Posted August 24, 20177 yr I had a bizarre eclipse experience...I actually had temporary eyesight damage. I felt pain behind my eyes during the eclipse and on the drive home experienced dramatic night blindness. When I got home my orange cat was tan and the rest of the colors had shifted in my house. When I woke up Tuesday morning, I could see no details in shadow, couldn't differentiate between shades of the same color, and was bothered by the different color temperatures of different light sources. On the drive to work, the world had mostly shifted to peach and cyan, with an overall loss of contrast. Colored road signs were generally slightly desaturated. I had a busy morning so I didn't have time to freak out and consider the rest of my life looking like baby food. I made an appointment to see an eye doctor on Wednesday, but by lunchtime on Tuesday, my vision had mostly corrected. I still had some color shift and night blindness Tuesday night, but by the time of the exam on Wednesday I was mostly back to normal. The doctor said there was no permanent damage and said it was caused because my eyes are genetically much more sensitive to bright light than most people. That's why people wearing the exact same glasses did not have a problem but I did. Here is a video I made on Monday that illustrates how dramatic the light disappears and then reappears in the path of totality: Here are various photos made in the half hour preceding the complete eclipse...photographers will recognize the strange color combinations and harsh shadows that simply don't happen under normal lighting. Right before totality...look at how deep all of those black shadows are in the woods: Strange colors and shadow over the face: Total loss of shadow detail:
