I am not necessarily upset the main bar was demoed, more so that they claimed they would be back with a design for the location and never did it. The building could still be operating as a bar and would be perfectly fine. Commissioners need to stop allowing the idiots to just demo buildings if they don’t have renderings or plans in place.

Maybe Wood has a smaller position - Schiff I think is just out of the game entirely, and I say that in regards to all projects. No, Edwards wasn’t brought in until 2021. “Jim Merkel, co-founder and CEO of Rockbridge, said the team at Rockbridge is gearing up to tackle this "transformational," nearly $292 million project. The development team behind the effort now includes Jeff Edwards, CEO and president of the Edwards Cos., Merkel said. Other partners had included Schiff Capital Group and Wood Cos., which are now no longer partners but still have an “economic interest in the project,” Merkel said.“ https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2021/09/01/north-market-tower.html

April 15, 20241 yr I've been out of the loop and didn't even realize the North Market Tower had a new name. I was reading a CU article from 2022 on it and it seems like it will have 174 residences. Are these going to be condos, apartments, or both? Can't believe how long this has been going on, lol.

Pretty sure it’s all apartments. I think they are missing out by not having 2-3 floors of condo units. Edited April 15, 20241 yr by VintageLife

April 15, 20241 yr I feel like this would have been the perfect time to reinforce the roof of the north market to create a rooftop garden, not only to make the view look great, but to sell the crops at the market.
April 18, 20241 yr Did I miss them pushing this to 36, or is this a typo by nbc?? North Market construction: When market expansion and 36-story tower could open A 36-story tower remains under construction on the site of the former North Market parking lot, with it on schedule to open in the summer of 2026, Wolfe said. That’s after construction was initially stalled when it was discovered that the parking lot was built over top of a 19th-century cemetery and that not all the bodies had been moved by the time it had closed.

April 25, 20241 yr I can't believe we don't have a construction cam for this. I spent way too much time watching the Hilton construction cam.
April 25, 20241 yr Is this a concrete or steel structure? Regardless of the type, once they get above the more complex lower levels they will fly on the unit levels. I think the Hilton was pouring a floor every 5 or 6 days.

I haven't timed it, but it seems they add a new floor every week or week and a half.

I don't think Charlotte as a whole is something to aspire to - maybe just the skyline. It's much more car-centric than Columbus. Like any city, it has nice neighborhoods, but City Nerd calls it the world capital of sprawl. Columbus City density 4,109.64/sq mi, Urban Density 3,036.4/sq mi Charlotte City density 2,821.06/sq mi, Urban Density 2,098.3/sq mi

In bigger markets like Chicago or NYC, they can do that in about 3 days.

You're right about it being sprawling, but they do have light rail and trollies which would make some on this site giddy beyond belief. Rush hour traffic on 77 and 485 make 270 a picnic. So it should be pretty noticeable when the MLS all star game is in town. That will be awesome! Might even be able to see 100 High by that time, from certain angles in the stadium.

But, I think lots like these are great opportunities for high-scale growth!
June 27, 2024Jun 27 Some different looks from the Merchant You can see the AD apartments rising in the far distance in this last one
