Posted July 12, 20177 yr I know there's some cranes missing in this count. Does Philly really have zero cranes right now? Cleveland has only one right now, over One University Circle, with more coming. I'm sure Columbus and Cincy have cranes up, too..... July 12, 20177 yr Strange thead. But i like it!! I think there's at least 3 crane's in Akron. Stark tech, Akron Children's, and on the innerbelt/sewer project. There should be one going up soon across Rt 8 from the Stark Tech crane at the new Akron City hospital tower that is about to go up.
July 12, 20177 yr So the interesting question from the above graph is why are so many buildings being built in those locations? The answer to me is that the transportation systems are booming.
July 12, 20177 yr There were a few cranes in Philly when I was living there last fall. Comcast, of course, and then the SCA tower in the Schuykill Yards development. Another project underway across the street from PSFS Building... I believe a 26 story condo tower. I'm interested in how the Schuykill Yards project moves forward. It is ambitious. But yeah... it's no Seattle, hah.
July 12, 20177 yr Columbus has at least 10 tower cranes. I find it hard to believe Austin has fewer. Editing to add: Luxe Belle Wilson Place Gay and High Beatty Building Trautman Building The Castle Hubbard Park Place 711 N High Rivers Edge II 7th and High Lane and Tuttle That's 11. View on Grant, Two25, and 303 Main have boom cranes with a skyline presence.

Carmel East last time I drive by a couple weeks ago as well as 2 cranes in Grove City at the new Mt. Carmel hospital off of 71. So that brings the total 15. I also think there will probably be about 3 more cranes going up around the downtown area soon: one at the old Swan Cleaner's sight on High, one at the 12-story hotel that will go up on Nationwide, and one (maybe 2) at the 9-story Behavioral Health Pavilion at Children's hospital. At any rate, I wouldn't believe that map.
July 13, 20177 yr Cranes are often only up for 1-2 months on the shorter buildings that use them. The new dorm at UC had a crane for what seemed to only be 5-6 weeks. Meanwhile, there was a crane over University Hospital for more than a year around 2013 during renovations. They weren't even building anything new!
July 13, 20177 yr I am surprised there are only 9 in Austin right now, given the significant transformation that city has undergone in the last half decade.
January 15, 20187 yr Stunning stuff... 10 developments set to reshape U.S. cities in 2018 A look at some of the megaprojects and supertall towers opening or hitting big milestones later this year https://www.curbed.com/2018/1/11/16879676/2018-real-estate-megaprojects-developments-hudson-yards "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
