Has anyone on UO worked in the Caxton Building on Huron road? My company is interested in space there and I would be curious to hear the thoughts of people who have worked there or are familiar with it.

 

I don't have specific questions or concerns just curious to hear about maintenance issues, the landlord etc.

I have not, but my cousin's financial advisory business is there and has been for over 15 years. As far as I know they are happy.

^Haven't been there in years, but I used to deal with a print broker in the building. Roomy and high ceilings is my memory. At the time it was all printers, binders, and brokers; hence the name. William Caxton introduced the printing press to England in the late 1400's.

I used to work there a little while back. I loved it. The building is in a great location and has a lot of character. I parked in the underground garage which was convenient. It's crowded and you have to leave your keys in your car in case the attendants have to move it, but you never had to worry about anyone breaking in.

Worked there 20 years ago - first job in downtown Cleveland with an agency specializing in help wanted ads for newspapers :-o . I'm sure the spaces have been redone but the building has a ton of character, lots of light with the large windows and as it was built to hold printing presses, it feels *solid*. The location was mostly a blessing and infrequently a curse - convenient to everything, but getting out during big events could be a headache; of course, this was well before telecommuting was common.

Does the Commercial Survey Company still operate there? They print those "red book" street atlases of Cuyahoga and other counties in NE Ohio. As a young kid I was way into maps and cartography, and I would always beg my dad to take me there whenever we were anywhere near downtown. The store was the only place I knew of that sold those big poster-sized topographical maps from the USGS.

 

I always liked the front doorway to the Caxton. Reminds me of an old cathedral.
