The Troy-based principal of Four Sons Development is putting $1.25 million into renovating the historic bank building at 8 S. Market St. near the square, converting a nearly century-old structure into the city’s newest event venue. But the work will do justice to the building, he says. To be called Lock Box 290, the venue is about three-fourths of the way complete, Westfall said. “It’s just breathtakingly beautiful,” Westfall said of the Art Deco building, whose 42-foot ceilings are adorned with hand-painted panels and grand arches. An innovation center located in the old Hobart Brothers plant could be Troy's next point for development, according to the recommendations from the Troy Downtown Riverfront Strategic Development Plan. The plan, led by MKSK, provides investment recommendations for the downtown Troy area and its riverfront for the next five to 10 years. The vision is to transform the old Hobart Brothers plant into an innovation center, which includes an artist in residency program giving local entrepreneurs the ability to use this space to grow their business. Some of the concepts for the center play into a broader vision for the area, which could feature a large ecosystem comprised of small retail spaces, a brewery, shared working spaces, a media and design center, coffee shop and more. The project totals $8.6 million and consists of multiple quality of life improvements. The quality of life improvements for the Great Miami River Recreation Connectivity Project include the removal of the low head dam, restoring an oxbow for wildlife that was removed when the low head dam was installed, installing new multi-use recreational trail networks and a river access area for recreational paddlers that will connect the river and the Great Miami River Recreational Trail to downtown Troy and Herrlinger Park. May 17, 20232 yr Park improvement project enters new phases after years of delay A local municipality has authorized a $2.6 million contract to further the second phase of a development project. With this award, the project is moving forward after being delayed for several years. The Piqua City Commission recently authorized a $2.6 million contract to Englewood-based ATCS Inc. for the construction of phase II of the Lock Nine Park improvements. Work will include constructing a trail connection to Main Street, terracing the levee overlooking the riverway and creating a performance pavilion and community lawn. The final construction phase is anticipated to be presented to the City Commission for approval this year. The final phase will include restoring the lock walls, installing a water feature, planting tree groves and other landscape improvements. When completed, Lock Nine Park will be a hub for outdoor recreation, leisure and community gatherings. April 1, 20241 yr Restoration of former courthouse building in Troy pushes ahead The restoration work on the IOOF/Old Courthouse building in Troy is moving at full speed. The building is now on track to have the necessary repairs finished in time for the court to allow the rest of the work to continue, reports our news partners at Dayton 24/7 Now. One year ago this month, the former owner began the process of demolishing the building in the middle of the night. At the time, the owner did not have the correct permits from the city to allow the demolition. The city of Troy has recently announced it has several plans it’s putting in place to modernize and update many aspects of its downtown area.
