Ummm I selected the part of your comment to which I wanted to respond which talked about ads shining in peoples windows, that’s how discussions work, which was also in context of the tweet you posted. Also please stop with the “relax” stuff this is now the 3rd time you’ve said it and it’s kinda becoming disrespectful.

I was in Cincinnati a couple weeks ago and purposely went down and walked along central past the stadium just to make sure I wasnt losing my mind and it turns out I wasn’t. For the millionth time there is virtually no residential that’s sits directly along the stadium fins or on that section of central parkway period. Yes* at night light will naturally shine east down onto streets that have residential but this idea that blinding Chick-Fil-A ads are going to disturb residents while they are trying to have dinner or enjoy the newest episode of wheel of furtune just isn’t true.

I'm an FCC season ticket holder (since the inaugural USL season) and live in OTR. I walked to the home opener, and I mostly really like the new stadium (though part of me wishes MLS and the team ownership had found a way to make Nippert work long term). As the crow flies, my house is over half a mile away, but I have direct line of sight to the stadium's east elevation and LED fins. Even from this distance, the lights from the stadium are bright enough that I can tell when the lights are on even with my window blinds shut. As the stadium lights transition between colors, it creates a "flashing effect" which is much more distracting than if the lights were just constant. My blinds pick up the orange-to-blue switches and, to be honest, I find it annoying. I don't think it's unfair or unreasonable to criticize the stadium's lights, especially when they're turned on during non-event nights. I hope they are still in "testing" mode, as they tweak the designs (brightness, colors, patterns, etc) of the lighting as well as sort out what kind of lighting is appropriate on non-event days. Part of good urban design is being considerate of your neighbors, especially when it comes to noise and light pollution. I think we should push FCC to be a good urban neighbor, and try to make their lighting design decisions as considerate as possible.

I agree, and from what I understand in regards to the photos in that tweet this was testing, the fins are NOT  going to be on during non event days once they get everything adjusted and not related to maintenance, which would make a lot of sense. Im sure the team doesn’t want to run up an electric bill playing ads along a street that doesn’t see much foot or car traffic on non game day evenings.

Wait, Cincinnati has hills and elevation changes!?

How much of the light would be blocked if the opposite side of the Parkway had buildings with 6+ floors?

What’s interesting is you conveniently added “part of the experience of living in the city” only after pushing the same ole *lights/ads are shining in people’s homes line.

It really is amazing how much light features like this can affect homes from a distance, regardless of how tall the building you live in is.  Here in Columbus, I had friends who used to live in North Bank Tower, just down the road from the AEP skyscraper.  AEP has a light bar/feature at the top of their building that would change colors/pulsate and it was insane how much it flooded into their condo!!  They had to use slumber mask's at night to sleep without disruption.  My guess is they are still testing the waters of the intensity of the lights, and hopefully will turn down the wattage after a certain hour perhaps?  For the record, I do think the lighting feature is quite impressive though and unique.  I actually personally prefer the night time light show views of the stadium compared to the see through skeleton view of the daytime hours, but that's me.

I agree. During the day, the stadium still looks "unfinished" to my eye, as if it's missing a visual layer/wrap to enclose it. I think the most impressive views are definitely at night (or around dusk as the sun is setting) with the LED fins on. As they've cycled through various lighting designs, there are some designs that are beautiful, and then there are others that just seem tacky, like a cheap ticker board LED. As I said in a previous post, I hope they continue to refine the designs to make the lighting beautiful, and that they show some restraint about when to turn the lights on at night. The commercialization of professional sports is a reality and a trend that seems to only be going in one direction (towards more commercialization), but that doesn't mean we should just roll over and accept ugly, gigantic corporate billboards on everything.

I personally like it day and night. Of course most people are going to prefer nighttime for obvious reasons. Like every project that has an exotic design opinions will vary.

I remembered the only thing I really don't like about the stadium is from the inside you can't really see downtown at all. When there at Saints games back in the day there was a great view.

Not to go off topic of TQL but Liberty and Elm will really change this view. Not from a height point as much as a density point.

Similar shape as a UDF donut... coincidence?

I had the chance to go to the Hell is Real game on Friday and I have to say, this stadium is a masterpiece. It feels like a mini Euro stadium. I saw some Crew fans online calling it a budget NFL stadium but I disagree entirely. TQL reminds me of a mini Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

The roof holds in the noise and when FCC scored, the place was deafening. The noise of the Crew supporters also carried pretty well. I sit in the south end to I was getting noise from both sides.

The seats are very close to the pitch, much more so than some of the MLS 1.0 stadiums I've visited.

Pros:

  • Great seats and sightlines
  • Nice video boards
  • Food and drink was reasonable for a sporting event
  • Noise level was high

Cons:

  • Crowded concourses - I blame MLS rules making the TQL staff keep people away from the away supporters which caused bottle necks, but they need better signage for exits and better line control during halftime for food/bathrooms
  • Quiet PA - Once the game gets going, it's hard to hear the PA

I'm interested to see games from the Bailey and the upper deck and I'm hoping to check out Lower.com Field later this year to compare the two.

I wanted to get to Cincy for this game soooo bad but couldn’t make it! But from the video clips I’ve seen the atmosphere was incredible. I have a friend that went and it was her first time to the stadium and she said it was stunning. I heard Miami is revising its designs for their new stadium (in a bad way) so TQL is probably gonna be the leagues top venue for quite awhile.

Seriously though, I can't wait until we can move past the comparison stage of these stadium openings. I've said it before, but each team has a beautiful new stadium to be proud of, yet each is very unique from the other. They are both the envy of just about every other team in the league (and all of North America) and have really raised the bar for new soccer stadiums in this country.

Im pretty sure that’s why they said “mini”. Also I’ve heard that comparison before from others too, it shouldn’t surprise since the 2 stadiums have the same architect.

I’ve heard from close contacts that bookings at TQL for private events are sky high!!! All that top notch premium space is going to bring some big bucks to the team.

My point was that there isn't really much similarity between the two at all. Not to say TQL isn't a good looking stadium, because it is (in my opinion).

I actually agree with the mini Tottenham comment, from the very unique lighting technology to the ultra modern design. But with Tottenham being 3x bigger and a billion dollars more the similarity isn’t going to be glaring.

TQL unveiling new space at FC Cincinnati’s stadium: PHOTOS

Total Quality Logistics already has the naming rights to FC Cincinnati’s new $250 million stadium. Now it’s unveiling a new space in the facility that features its name.

TQL, based in Clermont County’s Union Township, will open the TQL Beer District on Wednesday for FC Cincinnati’s 8 p.m. game vs. Atlanta United.

The TQL Beer District is a space on the main concourse in the southwest corner of TQL Stadium next to the Pitch View Club entrance. It features 10 beers from around the world available for purchase. Fans can gather along a drink rail and watch the game from the space, TQL spokeswoman Julia Fulton told me.

The Beer District also includes a selfie area on a wall geared to posting photos on Instagram.

HUGE!!!!! I’m definitely going!

CEO’s of some of Cincinnati’s Biggest companies including P&G who just signed a huge MLS sponsorship deal is jumping in to help Cincinnati on the 2026 World Cup bid. I’m feeling pretty confident Cincinnati will play some kind of significant role even if it doesn’t get a game, like mentioned before by hosting a big name team as home city. If so I’m hoping all or a significant portion of the development around TQL will be completed by then.

“Cincinnati is the perfect host city for the World Cup,” said P&G's Taylor, in a statement.“Our community comes together to rally around big initiatives and get the job done. We’re ready to roll up our sleeves and show FIFA all that the Cincinnati region has to offer.”

Ohio National's Turner said Cincinnati was in "a strong position" in its bid.

“Cincinnati is passionate about this beautiful game and we’re prepared to represent the Midwest as a great American soccer city,” Turner said in a statement.

It's great that they're involved, but it would be nice to see some people involved who aren't CEOs of major corporations. Get some excitement into the bid. They are important allies to the cause, but it feels a little underwhelming if that's all they've got to spearhead the bid. Hopefully I'm wrong, and that's exactly what FIFA wants out of their committees.

Another good pickup with the Women’s team now coming. The other cities seem to be Kansas City and Minneapolis, no word on the 4th yet.

The USWNT is coming to TQL Stadium. Here's what we know.

TQL Stadium will serve as the host venue and backdrop for the four-time FIFA World Cup-winning United States Women's National Team in one of four upcoming friendly matches to be played in September and October, the source confirmed to The Enquirer.
