to me it looks like those horizontal stripes near the top of the building is just the sun hitting the floor plates just right...  the building is completely glass after all...

Ok, i had to run over and take a look.  The aluminum cladding  was removed.  Looks like they have to re-install it.

Great creative shot !  It does remind me of Boston with the combination of a modern blue high rise contrasted by historical architecture. I love seeing the new rising in Cleveland side by side with the restoration and repurposing of so many previously neglected wonderful old buildings downtown. 

Nice winter time view there! I'd like to see how much is visible from there when the leaves come in! Maybe another pic in a few months for us st the same spot??    Good catch! Boston or central park!

For comparison, here is a picture I took in Boston last Spring of a new tower that looks quite similar to Lumen. 

 

The Pierce!!!! I stayed there last fall!!  And that was my first thought!!

As of today, not much different from the above picture, just the vertical slats are installed the whole length of the garage.

Just reserved our unit today.  Cannot wait to move in!

As I recall the South and East sides of the building were supposed to have these verticle stripes; the North and West sides were not.

Definitely better than looking at a garage, ... I like that the entire thing aside from the entrances will be mostly hidden but very curious to see how this will look at night, with the proposed "projection" system

I really like how it looks like a curtain. Great touch for the theater district. Also curious how the night time projections will look on it though.

I would guess this is not projection, rather some kind of low-res LED curtaining.

Here’s a render with no projection. 

That projection screen is going to really accent the theatrical streetscape of Playhouse Square and bring a touch of Broadway to the country’s second largest performing arts center. Really looking forward to seeing it it lit up. 

^ If done similar to screens on garage pedestals in Miami, there's no projection.  It would be a blank slate that can accommodate massive, and I do mean massive, canvas posters of upcoming events or commercial advertisements.

Anything that has been written about the garage facade calls it a "screen for projection of videos and upcoming shows"  Hopefully that is still the case.

I may be in the minority but Playhouse Square is already super well-lit 24/7. The idea of an electronic projection screen the size of what's depicted for the Lumen makes my head (and eyes) hurt. Blue light pollution (e.g. from giant white backgrounds at night with no filter) is a real problem for urban areas (i.e. messes with our circadian rhythms). On a personal level, I'd consider this a negative for PHS, given my personal distaste for what Times Square feels like at night (tacky and physically uncomfortable). For example, you can also see white background projections from a screen by the Q for miles when there's a white background. I think it pollutes the greater ambiance of town. But again, I'm probably in the minority.

^ The more light the better. Colors, scrolling text etc. Love it. And while I'm at it let's keep Christmas lights up through Feb. Call them winter lights to make it more palatable if necessary. These northern climes benefit from winter light IMO.

Yeah I just think there should be an ordinance. If our computer screens and phones can accommodate blue light filters at night, for health reasons, electronic billboards should be held to that standard when it comes to the commons.

Good luck with that! Seems like all the high pressure sodium street lights are being replaced with with the higher temperature lights, everywhere. I think its because people think it looks better ? (most likely from some deep human condition)

Which is good overall, but the blue light is coming with the swap it seems like. I feel like there is a good middle ground in cities between having colorful, warm  light  and just overly bright displays. We'll see how the Lumnn board turns out

I don't think it's an LED screen...First, that'd be very costly, and second, it'd be so exposed to the interior of the garage I don't see it being a viable option. When I first saw the rendering, I assumed it was a space for large promotional banners like the Wicked promo rendering.

 

I do think it'd be great for a projection, although I'd be curious how the projection would look from an angle considering the ridges of the curtain. If it was a projection they could project very cool graphics onto it in addition to promos. You'd also be able to control the brightness as to not have it be super bright during certain parts of the day.

@ASPhotoman Those aren’t actual ridges; they are using different colors/shades to make it LOOK like the ripples of a stage curtain. There’s only a slight difference in physical depth between the panels. Check it out in @mack34’s great pix from a couple days ago. I think they would be able to make projections look decent on that surface. 

I regret that I wasn’t able to snap any pix, but the curtain is over halfway complete as of tonight. And once the top/mechanical floor is finished being clad, the interior completed, and apartment units complement the night sky with an array of lights (hopefully) later this year, the Lumen will be fully realized.

The look of the curtain is very effective.  Creative touch and whether it’s a big banner or a projection of one form or another, it’s gonna be great..

Loving the textured reflection on the neighboring building. Looks like water.

It looks nice in person, so far so good.  It would be nice if some of our other garages like those on Superior/Chester/Vincent that look like lifeless bunkers could be updated with cladding like this.

Will the panels have the exposed spacing or will those be filled in? The panels looked to be installed with no spacing as @Boomerang_Brian photos showed.

Maybe in the middle of fixing something.  Earlier photo shows them filled in.

This building really freshens up the Cleveland skyline look and feel.  As much as we love the old refurbished architecture, Cleveland needs a few more of these.  

Really glad the city pushed to have storefronts in the bottom of that garage. They may be tiny but they'll add life to that side of the street and hopefully help end the pedestrian dropoff between PHQ and CSU.
