Posted October 27, 20177 yr We apologize for the lengthy delay in getting the forum back online. We're very lucky it wasn't lost for good! Everyone will be required to request a password reset via email, there is no way around this. I've added a few of the original mods we had on the old forum, but not all of them. Please expect quite a few issues that we will have to work through to get things back to they were. Much more to follow..
October 27, 20177 yr Author To reset your password: Click login in the menu of the forum located just before register. You will then see the login box in the middle of the screen. At the bottom you will see a link to Forgot your password? Click that and enter your username. It will send an email to your email address on file to reset your password. Once you complete this, you will be able to log back onto the forum.
October 27, 20177 yr What a pleasant surprise to see as I went to go to bed tonight! Thanks for what I assume was a lot of hard work! Though, I'm sure my productivity has been a tiny bit higher the past few weeks ;)
October 27, 20177 yr I felt like after 2 weeks in rehab I was finally getting UO out of my system. And now like a junkie, here I am again mainlining UO inside a dumpster behind Burger King. Welcome back folks.
October 27, 20177 yr Author Just an fyi, it seems @gmail and @aol email address aren't accepting our server's emails. If this affects you, just email us from your registered email address with the password you would like to have and we will change it manually.

If this affects you, just email us from your registered email address with the password you would like to have and we will change it manually. I have gmail and I got the email - it was in the spam folder, but I got it.
October 27, 20177 yr Thank you. I kept refreshing my email and entering my user name on UO thinking I wasn't going to be able to get back on. So check your spam folders if you have gmail, I had four messages from UO there! Nice to have the site back up and running, especially since SSP doesn't have many Ohio forumers.
October 27, 20177 yr Moderators - if you're on a new hosting environment - please make sure you have DKIM/SPF verification set up from the server that is sending the emails. My guess is that Gmail doesn't recognize the new sending server as owned by Urban Ohio, so it suspects it is SPAM.
October 27, 20177 yr Question - I don't see "Bookmarks" as an option any more. Can we get that added back in? I know you moderators probably have a ton of "to do" items, so I appreciate all you did just to get the forum back up! I was a bit worried it would never come back!
October 27, 20177 yr I'm not someone who comments often, but I do come to this site regularly almost every day, and I must say, I was going through some good updates and withdrawal of keeping up with other peoples insights and ideas on here!!! Glad this is back up and running!!!
October 27, 20177 yr Many happy returns. I had issues with resetting my password, so hello extra letter!
October 27, 20177 yr ^We can help you get back to your old one. Just shoot us a PM. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
October 28, 20177 yr Thanks, guys! I was getting tired of reading development news on cleveland.com and having nobody to complain about it with!
October 28, 20177 yr I can’t remember what email address I was using when I registered (I was in high school!). New username who dis?
October 29, 20177 yr Author I had to make additional changes to the permissions, so everyone should be able to post now. We are basically starting the forum over again from scratch, which means all the settings and adjustments we've made over the years has to be done all over again. Please let me know of any further issues anyone is having.
October 29, 20177 yr I'd like to know how to find hot russian singles....oh, never mind, here it is on the bottom!
October 29, 20177 yr Yeah, I've got a "Sweetheart in Asia" asking me to "meet" her at chineseladydate.com.
October 30, 20177 yr I've got full functionality on the forum finally and believe it or not it isn't due to the ads for ladies.
October 30, 20177 yr Glad to be back! Is there a way to mark all the "new replies to your posts" as read without going through them all? It seems that any thread I've ever commented on in the last 9 years is now on that list.
October 30, 20177 yr Author There is a mark all messages as read at the bottom right of the main forum page.
October 30, 20177 yr There is a mark all messages as read at the bottom right of the main forum page. Thanks! I had tried that on the "unread replies page" and it didn't work for me. But from the main page it did!
October 31, 20177 yr There ya go. Thanks for the help with the inactive registered e-mail. Just in time for the election. :)
October 31, 20177 yr Very glad to see the forum is back up! Can't imagine how much time and effort it took to get it going again. It's an invaluable resource for all Ohioans interested in urban issues, and it spurred my interest in urban redevelopment all the way back in 2007 when I was a freshman in high school. I'm sure it's done the same for many others here, and will continue to do so for future generations. I really appreciate the hard work and dedication of the site owners and moderators to make such a unique site a reality. Btw, I was OHKID. I switched my username to SWOH to match UO with my other online accounts.
October 31, 20177 yr When I went to reset my password, I discovered my email for here might be 3-4 addresses ago (forum software had no record of my current email). Thus, I'm going with a new handle for the time being.
November 1, 20177 yr Author When I went to reset my password, I discovered my email for here might be 3-4 addresses ago (forum software had no record of my current email). Thus, I'm going with a new handle for the time being. You can use your old handle, just give me your current email and we'll reset it.
November 1, 20177 yr Author I'd also like to add that anyone who had registered an account prior to the forum being down but had 0 posts, your account has been lost and you will have to register once again. I know we've had a lot of lurkers, so this applies to many of them.
November 1, 20177 yr Congratulations on rebuilding the forum. I pinged someone here (I think it may have been richncincy) about helping but my MySql-fu was probably not up to the task. I can relate. Early in October I lost the hard drive on my main desktop PC where I do all billable work, plus it has thousands of personal pictures and documents. Backup vendors lie!!! >:( Hey, one thing that may help... I also got my password reset message sent to my SPAM folder (I use a Gmail address for this forum.) I have a recommendation. This is a "when the dust finally settles" matter... not urgent but something that can be fixed eventually. Since others apparently aren't seeing their password reset emails, I think you guys should probably look into a third party email provider. Example: MailGun, which allows your site to send 10,000 emails per month for free. There are others. MailGun may not be perfect but it should be better than trying to DIY, and the price is right. I develop websites and getting site emails such as password resets and other stuff out to visitors reliably is a royal pain in the ass and it's almost impossible to get right on a dedicated server where you supply your own resources. I set up Mailgun for my WordPress sites and the problem mostly went away. The reason you're seeing the SPAMming is that almost all of the webmail services such as Google and Yahoo now demand that your server's email setup provides layers of extensive identity verification - their solution to spam. If you don't implement the stuff they like, they spam your emails. One technique is to set up a mail delivery protocol called DKIM on your server, and I gave up on doing this after several hours. A third party email agent has the email delivery problem solved.
November 2, 20177 yr I’ve noticed that since the forum is back up, any posted pictures are really small. Anyone know why, and is it something that can be fixed to get them back to full size? Thanks in advance for any insight.
November 2, 20177 yr All the personalizations and settings they had ever done over the years were lost, so we are working off the default settings for the forum software... I imagine hero member is the default version of where we used to have all the different ohio buildings.

I imagine hero member is the default version of where we used to have all the different ohio buildings. Thanks. How about the tiny pictures I mentioned upthread?
November 3, 20177 yr Are images attached to old posts gone for good, or am I just not seeing them for some reason?
November 3, 20177 yr Interesting that all of the thread page numbers at the bottom of thread listings or thread pages are showing up. So should I assume the repair is still a work in progress? November 3, 20177 yr Author Are images attached to old posts gone for good, or am I just not seeing them for some reason? We still have them we just need to see it there is a way to associate them back to their original location.
November 3, 20177 yr Author Interesting that all of the thread page numbers at the bottom of thread listings or thread pages are showing up. So should I assume the repair is still a work in progress? I've changed that. There will be several quirks here and there for a while. We'll get them ironed out soon.

November 7, 20177 yr Not sure if this has already been posted elsewhere, but one thing that may have been lost (permanently or otherwise) are all the polls on threads. At least I see the Religion thread poll is gone (I'm about to recreate it, I think) and all of the various sports teams polls ("How many games will ______ win this season?") polls that I clicked on were gone.

At least I see the Religion thread poll is gone (I'm about to recreate it, I think) and all of the various sports teams polls ("How many games will ______ win this season?") polls that I clicked on were gone. They may be in the salvaged post section. Feel free to search and see if you're able to move it back to the correct thread.
November 9, 20177 yr I couldn't reset my password--something to do with the email. So I just registered again with a username very similar to the one I had been using (you'll recognize it), used a different computer, and I used my other email address. So the new registration went thru just fine. Not sure why I coudn't reset my pw., I kept waiting for an email but nothing ever came. No I'm not a "newbie" ::) Anyway, glad to be back!
