Hey everyone, I am new to the forum although I've been lingering around here for months.  I wanted my first post to be something monumentally huge, but I figured I would just start with a photo tour of Cleveland.  I took these shots this afternoon and this is actually my first attempt to ever do any sort of photography minus pictures of drunk girls at frat parties and other general pleasantries.  So without further ado here are my crappy pictures from a crappy digital camera of a beautiful city.

No personality, just buildings...hopefully nobody was bored along the way.  :)

I wasn't bored! Cool stuff, I like your streetscape views especially.

Welcome to the forum!

Very nice!  I love the perspectives you give - the depth of the roads and such, with the walls receeding and the focus of the shot way in the background - makes for very interesting pictures.

My favorite shot is this one:

...that multiple-layers-of-buildings effect...Grasscat does that all the time in his tours, and I love that look...that and the first one with that statue in the park at E 3rd - dude just standing straight up into the sky...

Thanks for starting off with a bang!  Very nicely done!

Well done!  And welcome to the forum!  I hope this is a sign of many good posts to come.

Lovely! Thank you, and welcome.

For someone who just graduated from photographing drunk girls at frat parties, I think you've got a very good eye for architecture. This looks like one of them (and a puker to boot!).... :-D

Now, I say this all the time with other photographers (so don't take it personally) -- it looks like we had another neutron bomb attack downtown because it's awfully devoid of people! Also, I love photos that take a couple seconds to discern objects. Thus, this is my favorite photo...

Keep 'em coming and welcome to the forum!

Nice phote tour Peter Griffin.     One question, where is Stewie???

Thanks for the tour, and welcome aboard!

one word: whimsical

Welcome!

Your photos suck! Go back to undercover work at frat parties.  :jo::-D

Seriously, your work is no worse than any of ours here.  I mean you know how to size up a building and you know how to make the shutter open and close.

Visualizing is half the battle in taking photographs (mechanically producing our visualizations can a different matter sometimes)  and you have that down.

So, take more photos.

Welcome!

Hey everybody, thanks for the warm welcome!  I'm glad you all enjoyed the pictures and I'm sure I'll go out and get some more on a non-Sunday afternoon.  I kinda liked taking post-neutron bomb pictures though because I felt like I had the city to myself.  Sometimes that's good, sometimes that's bad but it worked out in the end.  And now the obligatory Family Guy quote..."What do you want me to do? Whack a guy? Off a guy? Whack off a guy? 'Cuz I'm married."

Peter Griffin, welcome to Urban Ohio.  Nice work.

I can appreciate the "city to yourself'" it is the silver lining to the downtown being so quiet on non summer Sundays. I remember an Indian summer Sunday (last November!) where we sailed on bikes from w25th through green lights to the main library for browsing  to a steaming bowl of pho at Pho Hoa in China Town. Then a nice ride back over the Superior Bridge for a peek at barges.  Yes I would like to see more people but it is nice to find tranquility and beauty all for yourself (where is everyone anyway, watching football, trolling the mall??)

I really enjoy the Superior stretch of the photo tour - When I walk between Public Square and Ninth, I find my self oblivious to anything but the buildings. I think I'm mesmorized by the steady march of bldgs with relative cornice lines and heights with different representatives of each design 'period'. I think that the collection of neoclassical buildings in that single stretch is among the best in any American city.

Great Job! Can't wait to see the next photo tour!

Photos look good...I think a warmer day would have helped to add life to your photos, as was mentioned earlier.  I too often times leave people out of my pics.  This could be an interesting idea...incorporating people into photos :|  Keep up the good work...and WELCOME :-D

^ Ain't she a beauty.  Welcome to the forum PeterGriffin!  Great pics of the Land of Cleves.

Cleveland is a great city to photograph - these are super!

Welcome to the forum, and thanks for the phototour- especially the shot of the Windsor Block.  I live on East Fourth, but had never noticed the advertisements on that building's back wall.  I had to stop and take a look at them today- your photo really brought them out because they look fainter in person.

I would love to live on E. 4th, but as of now I'm stuck living in Berea (which by suburban standards is actually really nice).  Again, I'm glad everyone is enjoying the photos since I truly feel that Cleveland is one of the most architecturally beautiful cities in the country.

What a nice collection - I am envious of the pictures and the streets!  I am impressed by the building density.  Thank you!

Great photos, and welcome to the forum!! I love the amount of density in your pics! Oh, and feel free to post some pics of drunk sorority girls!  :-D
