Wishful thinking but is the glass ramp/aviary looking building located where the underground laggering tunnels are located? That could be a really cool space or more likely it's just a skylight into the parking garage.

Nope. Cellars are under the parking lot to the north.

It will help us remember the inspiring design of the Coliseum/US Bank Arena once that is demolished.

I'm actually most interested to see how the development around the site comes together.  That is what will activate this area of the West End/OTR. I imagine it will happen more quickly then the development between the stadiums at the Banks. It will be interesting to see how they design the development to wrap around the East and North sides of the stadium site.

I'm fairly happy with the changes and think it looks a lot better now (I'm also a fan of PBS' elements so YMMV on my takes, ha). I initially was a bit disappointed with the design, but as @ryanlammi pointed out—anything they would've done to make it look "old" or "blend in" with bricks, etc. would've just come off tacky and cheap. Hopefully once some of the development fills in, it'll blend in a bit better. Overall, I really like the "fins" as opposed to the orange blob originally envisioned.

Only things I don't particularly care for:

  • The Southeast corner originally had a cut out in the structure that allowed spectators inside to have a clear view of the skyline, it's now been replaced by a video screen. Although, this may have been for sound mitigation/Music Hall considerations and might've just come off as bland as GABP's "gap."
  • Minnesota has a really cool promenade/plaza with a retro scoreboard. So far, our interior doesn't seem to have any unique elements, but those may be revealed later.

As a season ticket holder in the current supporter section, I'm very happy that safe-standing is coming. The next steps I'm cautiously watching, though, are development and connectivity. Whatever gets built nearby needs to be useful and not look like Oakley Station or a Blue Ash strip mall. And while this may not all be on the club: the city needs to really connect this thing to other areas. Streetcar operations need to be tailored for matchday capacity; there are multiple bus routes nearby that need to be promoted as connecting with Clifton, Northside, the westside; the bike lane on CPKWY needs to be cleaned up to encourage cycling and red bikes, etc. Although, no matter who is mayor by then, I doubt any of them will be able to Google another city and take any interest in how any of that could work.

FC Cincinnati’s Berding on new stadium’s premium seating: ‘We’re breaking the mold here’

FC Cincinnati’s new West End stadium will have more club seats and suites than any other Major League Soccer stadium that’s not an NFL venue, giving fans nearly four times as many premium club seating options as they have now.

The stadium will feature 4,500 club seats and 59 suites, including 54 traditional suites and five party and field-level suites. MLS averages about 2,000 club seats and suites numbering in the 20s, FC Cincinnati president Jeff Berding said Tuesday at a roundtable discussion after the team unveiled its design plans for the new $250 million, self-financed stadium. Los Angeles FC’s stadium that opened last season has 3,000 club seats, with suites numbering in the 30s. FC Cincinnati’s facility goes well beyond that.

“We’re breaking the mold here,” Berding said.

FC Cincinnati’s current Nippert Stadium home on the University of Cincinnati’s campus has about 1,200 club seats and about 20 suites, Berding said. It’s had waiting lists from the team’s first season in 2016.

Aside from making more money, the added suites help keep costs down for other tickets. One of their stated goals is to have one of the lowest price points in MLS (maybe not average, but median, at least). This would help achieve that goal without sacrificing spending levels on players, academies, facilities, etc.

Is that an aviary at center-right?  Or a marijuana grow operation?

If FC Cincy gets an aviary then I think the Bengals’ lease says they have to get one too. Thats how their lease works right......

The underground area could be team offices. At Vivint Arena in SLC, they have all of their team offices below the main entrance steps. That could be the office lobby that you're seeing.

I believe it is the team Store.

Aviary?  Well, The Bengals did have The Bird Band:

I wasn't allowed to go to Bengals games when I was a kid.  Specifically, it was my grandma who didn't allow it, because of the "drunks" and the "foul language".  Around age 9 my dad took me to a game without her knowledge, and as grandma warned, the scene in the stands was...boorish.  But down at the end of the astroturf end zone was a corny old-guy band set up under what looked like a shipping container.  It was the fabled Bird Band.

There lease says if another NFL team has something they have to get similar or better. So hopefully it wont be an issue of MLS having something they dont have.

^I believe the lease actually says if 50% of the other teams in the NFL get something, they are entitled to it. Not just any NFL team.

Both the Jehovah's and Revelation Baptist Church have been transferred, but the $'s are not listed on the auditor's site.  Revelation closed on May 11 and is now owned by West End Holdings, which is the team.  The Jehovah's Witness property transferred on July 11 and is now owned by the Port Authority.  I drove past today and the landscaping has already become overgrown.

Also, the former Kuhfer's Lofts on the north side of Wade St. now has a FSBO sign on it.  The two condos they completed were represented by Shawn Baker & Michael Teggert but neither sold.

No small-time owners remain on the 400 block of Wade.  Everything is owned by a checkerboard of LLC's.  The speculator who got the small corner lot at the corner of Wade & Central Ave. in 2015 from the auditor is still holding out, and the mysterious Lloyd Tate still owns the lot at the SW corner of Bauer & Central Ave.  I know that various parties have been trying to track him down for six months and either the guy can't be found or he is ill or he is being amazingly defiant.

Citing civil rights, religious history, councilman wants West End church saved from FCC’s demolition plans

Cincinnati Councilman Chris Seelbach wants to designate a West End church that FC Cincinnati plans to demolish a historic landmark, a proposal a team spokeswoman called “nakedly political.”

The 154-year-old church at 1565 John St., now called Revelation Baptist Church, meets the city’s historic guidelines in several ways, Seelbach’s 27-page application to the Historic Conservation Board said:

  • It is “associated with events that have made a significant contribution to the broad patterns of our history including the evolution of Reform Judaism in Cincinnati and the development of Cincinnati’s West End as an important African American enclave and the American Civil Rights Movement.”
  • It “is associated with the life of significant figures in our city’s history including Rabbi Isaac Mayer Wise and the Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth.” Shuttlesworth, one of the Civil Rights movement’s major figures, was pastor there from 1961 to 1966. Wise was not the rabbi of the congregation known as Achabeth Achim, but he preached there and was friends with the congregation’s members, which influenced its conversion from Orthodox to Reform Judaism, according to the application.

I'm not sure if it was said on here or not , but I think this would be perfect for the Team Store or some type of team/community event center (Maybe replace Seven Hills Center since it really doesn't fit well with the neighborhood).

Build whatever kind of infill you want around it but saving this would be a wise decision by the FC leadership from a PR perspective.

I say that as a West End resident and an FC season ticket holder.

I was aimlessly dicking around admiring some of GBBN’s work and came across this page for a new ballet academy south of the Baldwin. No real renderings, probably isn’t even a solid proposal, and if it is, it sort of feels like the kind of thing we aren’t supposed to see yet (in which case mods might delete this, I don’t want anyone to lose their job ?).

Anyways, if there is a plan of this sort in motion it would obviously free up that corner for the county garage (if they aren’t still wedded to the two-garage idea; I know fcc really wants a single mammoth garage on site.)

The one tower on the far left reminds me the one that was proposed a few years ago that was supposed to have a grocery store on the bottom floor. I think it was a bengals players company that was proposing it.

another view of Central Parkway at the bend. New infills. Plus a traffic circle at the bend and widen Plum (?) rework of traffic patterns.

I wonder with US Bank coming off of the Arena they are going to sponsor the stadium instead....

It's gotta be US Bank or First Financial.  I definitely could see FF wanting to get in on this with how fast they are growing.

Could FF afford a stadium sponsor? How big is the bank?

They're getting pretty big, I think they'd be able to afford it. I don't know the disparity in sponsorship pricing between the NFL and MLS stadiums, but it certainly makes a statement that you're here to play with the big dogs.

Given the multi year partnership with First Financial, I doubt they would want another bank on the naming marquee of the stadium, so it probably wont be US Bank Stadium.

Could it be Pro-Football Focus Stadium? Would be semi ironic.

FC Cincinnati submits new plans to the city

"The John and Wade street future development is expected to have up to four stories and reach 60 feet, with 60,000 gross square feet. It could include 100 units of multifamily housing, eating and drinking establishments, office, banks, community learning, day care, a food market or a cultural institution."

If they put a f'n parking garage at the corner of Central and Liberty, I'll be livid. What a waste of a big-time corner.

At least wrap the garage with commercial on the first floor and put something useful on top of the garage.  These people suck.

Is that not where the cincinnati ballet is located? Are they moving?

The master plan is to put a garage there once their lease runs out or if FCC buys it out.  For the near-term, it will remain the ballet.

The fact that they included a blown-up detail of "improvements" at the Reading Road and Liberty intersection I have officially let go of any hope for the Liberty street road diet happening. It is clear that the focus is using Liberty street to get people from I-71 to the stadium and that those cars are of the utmost importance.

Liberty Diet is still happening...Last I heard it was still on track to begin next year.

In regards to the Ballet building, on one hand a parking garage replacing that site is truly a waste.

On the other hand, a premier modern ballet facility in a downtown location (the empty lot Walnut St next to the downtown library would be a great spot) would both enhance the programs mission in recruiting top talent, but also become more visible to the public eye.

The diet is still happening, but it's being pushed through in a half-baked method. It'll provide very few benefits to the neighborhood. 6 lanes instead of 7.

I would argue that it's biggest feature is cosmetic. Larger sidewalks (assuming repaved), pedestrian islands filled with trees and planters.

It might be half baked, but it will definitely look a tad more prettier when all is said and done.

I know its not perfect, but I am glad FCC is using garages instead of surface lots.

Not sure if the county/city mandated that, but either way its better than what it could be.

Edited by seaswan

Hopefully that county garage, whenever it actually gets built, has some type of retail on the ground floor.  I wonder how high /big it will be.  Doubt the'd top it with any type of development so hopefully they at least put something on the ground level.  The west side of the stadium will always stay a surface lot but I don't mind that one.  It helps separate the stadium from the neighborhood on the other side of the street.

The two development sites on the norther corners of the stadium will be interesting to watch.  I think a hotel would do well there as it would not only get business from stadium events but also from people who want to come and visit OTR.  Apartments I think would be successful as well with how close they are to OTR.  FCC's coaching/training staff will be working out in Milford but their back office and sales team still have an office in downtown.  I wonder if the team will include some office space in one of these developments so their employees can be at the stadium.

Really we just need the stadium to be finished and then the ballet to move before any of this development starts.  Hopefully the're able to find a good new location for the ballet within a couple years after the stadium opens.  I'd hate for all those surface lots to stay for 5-10 years.

FCC would be smart to create a mini banks next to the FCC in the West End, that way it would be another source of revenue for them as they collect $$$ from suburbanites who want to park as close as possible to the FCC stadium and have a drink at the West End FCC Bar Louie and eat up some wings at the FCC Buffalo Wings and Rings.

I agree with the premise but hope they don't go with shitty chains like Bar Louie and B-Dubs.  Just do a couple simple sports bar like Holy Grail.  Maybe get one of the local breweries to build a brewpub there.  Anything local would be better then a national chain.

To be fair he said Buffalo Wings and Rings, which is locally owned; however the question is, if the intention is to surround it in places like Bar Louie as well as demolish all the nearby historic buildings, then why did they want to build the stadium next to OTR instead of just building the damn thing in Oakley?

MLS requirement new expansion stadiums to be built in an urban environment close to the downtown urban core. They probably didn't find Oakley urban enough to their liking.

It would have made so much more sense to put this thing at Ovation where there is plenty of room for infill and the team would have gotten basically no pushback regarding gentrification.

I love the location of the soccer stadium. Its the perfect location for keeping development going in the city center. What was a barren landscape with abandoned buildings, remnants of businesses long gone, not to mention a butt ugly entrance to the downtown area, is now going to be a beautiful stadium, a money maker for the city and enticement for new development. Some developer is going to see the advantage of offices, entertainment venues and housing along Central Parkway and Liberty St. Parking garages could surround the stadium and with some imagination hidden with shopping, restaurants and apartments. It seems like a great place for people who would like to walk to work, and still own a car. In a few years after new development and normalcy returns, the stadium will become a good neighbor. The area will be cleaner, pedestrians will be more plentiful, which will cause businesses to open, (until the robots takeover)and  employment for the locals. For example Findley market is a thing and could become a bigger thing if it were surrounded by shopping and people. The brewery trail is a thing but could become a bigger thing with Octoberfest bar walks, a soccer filled weekend, a stroll thru OTR.  In my opinion, soccer will become bigger and bigger in the next decade. Cincinnati will have three stadiums that can accommodate full size legal soccer meets. That could mean tournaments,  and even soccer conventioneers. Maybe an annual socca-con. futbol-con. Who knows. How about a soccer museum in the abandoned building recently used by churches.

Interesting? Adjacent to where those grassy lots are?

If built tall enough it would have good frontage on I-71 and be a good way to freely "advertise" the Cincinnati Ballet.

Well that would certainly match the renderings posted above.

Does anyone know why Liberty "wiggles" between Central and Central Parkway? That has irrationally bothered me for a long time.
