January 24, 20232 yr something to think about -- Art What Makes a Good Arts District? Along Phoenix’s Roosevelt Row, development has pushed out several art spaces during the last decade, resulting in a “manufactured” arts district. Lynn Trimble 2 days ago PHOENIX — As the “best of” lists for 2022 were rolling out recently, USA Today announced its reader choices for top 10 arts districts in the country, with four districts in the Southwest making the cut. Roosevelt Row, near downtown Phoenix, took the number eight spot, although artists and culture workers in the area don’t necessarily view art as a central focus these days, due in part to an influx of residential towers, university students, eateries, and entertainment venues. more: https://hyperallergic.com/793833/what-makes-a-good-arts-district/ Art by Carrie Marill and Debra Hurd, Roosevelt Row, Phoenix (photo Lynn Trimble/Hyperallergic)

February 25, 20232 yr I was wondering about that. The parking lot behind Artcraft is part of the new police HQ property.
April 29, 20232 yr I'm excited to see that corner building finally being rehabbed. I used to work for Daffy Dan's across the street (Global X) and the rancid smell of the electroplating coming from that place when I walked past it will be forever imbedded in my olfactory memories. I looked at that space for the meadery a year ago and was told they didn't want drinking establishments, but rather retail.

Midway is an expensive start down that path, I guess. Edited May 25, 20232 yr by GISguy
September 27, 20231 yr What’s next in Superior Arts District? By Ken Prendergast / September 27, 2023 The south side of Superior Avenue in the Superior Arts District has been getting all the love in recent years. And why not? The sunny side of the main drag on the east side of downtown Cleveland is the new home of Cross Country Mortgage which relocated more than 600 employees from suburban Brecksville. You can also find residential conversions at 2320 and 2104-2110 Superior. And, of course, the new Cleveland Police Division headquarters will put several hundred employees in the ArtCraft Building overlooking Interstate 90. But the north side of the street is about to grab its share of attention, too. March 8, 20241 yr Elections board to the ex-Plain Dealer building? By Ken Prendergast / March 8, 2024 While not as controversial or as impactful as the county’s pending moves of its consolidated jail or courthouse facilities, the new site of the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections (BOE) could boost its new surroundings. With up to 200 permanent employees, plus hundreds more at election time and many more visitors for early voting, the positive and negative impacts on the BOE’s new surroundings could be significant. March 8, 20241 yr I think this is good news. It's another blank space going from dark to light in a pretty important location. Too bad the old BOE space won't be filled by a company wanting to locate on a main street not in but near downtown. A location like that used to be a great area for not quite ready for prime (downtown) time. Oh well, another conversion from office space to residential is better than another teardown but man l miss the old days of actually working at the office.
March 22, 20241 yr Email from the Exec today that they're going to introduce legislation next week to enter into a lease agreement for 1801/new BOE location.

March 22, 20241 yr It’s official: Board of Elections to ex-Plain Dealer building By Ken Prendergast / March 22, 2024 Confirming news first reported here at NEOtrans two weeks ago, Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne informed county staff that he will introduce plans to Cuyahoga County Council on Tuesday to lease the former Plain Dealer building downtown for the new Board of Elections (BOE) offices. In a memo circulated today to certain county employees, he also outlined plans for additional real estate moves by the county. March 22, 20241 yr This is great news! The PD building is very interesting inside. I especially like the lobby area facing Superior. The soft light coming through the windows creates a nice atmosphere. It’s excellent for displaying art and as a gathering place for visitors and workers. About 12 years ago, a colleague and I had a very successful exhibition of our paintings in that space. It’s a versatile space that can be adapted for many different uses. Edited March 22, 20241 yr by ArtMasterCLE
March 23, 20241 yr Yes, it is good news. Although it will likely result in their current building remaining vacant for quite a while.
March 25, 20241 yr ^ i would hope it doesn't sit empty long. its a nice, clean, modernist 50s building. it could be easily reused for anything.

June 28, 2024Jun 28 Development of that northeast quadrant of downtown would be huge. Currently it's like downtown abruptly ends east of E. 13th and North of CSU.
