12, 20205 yr Wow, I didn't realize the stadium was that far along. “To an Ohio resident - wherever he lives - some other part of his state seems unreal.”
May 10, 20223 yr Author Another annual panorama from Bellevue Hill Park. Here's 2016 (top) vs. 2022 (bottom): The dang trees are blocking most of OTR now...
May 10, 20223 yr I looks more deconstructive. Millennium gone, Macy's sign gone, Carew in foreclosure, Fifth Third's terrible white top, and stupid trees. Come on color-changing building...give us some green! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
May 10, 20223 yr I was nervous that the Millennium being gone would shrink the skyline, but I completely forgot about it when looking at the 2022 image. Guess that answers that question whether or not to worry about that haha.

Come on color-changing building...give us some green! Yeah, the biggest change from 2021 to 2022 is the loss of the Millennium. You can also now see a sliver of the Taylor-Southgate Bridge due to the demolition of the Woodford Building at Lytle Park. The Macy's logo has been removed from their former HQ, and I also just noticed that Fifth Third removed the green swooshes on the left and right sides of their logo. The only major signs of new construction are the new tower cranes at Ovation.
May 10, 20223 yr If they built something mid-sized at the Jean Robert Table building site it would show up in this picture www.cincinnatiideas.com
June 16, 20222 yr Author If these trees keep growing, I'm not going to be able to do this much longer.
