October 2, 20195 yr Even though it's twice the height, the design similarity is amazing; Skyline Tower in Queens, NY Edited October 2, 20195 yr by Frmr CLEder
October 3, 20195 yr Skyline Tower appears to have a 2-3 story lighted section at the top, possibly where mechanicals are enclosed. That would be very cool for the top of the Lumen - but looking at the renderings Im wondering how much of that top floor is a high ceiling pent house - the balconies seem to be located between floors 6 and 33, at least on the eastern side. Anyone who knows for sure, please enlighten me!

October 3, 20195 yr HGTV and its California effect has set interior design back at least 75 years. Its as if California is all knowing and its design is being pushed on all of us flyover bumpkins! At least the ones that watch that stuff on TV. Hardly people that are interested in renting in the Lumen. But it is cheaper which makes it the darling of all developers, and is becoming the ONLY thing available. I should go into business selling “retrofit wall systems” to sell to people that are bored silly with open floor plans!

Technically wouldn't it be easier to rework an already open floorplan than make a handful of unit designs hoping that prospective tenants will like them? Maybe this idea makes more sense with condos, but for me, I'd rather customize my space to my liking than some interior designer's dream (fwiw I'm a 30yo YP, might be a generational thing?).

To when we hid kitchens in the back of the house, and bathrooms just had tiny pedestal sinks? No thanks. I love open. Love big kitchens. They make for a great social and entertaining environment. Big bathrooms, double sinks. All of it. Keep it coming! ?

I'm 52 and I agree with you. But not everyone is creative in terms of being able to figure out how to subdivide a living space with furniture or removable walls. And some people value their privacy so much that they don't want to hear (let alone see) what their cohabitinants are doing. October 4, 20195 yr Because of its placement and surrounding buildings, from the inner belt, the Lumen appears to be one of the larger buildings downtown.
October 4, 20195 yr Without a doubt, the Hilton and the Lumen will be two of the most attractive and significant additions to the Cleveland skyline this decade. Edited October 4, 20195 yr by Frmr CLEder
October 4, 20195 yr Four downtown towers built in less than a decade sure beats 1992-2011 when only one tower was built. Hopefully the 2020s will beat the 2010s. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
October 4, 20195 yr With skys like this, I hope there's more reflective glass and less brick and mortar to brighten things up.
October 5, 20195 yr Early morning walk. What this building is/will do to playhouse square is awesome. And it’s 7am on Saturday KJP, so no traffic lol!!
October 5, 20195 yr Amazing morning color! The second shot is my favorite. If it wasn't for the morning light, the traffic looks like it does most of the day, save for weekend evenings. October 5, 20195 yr Random but you would think they would replace the burned out bulbs on those arches...
October 5, 20195 yr From your last pic in particular, it really does - together with the Keith Building - create a lovely framing of Playhouse Square. I'm looking forward to see it complete with lights on the garage portion to complement the lights from the theaters across the street.
October 5, 20195 yr Golden hour just blows every color in PHS out of the water, I love driving through there in the evenings however it will be a while till I'll actually be on leave to see the finished project. I love it already.

I have to say, you’re right about the traffic - I’m amazed by how little there is in any downtown pic, save a game or special event. At almost any hour/day. But the Lumen looks fantastic! I want another one!
October 6, 20195 yr Sorry for all of those naysayers, but I absolutely love reflective-glass curtain walls. This and the Hilton, are real beauties. They brighten up and add reflective energy to the city. Any word or rumors on the street-level retail to be included? I would hope that if Detroit can attract notable retail on pedestrian-unfriendly stretches of Woodward Ave, Cleveland should be able to attract it on Euclid Ave.

Key Tower and Marriott next door were in 1991. I couldn’t remember what @KJP was referring too between 1991 and 2011 so I looked it up - the building now known as Fifth/Third was built in 1992. That was the tail end of a respectable string of towers in the 80s and early 90s. The only tower in the 1993-2011 range was the Stokes Federal Courthouse (and its rail RoW destroying footprint, ugh) in 2002. When is the last time I-71 turned a profit?
October 6, 20195 yr I counted BancOne/FifthThird as completed in 1991. But whatever. I was thinking of the Stokes Courthouse Tower as the only downtown tower built 1991/2-2011. October 6, 20195 yr Wow.. love it! I really hope this fills up fast compelling Playhouse Square Foundation to commence it’s second act ? (you see what I did there).
October 6, 20195 yr How much taller will The Lumen Tower be than the Keith Building?? I've seen several different heights for both buildings. Including The Lumen being 396' tall with Antenna spire and the rooftop being 337' tall. BUT I don't remember seeing a Antenna spire in any of the renderings. The Keith Building as being 272' tall. What's up?? Edited October 6, 20195 yr by Larry1962
October 7, 20195 yr Transformative! My favorite new Cleveland building of the century thus far - and I like the Hilton, Beacon and EY tower -along with the courthouse tower which has become one of the marquis buildings due to its location. These buildings are all symbols of Cleveland’s progress but the Lumen is the most surprising and it’s context in playhouse square puts it front and center in extending downtown and pushing our skyline east.

It doesn't really extend the skyline east if you include both Rhodes and Fenn Tower which are officially withing the downtown district boundary.

Agree and disagree - Looking from angles such as 490 Bridge and Tremont - the Rhodes Tower looks like an afterthought to downtown, like a tower that is kind of sort of involved in the skyline. Lumen extends a hand to Rhodes Tower, if you will, that will make it look more a part of downtown instead of on an island
October 10, 20195 yr Since at least the 70's, Rhodes and Fenn Towers have been kinda sitting in the middle of nowhere; not really a part of downtown but also not really good fits in the areas immediately south and east of downtown. It's good to see them get some company and a fabulous addition at that!
October 10, 20195 yr Large beams just fell from the crane. Doesnt appear to be any injuries . They fell from at least 20 stories up, maybe more. Edited October 10, 20195 yr by tj111
October 10, 20195 yr WOAH! I hope everyone is okay. That's terrifying. Currently fire trucks and ambulances heading down Euclid, I hope it's just a precaution
October 10, 20195 yr The whole keith building shook, lots of screaming from the street level, but it seems like no ambulances or panic now that it's over. There's a few beams sticking out of the ground if you look closely in that picture, as well as the one that hit the garage. Edited October 10, 20195 yr by tj111
October 10, 20195 yr I was reviewing the Lumen time lapse webcam just five minutes ago on my lunch break. Now it seems to be offline.
October 10, 20195 yr Glad it doesn't seem like anyone's been hurt. I'm listening to the CFD/EMS scanner and it doesn't seem like they're panicked by any means (I'll edit this if anything changes). Granted NEO_Scan is probably everyone's best bet... 1.19PM- They're doing a headcount on site, holding off on having construction workers go in to get keys 1.20PM- Bigshot: Four large objects, one hit parking garage, assess for trapped workers, once that's completed, open euclid ave and turn the scene over. 1:26PM- All people accounted for, turning the scene over to CPD. October 10, 20195 yr @tj111 Hi TJ, I work at 19 News. Can we please use your photo of the garage damage on air and online? You can email us at [email protected] with the name you would like us to use as the source. Thank you!
October 10, 20195 yr View from Euclid Ave. Street was closed off to vehicular traffic by police. North side sidewalk was open. News helicopters overhead. Very chaotic scene. October 10, 20195 yr @mack34 has some pretty good photos from the construction site. He posted them on Facebook. He said he was having lunch across the street. Someone else wrote in response to his photos that "3 beams fall 24 story’s after cables snap. Goes through 1 level of parking garage floor." October 10, 20195 yr It was crazy!!!! Thats the loudest boom I've heard in awhile. We thought a bomb went off. I'll bet the beams fell about 200'......Only damage was to the floor supports. Me thinks that might be shut down for awhile...I'll post pics in a bit
October 10, 20195 yr Wow. So late in the project. These had to be some of the last steel beams, right?
