Posted January 15, 20187 yr Over Christmas week, I made a trip out to the Bay Area and got to check out a lot of the new developments. We didn't travel south but did manage to hit up a lot of the major locales in the East Bay and wine country, in addition to San Francisco itself. Luckily the weather was reasonably cooperative and I managed to get a few good shots of the City by the Bay. 1. 20171225_220443260_iOS (1) by Ethan Kocjan, on Flickr Let's get this one out of the way, shall we? 2. IMG_1999 by Ethan Kocjan, on Flickr We got a pretty incredible deal on a hotel in SoMa, which was a very convenient jumping-off point for exploring the rest of the city. 3. The rest of the Haight seemed very clean (and hyper-gentrified!) but Haight Street itself was still a bastion of filth. This was Christmas Day, so not a whole lot was open. 22. San Francisco is a bewildering, beautiful, disgusting, energetic, ever-changing unchangeable enigma of a city, that's for sure. More photos, focusing on the North and East Bay regions are incoming! “To an Ohio resident - wherever he lives - some other part of his state seems unreal.”
January 15, 20187 yr beautiful shots! it's very strange to see the salesforce tower in the skyline. it's probably too hulking for sf, but i like it. we have a friend and co-worker of my spouse who was an early salesforce adopter and became the top salesforce expert, so there is a petition to name a conference room for him in there, which is pretty funny. also, i noticed the graffiti guy seen on the left here in your #22 shot gets around -- he has recently popped up in my neighborhood:
January 18, 20187 yr Excellent stuff. Love love love the shot of Oakland/Bay Bridge/North Beach. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
January 19, 20187 yr Author ^It's hard to take a bad photo in SF... except of the Golden Gate Bridge apparently. I don't know if it's the International Orange's inherent brightness or the contrast of the bridge against the sky, or my poor technical skills, but almost all of my GGB photos came out blurry, unfortunately. Also, I resized all of the photos to a smaller size so that they're hopefully more visible/loading properly, in case anyone was having issues viewing any of the photos. “To an Ohio resident - wherever he lives - some other part of his state seems unreal.”
January 19, 20187 yr also, i noticed the graffiti guy seen on the left here in your #22 shot gets around -- he has recently popped up in my neighborhood: Os Gemeos! "The twins" from Brazil. I love their style. Didn't know about either of these. Thanks for posting.
January 29, 20187 yr Great shots of a beautiful city. I think SF has lost some of its mysticism for me since I've visited a fair amount in recent years, and I now have family living in the city, but it's still such a pretty place. I wish there was a more pronounced Black and Hispanic presence, though, as it has felt a bit sterile and white washed on recent visits, unfortunately. This is not to say there isn't grit to be found, especially with the high homeless population and all the trash and...'waste' they leave behind on the sidewalks and stuff. Thanks for sharing these photos!
