So far, digging the new chat feature. Is this a test, or will it stay (as long as it functions properly)?

its a nice feature, but can you turn it on and off?

it annoying because aside from the people popping on and off constantly giving me a pokemon seizure it blocks the bottom right corner of the screen out.

We're going to do a trial run for now.  I know the biggest issue will be those who do not wish to use it at all.  It is working very well so far, I will tweak it a bit in the coming days.

You can go invisible and/or turn off the popup notifications

Edit:  Alternatively, if you wish to not use the chat at all I can create a "no chat" group and disable it for the entire group.

The "popup notifications" setting doesn't seem to remember. If I turn off the notifications, then navigate to a new page, it resets to turn the notifications back on. That's unacceptable. It should be saved to the user's profile so that it remembers, even if you log in on a separate device.

It keeps the settings for me if I navigate to a different page or exit out of my browser completely.

*edit - looks like it's storing in cookies.  I delete temp storage stuff on browser close so the setting would have to be set each time.

I think it's a cool feature, but I do agree with jwulsin[/member] in that it should be opt-in instead of opt-out and it should store the settings in the user's profile not tied to any local storage.  I think the easiest way is to change the default to off for sound and popups.

I think certain users should not have the choice to opt-out so they can keep their trolling to a psuedo-pm state

Update - I cleared my browser cache, logged out, logged back in...  and now I'm seeing more reliable/expected behavior. It has saved my settings from session to session. So, now I'm happy :)

I hate happiness.

I’ve added a chat option to those who wish to use it. It’s located in the “Chatbox” tab in the main menu bar.

I was in New York for the past few days reading UO on an iPad using Safari as a guest.  Oddly the topic Current Events did not show up under Safari.  Is this a matter of settings or because I wasn't logged in?

This is by design.  The CE section is a very touchy section.  So much so, we have some members who are not allowed to access it.  Therefore, it's set up so it is also unavailable to guests. We felt this is the only way it can remain on the forum.

Thanks, richN. I read some of CE but rarely post.
