No tears of mine will stain that pavement. I wave goodbye to that lot with a cake-eating smile.

Here's a shot from Tuesday from the 26th floor of 1111 Superior ... amazing how different it appears without the crane. I keep doing double takes, lol.

Rip Parking lot... We F***ing hate your existence everywhere...

Where am I gonna paaaaaark

The same place

I will tell you guys as much as I love all the construction I am sick to death of the lane closures on Euclid. You have to cross the street at The Beacon and then back to the other side when you get to the Athletic Club. Looks like a third crossing is now happening.

Ok, enough raining on the parade, good riddance parking lot.

I'll go ahead & eat crow now.  I never felt like this project would happen.  Still can't believe it will be built.  Big picture it seems like it came together pretty quickly

Just believe :-)

I'm in the same boat.  I am glad to be wrong.

Better hope the financing paperwork was all signed by this weekend.  The impending trade war could set off another recession!

Haha, I feel your pain, but down here in Columbus.  I walk through the Short North to get to my office and its a zigzagged mess the entire way, and changing literally every other day.  I will say though, the finished product is well worth it.  I'll take growing pains in any city, so long as its progress haha

Guys, just heard (what I think) is an amazing rumor about the retail.............. If anyone else has heard anything about the identity of the lessor, shoot me a DM. I'll drop this bomb shortly once I make sure my friend wasn't drunk when he heard it - which is always a possibility

^ DO TELL US!!! We won't get mad and ban you if it isn't true.  At least we probably won't.  ;D

Well... he confirmed he wasn't intoxicated... But he heard from an associate of his that the idea of opening a flagship Disney Store on the street is being explored.

I, for one, think this is a phenomenal idea. I know it isn't as sexy as some assume, but if this rumor has any teeth I think that's a great spot for it.

Is it Shake Shack?

Pretty cool for a retail space that was an afterthought and will only exist because of some prodding by city of Cleveland.

That would e a great area for it......but isn't the actual retail space pretty small?  They were only giving up one row of parking for it.

^ That's my thought as well.  Not enough square footage was designed into the ground floor retail for something as large / prominent as a Disney Store.  Can anyone else comment on actual size vs needed size?

Here are the dimensions

I wonder if rather than a full-on Disney Store, it won't be some sort of spin off that sells Broadway-related merchandise full time?  It would make sense for PHS to have a presence there maybe selling tickets and merchandise from current and past shows.

The developer indicated that the space for retail could be expanded in the future.  It would be a lot cheaper to do it now - and a Disney offer could likely make that happen.

^To that point, since I agree, 1900 is small for a Disney store... does anyone know the height dimensions? 2 levels could work.

The Disney Store wiki page has some insight. It sounds like their typical store is around 3500 square feet. The JCPenney format could work though, 750-1100 square feet:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disney_Store

On September 21, 2012, Disney announced a partnership with J.C. Penney (JCP) to open a Disney department with 750-to-1,100 square feet in about 520 Penney locations.[2] JCP's online version opened on September 6 and the store within a store locations opened on October 4.[51]

Disney Store build a flagship store in Chicago on the Magnificent Mile at 717 N. Michigan Avenue with 7,000 square feet at ground floor, twice a standard store's footprint, with Saks Fifth Avenue men's store taking the remainder of the ground floor plus the second and third floor.

Just a few minutes ago I noticed workers taking down the fencing that was surrounding the parking lot

While I certainly don't want to jump back in my dirty Shake Shack water (Pinecrest)  - and this isn't the big deal/Disney-worthy news being rumored, it is burgerish: when DMK Burger, the Chicago chain, announced likely, new CLE locations as few weeks ago, "17th and Euclid" was one of them... So may be a new eatery destined for PHS whether in this new building or an existing one.

^Odds are, Disney Store isn't what will  end up in there. But these dimensions are interesting to consider

It's no secret that Playhouse Square (Gina Vernaci, who heads the Broadway Series) and Disney Theatricals (Thomas Schumacher, who oversees their Broadway shows) are strong partners - and CLE is rewarded with favorable, early tour stops for Disney shows (like Mary Poppins in their Summer sweet spot for 4-5 weeks several years ago) .. However, despite their huge (often #1 in US) subscription base at PHS (45,000 is the most recent number) - CLE keeps getting trumped with regards to new show pre-Broadway tryouts launching here - a big money maker and prestige driver (Denver premiered Frozen last year.. and had The Little Mermaid premiere prior, etc.. Toronto had the pre-Bway Aladdin, etc...)

So, with more Disney stage shows in the works, and lucrative arrangements to be made for them, it's possible that other factors, beyond just retail, could be at play here if a Disney Store is rumored. That could be to try and curry favor, via PHS' support of a store, or to plan for future theatrical engagements and their spinoff retail sales. Who knows? But, what is true is that Disney and PHS are well known to each other.

Disney Store might do better in the arcade in the Keith building.

Workers are removing the fencing around the parking lot at E 17th and Euclid. I’m assuming this is prepping for the groundbreaking of the new @playhousesquare tower? https://t.co/JRY4aO3Wvd

Awesomeness.

Tower City had Disney and Warner Bros stores until the mid or late 90s.  It would be great to see that kind of thing downtown again.

^I had forgotten about the Disney Store at Tower City. That was a pretty big one if I remember correctly.

There are few things more beautiful than watching the progress of removing a surface parking lot from downtown. The parking sign is coming down today.

Things are starting to happen #AWESOME

GREAT!!!

Site construction to begin in the first or second full week of April, from what I hear.

Fantastic, exciting!  I was thinking that the top floor would've been an awesome place for a restaurant. This tower is really going to make a statement and mark the eastern entrance to a growing downtown.

How about a rooftop bar?

This tower will definitely make a statement in our skyline

I actually think that would be better served on the Keith Building

Nah, the west side of PHS tower would be outstanding. Eating dinner with most of downtown's skyline in the foreground and the sunset in the background would be the ultimate romantic dining spot.

That's not even tall enough to see over the Halle Building.

"Dinner and a show"... (on a magical level).  if we're gonna indulge - I like my idea of the restaurant - on the top of the PHS tower ( And, yes KJP, on the west side of the building)  - but with the option for a drink after the show back up on the "34th" floor

Saw a bulletin that East 17th between Brownell Court and Euclid is closed tonight. I presume this is for the staging of construction crews. So it looks like I got these last pics of the parking lot just in time, earlier today....

They have also, over the weekend, taken down the fixed traffic lights at 17th and Euclid and put up a temporary thing hanging from a cable stretched diagonally across the intersection.

Oh, I was wondering what they were doing. They were working on that around 12pm today.

I know this is a little farfetched, but don't you guys think construction began before funding was closed because of the NuCLEus deal in the oversight committee?

Don't understand. Explain. The PHS tower isn't catalytic enough to be eligible for the catalytic tax credit Stark wants.

Yeeaaaah thought that was a stupid question. I just thought that since PHST was over 20 stories it could get some sort of funding after the bill is passed. Bet regardless this project was mainly funded privately which doesnt happen very often, but I'm just wondering where they got the rest of the funding from if not would it be provided on behalf of House Bill 469...
