The things I heard come out of that device, you'd think we were this close living in the People's Republic of America, and Republicans are the superheroes here to save the day. Luckily not enough people listen to republican talk radio nowadays, but the damage has been done. Also, after hearing the 700WLW news intro/outro last week, I realized that I grew up listening to that as a kid in my parents' car... and I grew up 130+ miles away from here. But just wanted to add that I also grew up listening to it in my dad's truck and I grew up about 70 miles away. They know their audience isn't in Cincinnati, or even in Hamilton County for the most part.
August 10, 20204 yr OTR residents push back over FC Cincinnati Stadium exterior lighting Some Over-the-Rhine residents are pushing back on the design of FC Cincinnati's future West End Stadium, namely its light-up exterior. The Over-the-Rhine Community Council (OTRCC) voted 30-to-1 July 27 to oppose FC Cincinnati's plan to extend its use of stadium facade lighting to include promotions from sponsors and advertisers. As a result, the community council sent a letter to the City of Cincinnati arguing its position, citing a lack of input and concern for quality of life in the neighborhood. FC Cincinnati is limited to displaying its own content and must seek approval from the city before it can extend use of the facade lighting to advertisers. Representatives with the soccer club approached the community council on July 2 asking for support for the plan before seeking approval on an amendment from the Cincinnati City Planning Commission and City Council, said Margy Waller, an OTR resident who serves on the community council. I remember while living in OTR she opposed the nice looking building that was at one point proposed along Race (the one replacing the one story garage along the park) for a number of reasons, including "5 stories is out of character" and "I love modern design but not THIS type of modern design." I pointed out that that city block has several 5 story buildings and she told me to be quiet "you only get a say if you live in OTR." I mentioned I lived a block away on Race and she told me I MUST have some sort of financial gain from the project then and that my opinion is invalid. The absolute worst of NIMBYism.

When I took my photo it honestly doesn’t have a huge presence along central that is, I am assuming It’s due to it being set back some. I haven’t looked I’m at it from the John st side but I’d think it would have a much greater presence on that side.

September 4, 20204 yr The numbering switches at the sharp bend from an east/west street scheme to a north/south street scheme. It jumps from 200 to 2100. The 2200 block begins at Emming but the 2300 block starts at a random point on that same block and continues north of Warner St. The 2400 block begins around Adkins St. Meanwhile, the parallel north-south streets have no 2400 block. So the numbering gets ahead by 100 as W. Clifton approaches McMillan.

September 8, 20204 yr I have seen a few people mention that the city has been working on a redesign of Central Parkway near the stadium. Does anybody have information about this? Will the pillars for the removed skywalk finally be removed?

September 17, 20204 yr The best idea I've heard yet I believe came from @jmecklenborg; call the stadium the Tide Pod, and use the orange/blue color scheme to it's advantage.
September 17, 20204 yr Considering we are living in Cranley's Cincinnati, I see it more likely that it is Gold Star Stadium than Skyline Stadium. Gotta say it though, both are good names.
September 17, 20204 yr It's sad. When I was a kid I had a poster with a picture of all 28 MLB stadiums on it. The only one that had sold its naming rights was Busch Stadium.

I'd guess that the majority of people don't realize it's actually a company name. So it's sort of a win-win. Some cities end up with some unfortunate sponsor names that are just odd or glaringly commercial - like Guaranteed Rate Field, which sounds like something you'd find in an Excel file.

I do believe the county owned the stadium, but Busch Stadium did not seem overly corporate at the time given the family ties to the area.
September 21, 20204 yr There have been three Busch Stadiums. The first was named by August Busch, who owned the team and the stadium at the time (he wanted to call it Budweiser stadium, but league rules prohibited naming after an alcoholic beverage). The second was Busch Memorial Stadium. The third, and current, is the one that sold its naming rights. Also, Crosley was a brand, too.

September 21, 20204 yr The single-surname brand names work pretty well because they're typically not as contrived or commercial sounding as some of the goofier stadium names out there. Take a look at Cleveland, for example - Rocket Mortgage Field House is a silly name. If it were just named for the guy who owns the company that bought the naming rights (Gilbert Field House), it'd be way more palatable. Cincinnati is ripe for a bad name, though, so I won't be surprised if we get something along the lines of what's been posted here. Something like P&G Stadium would be fine, but someone will want to brand it and we'll get Pampers Park.
