Quick question for the construction experts....if you look at the Lumens web cam, it looks like they are done drilling the caissons?  Everything is cleared out?

Not sure what you are asking.

Here's a shot from Tuesday from the 26th floor of 1111 Superior ... amazing how different it appears without the crane. I keep doing double takes, lol.

Whats the next step?

Whats the next step?

If the shoring is done, then they'll move onto excavation for foundations including the building core and tower crane foundation - which may be incorporated into a stair, elevator or a ventilation shaft. Then they'll move on to underground MEPS work and other underground utilities. Then steel.

^ I believe that this will be reinforced concrete.

Thanks for the update!!

Just got noticed of street closures around playhouse square...looks like some exciting events coming up at the lumen!

  • For the October 4-7, 6 ton crane installation, crosswalks will remain open at E.14th and E.17th.
  • For the October 22 mat pour, the Euclid crosswalk at Starbucks will have a “Sidewalk Closed” sign on it.  Pedestrians can cross E.17th, then cross Euclid on the west side of the intersection.

awesome news thank you

6 ton crane is relatively small, correct?

The tower crane foundation appears to have been laid.

Yep, looks like crane foundations. Just got done watching the full timelapse of excavation, looks like they have 9 pretty large sunk foundations in the soil.

"6 tons" refers to what the crane is capable of lifting, not the weight of the crane itself. It can be any size though; here's hoping it'll be a tower crane. :)

Building from the center, LOVE IT

Maybe the center of the site, but isn't the tower portion going to be right up against 17th and Euclid? With the garage built to the west and south of the site (bottom of the photo). That would mean the tower crane will be attached to an outside anchor point not in the middle.

Yes, I think that's the point where the tower meets the garage. So the tower crane will likely be attached to the west side of the skyscraper.

Cool photo. Those parking garages sure do come in handy for vantage points! :)

Has the 10 million county loan been approved? Since you see the crane you would think so.

But there was no announcement and this loan has been floating around for a couple of months.

Up thread we thought it was 6 tons. 600 tons is significantly larger. Haha!

Six tons is its lifting capacity. If it's not a typo, the 600 tons may refer to how much the tower and crane will weigh.

The tower crane is now attached to the shaft.

Annnnd that's probably the last we'll see of the actual crane from this webcam angle.

Any speculation if the garage or the building will rise first?

So why don't you want us to like your photos, @MayDay?

And liked!

It's hard to gauge depth, but it looks like the tower crane won't be able to turn toward the Hanna Building or else it would hit it -- until it grows taller than the Hanna Building. Probably no big deal anyway since the garage will be on that side of the parcel and could be constructed with a smaller mobile crane.

I wonder if it'll jump again before the Beacon crane comes down so we have two in the skyline.

Edited by Mendo

That should jump it just higher than any building in front of it. And as far as I know There's plenty of work still needed to be done involving the crane on the Beacon. They still need the cladding done, they need the AC and pump units up top, and they still need glass which is in progress as we speak actually.

Two cranes- nice ?

Is it me or are the pictures showing in a much higher quality after the site update? Is the new site more capable of displaying larger file sizes, which means less compressed images?

You are now able to resize images inside the text box as they appear, maybe they seem better in quality as they were edited so they could be a manageable size. Also with the new update Twitter Tweets are posted and displayed in full.

I see what you did there...

I almost took that same exact picture today!!!  Well Done!!!
