I wrote up a blog post last week (https://tomhorsman.wordpress.com/2017/01/09/the-symbol-of-the-city-the-cleveland-flag/) about the flag of the City of Cleveland that looked back at its history as well as argued that we should look at creating a new flag design. It has long bothered me that Cleveland's flag is not more prominent, and I think its bad design is part of the reason why (yes, I've thought this long before Roman Mars gave his famous TED talk on city flags http://99percentinvisible.org/article/vexillology-revisited-fixing-worst-civic-flag-designs-america/). As you can see below, you can barely make out any of the symbols on the flag when it is flying in the distance and it just looks like a backwards French flag.

I would be curious to hear your thoughts. Some people might think such an endeavor is pointless or dumb, but I really do think it is worthy of pursuing. There is a Facebook group out there that I would encourage you to join if you are interested (it wasn't created by me): https://www.facebook.com/groups/812949152148074/

^ Cool idea. I think Ohio City has a great flag. It's definitely a source and representation of civic pride.

Agreed.

Chicago sets the standard for city flags, much like Ohio does for states.

No flag should have words on it IMO.

I agree, I like the Ohio City flag, and you see it all over the neighborhood. I love how a lot of private homes fly it too. I've only ever once seen a Cleveland flag being flown at someone's residence.

Cleveland's flag is pretty lame. It looks like Italy's, but with American colors. I honestly don't mind the words and crest, I just think that outside of the words and crest, the flag design is painfully unoriginal.

I wonder what Sheldon Cooper would say about it.

I do like the crest in the middle, and I think it should be the design for the city's seal, but it shouldn't be on the flag. You can't tell what any of the symbols are when it's flying, and words in general don't do well on flags.

If I'm remembering correctly, OC Inc sends them out whenever someone moves into the neighborhood. That's certainly a very effective way to get people to fly it
