Hi guys i'm new here.  I'm moving to the cincy area in july of this year and will be attending Northern Kentucky U.  I was wondering, where would be a nice place to live.  I'm a 21 year old male and i'm looking for something up to or cheaper than $600 a month.  i was actually born in cincy but have lived overseas and in indianapolis the last 12 years, thanks guy.  Your opinions are appreciated.

There are several apartment facilities very close to NKU, just cant remember the names right now.  I'll figure them out soon and will post them here for you.  If you want to live on campus, there is 2 year old dorms that should still be fairly nice, called university suites.

Welcome Robstar.  If you are attending NKU, what side of the river do you want to live?  Do you want advice on the Ohio side or Kentucky side?  Would you be willing to live downtown or are you looking for suburban?  What is the square footage you are looking for for $600 a month?

I was actually up in the air about whether i wanted to live on the ohio or kentucky side.  My girlfriend curently goes to UC so somewhere conviently located between the two.  I'm very familiar with the covington/newport area however not so much with cincy, aside from the downtown for the occasional reds or bengals game.  As far as square footage i don't really care, just a 1 bedroom would be fine, it's not like i'll be there often.

and a bit off topic, because i absolutely love downtown cincy more so than indianapolis actually, but something i could not get used to was....  The amount of people that were panhandling/ bumming for money in the downtown area it was unlike anything i'd ever seen, not like that in indy.  Is that an everyday thing or was it because of the reds game?  thanks, just wondering.

thanks for all of your help

robstar, welcome to the forum!

As a downtown resident, I think you will love it! Seriously. My wife and I have been downtown residents for almost 2 years now. On the panhandling issue, you will find it in any big city, but I think Cincy isn't too bad for a dense, sizable downtown that it is. Besides, at first you will notice a weirdness about it compared to suburbia, but your attitude changes with it as your life becomes downtown. You will pass by and not give a panhandler a second thought (I know this may sound mean, but it's life). I would make no claims as to the panhandlers being "too aggressive". Of course this is an opinion and is subjective.

If you did choose an apartment in the downtown area, 471 gives you quick access to NKU. Nothing to worry about here. You will have access to art venues, restaurants, concerts, and of course SPORTS! ;) Me and about 6 other people went to a concert recently and my pad was the center of the night. We met here, walked to grab a bite to eat, walked to another bar, then walked to the concert and then some people just stayed the night here (drunk). No cars ... It is a good feeling, indeed!

Downtown Cincinnati is going through a lot of changes right now and it feels great to call this my neighborhood! We are definitely heading in the right direction. The Emery Center is definitely a great apartment. You have to be stern in letting them know your budget though, because they will of course steer you towards higher end apts. I live in the Shillito right now and they might have a studio in your price range and when I say studio, it is "big enough" for someone that will hardly be there. Send me a PM if you want more info on this or any other Towne Properties.

Also feel free to send me a PM with any questions you might have regarding any rentals in DT and maybe I can give you some suggestions.

Well, I think Indy's downtown is cleaner and a bit ahead of cincy in terms of gentrification.  Indy was much smaller in the urban core, so they had less stuff to "clean up."  The panhandlers in Cincy are mostly harmless, so I seriously would not worry.  You get used to it and just know to not even look at them.

robstar, just so you know, Cincy-Rise is a panhandler.

Yeah, I reply to this thread from the Cincinnati Public Library on Vine St.
