Posted July 20, 20186 yr I did a search and didn't see a Knoxville thread so I started one. I was raised in East Tennessee and worked in Knoxville for a couple summers when I was younger. I still have family that live and work down there so I like to keep up on the news. I've never posted much on this site (even under my old username) so if I'm getting the format for posting news articles wrong then please let me know so that I can fix it. July 20, 20186 yr Author Growing business: Neighborhood farm launching in Knoxville Jeffry Turnmire has grown a backyard garden for all 14 years he’s lived in the 1300 block of Francis Road in Westavia Woods, but four years ago his field got a lot larger. Now his ambition for the land has too: it’s Knoxville’s first residential “market garden,” a step up from a roadside produce stand. https://www.knoxnews.com/story/money/business/2018/07/20/knoxville-market-garden-residential-farm-jeffry-turnmire/795545002/

July 20, 20186 yr Author Historic Cal Johnson building to get facelift after City Council approves PILOT A historic downtown building and a building with a vacant lot in the Old City both should be getting a facelift soon after the Knoxville City Council unanimously approved two payment in lieu of taxes agreements Tuesday night. In all, the projects, the Cal Johnson Building downtown and a lot across from the Old Knoxville High School on East Fifth Avenue, will uplift two segments of town and save the owners of the buildings an estimated $809,000 and $508,000 respectively. https://www.knoxnews.com/story/news/local/2018/07/19/cal-johnson-building-east-fifth-avenue-knoxville-tn/795155002/
July 20, 20186 yr Author I think this is a neat concept. It would be a nice place to grab dinner and a warm summer night. Nightlife: Central Filling Station food truck park fuels a fun night out Since early 2018, Central Filling Station has welcomed folks to the Happy Holler area with cold beer, lots of lawn games and plate after plate of delicious food. It’s a spot where you can simultaneously grab a quick bite and soak up the charm that has made Old North Knoxville such a thriving community, all while spending less than you would at most sit-down restaurants. Basically, it’s one of many reasons why I continue to fall more in love with our city. I initially mistook Central Filling for a lunch spot. It’s easy to do — the convenience and efficiency of food trucks go hand-in-hand with the lunch crowd. Plus, for a group of coworkers who constantly debate about where to go, it’s a minor miracle. The daily rotation of food trucks offers something for everyone. But when I finally stopped by for dinner and drinks, I realized that the park was an equally awesome option for a night out. https://www.knoxnews.com/story/entertainment/columnists/2018/07/19/knoxville-nightlife-central-filling-station-food-trucks-fuel-fun-night-out/792019002/

Some people have been laid off while some will be moving to new areas including jobs that will be new to the Knoxville office. Scripps Networks broadcast hub moving to Virginia Discovery Communications will move its pre-recorded transmission functions from Knoxville to Virginia, according to an internal memo, but the company will not disclose how many layoffs this and other moves will cause at the former Scripps Networks Interactive campus. “We expect this transfer to be complete by the end of January 2019,” Discovery Chief Technology Officer John Honeycutt wrote in the memo, sent out late Friday, July 20, and obtained by the News Sentinel. “All employees affected by this decision have been notified. July 24, 20186 yr ^Knoxville is a significant hub of cable TV production. There is a lot of editing there and production of true-crime reenactments. My brother worked for many years on the show Snapped, which is produced in Knoxville, and he and his wife often wear matching Snapped shirts around town. Around 2008, my grandmother's 1991 Grand Am (cream exterior, red interior) was the getaway car in a reenactment scene.
