Posted March 17, 200619 yr Anyone know more about these townhomes? I could see the smoke from the fire all the way from I-271. From NewsNet5.com Flames Engulf Several New Homes On West Side Nobody Injured In Blaze CLEVELAND -- A fire broke out at an under-construction housing development on the city's west side, engulfing several of the new homes in flames. The fire broke out around 5 p.m. Thursday. The townhouses are located at West 53rd Street and Walworth Avenue, just south of Interstate 90. Within minutes, the flames spread out, engulfing the entire row of houses in flames. Firefighters at the scene were able to contain the flames quickly, and eventually put the fire out. Although they had to contend with wind during their battle, the winds from the north also protected another row of homes from catching fire. Firefighters were also able to keep the flames from spreading to a nearby factory. http://www.newsnet5.com/news/8068448/detail.html
March 17, 200619 yr These are visible from I-90 and there is another project next to it under construction. I don't know the developer. Interesting story..
March 17, 200619 yr Oh for the love of all that's holy - it was most likely hot tar from an earlier roofing job that ignited some construction material. Fires happen, even without human intervention sometimes. These were the second row of the townhomes at Ashbury Towers and only the framework was up so the row burned rather quickly. The developer is Ameri-Con and I'm sure they'll rebuild. Save the conspiracy theories for another time. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
March 17, 200619 yr The developer was saying on the news that they think they will be rebuilt( to point that they are now, I am assuming) within about 60 days. The fire crew said that the hot tar was the likely cause, as Mayday said.
March 17, 200619 yr Oh for the love of all that's holy - Mind if I use that quote sometime? This wasn't ins fraud, I read that they were selling pretty well.
March 17, 200619 yr I almost bought one of those townhomes. The decrepit looking building with the water tower on top used to be an old Hugo Boss factory, this structure is slated to be renovated to high end condos.
March 17, 200619 yr Wow, that's horrible! Is it just me or are more buildings in the midst of construction catching fire these days? I'm glad to hear that they'll rebuild. I hope the nearby homes that were damaged can also get their repairs done quickly...
March 17, 200619 yr ^ I'm glad to hear they will be rebuilt too. At least construction hadn't progressed too far on this phase; so the loss is not as substantial as it could have been.
March 20, 200619 yr It sucks that these townhomes caught fire, but it is GREAT news that they are going to rebuild, and even better news that ALL units in the first phase are sold. Fire strikes Westside home development By STAN BULLARD 8:45 am, March 20, 2006 Rebuilding plans were under way Friday at Ameri-Con Homes after a Thursday fire destroyed a six-unit townhouse under construction at Ashbury Towers, its 150-unit West Side subdivision. Jeffrey Simler, Ameri-Con vice president, said he was getting rebuilding bids Friday. www.plaindealer.com
March 20, 200619 yr I'm surprised, but happy, that all 26 units of phase 1 have sold. This development is certainly for urban pioneers. On a somewhat related note, how are sales at the other 2 ameri-con west side developments, puritas park and longmead village?
