Hey Guys,

Just wanted to start this thread as I look to complete a 75% completion rate of every sanctioned and unsanctioned trail in the park. I have found some real gems that I would like to share with everyone, including some of the lesser-known or completely unknown waterfalls, which have proven to be breathtaking but difficult to get to.

I will be updating this with pictures and comments re: my hikes and would love input from everyone else. This park is so awesome and, as far as I could see, did not have a thread devoted to it.

Yesterday

I took a hike to "Contour Falls." There is no trail for almost 2/5 of this hike and you will have to hike in the creek bed - be prepared to get wet up to your knees. You can park at the Station Road trail head just off of Route 82 in Brecksville. Upon leaving the parking lot, use the small iron bridge to cross the river, and take a left. Make sure that as you walk, the canal stays on your right-hand side while you're on the towpath.

Every so often, you will notice a debris build-up in the canal, this is an indicator that there is a tributary, which should be visible if you look across the canal. You should pass two tributaries (the first of which will take you to Twin Sister Falls). On the third tributary, take a right and cross the canal. *Do not freak out, much of the stone and sediment provides a fairly easy crossing*. Once there, follow the creek for about 1 mile - when you see the fork in the creek, stay right and know that you are halfway there. You will have to cross some fallen trees as well as knee-high deep water, but the trek is worth it.

I will post a couple pictures in the post below (if the site lets me). Please, feel free to let me know if you've been to Contour Falls as well! I will reach all 7 of CVNP's waterfalls by October and will share a post and pictures with you each time.

Well... the site doesn't seem to be allowing me to post the pictures, I will continue to try in the meantime.

YABO.  Have you by any chance witnessed any of the otters that can be found in the CVNP?  They are supposedly in the beaver marsh area.

I have! I almost crapped myself when I did.

Additionally, I saw them in an unusual place... As you referenced, they are in the beaver marsh. However, I saw them on in an area of stagnant water in the creek that runs just off of the Ledges Trail. From everything I have heard, this is HIGHLY unusual. But, I can confirm that they do in fact exist in the park.

There is also a flourishing wild turkey population - the animal not the liquor. I have also heard that there have been nearly a dozen confirmed bear sightings in the park this year. This is staggering considering there were none from 2006-2011.

Great idea for a thread.

Thanks for posting.

^It's our state's only national park and one of the most visited in the country! It deserves its own thread! Hope you'll participate!

Still cannot upload pics. I'll try to figure this out this weekend.

They probably "dropped bears from helicopters" lol

I think the more likely explanation is a portal through the space-time continuum

Ardyn likes to go south rather than north along the railroad right of way from that parking lot and climb that hill immediately overlooking it.

We've gone further down past the marshes as well to the service garage.

She's six, so Daddy chose not to walk down too far, she still needed piggyback on the return trip.

I thought that was more of an Edgewater Park type of thing.

It's not remotely un-PC either, they seem to enjoy the nickname.

Yay!

You know you hate otters.  That "Yay!" is fake!

^^^ saving the otter hate for later, can you help me post my pictures? I'm still not able

Basically, find a photo-hosting website and type:
