It sounds like the project makes economic sense if the Superior-facing buildings are renovated with offices (for CrossCountry? -- still not certain) with a mix of renovation and new construction for residential. Surprisingly, especially considering what Bobby George is doing across the street, that BEK doesn't think the buildings are large enough to justify residential. Brecksville, Independence, Solon, Middleburg Heights, Beachwood, Mayfield Heights, Parma, etc., etc., etc., have been taking from the City of Cleveland for over a century (water, population, electricity, corporations, jobs, financial resources, religious institutions, taxes, etc.), providing little to nothing in return. There's some great things happening in the Superior Arts and more is coming, be it housing, offices or a nice mix of both. It says "office building" at 2160 East Superior Ave. That's the site that a partnership led by the CEO of Cross Country Mortgage acquired. While MJ reported that Cross Country was still considering moving its HQ from Brecksville to downtown, the CEO-led partnership was also still considering renovating the historic warehouses as housing. This listing as "office building" tells you their intentions. That means 1,000+ new jobs in a fast-growing company's HQ for downtown Cleveland. The dollar amount is small, only $500,000-749,000, but is likely only for design services. Additionally the description is "Proposed - Owner seeking Ohio Historic Preservation Tax Credit for project - Pending funding - Schedules undetermined." So it's not yet a done deal. Forgot to mention this a few months back, but I work with Minutemen on some various projects and the move to the PD building fell thru. I don't remember at this point what caused it to fall thru but it's not happening (money, government regulations, or issues with other tenants, one of those?). It wasn't because they got a better offer in Brecksville. Minutemen's business has multiple facets, but one of the key parts is its staffing agency that they would not be interested in moving away from transit and ability for people to walk in. I don't believe its worker's comp business would be served by leaving for the burbs either. I will try to see if I can find what they are planning to do now. They continue to grow and do still have a need for a bigger space.
