We did find a great house in Cleveland Heights and will hopefully be closing this week. One of the first things we will need to set up at our new house is a fast internet connection for work. I've done quite a bit of research already on this topic, but I was hoping to get personal insights. I've read that AT&T Fiber is fast and should be available at my address, but I was hoping someone could share any persona experiences they have had with AT&T and their home internet services here in the area. If there is an alternative to AT&T's fast fiber speeds, please let me know. I'm looking for a balance between great speeds and a good price. Congrats on the house and welcome to the right side, er, Eastside of town!

Check and see if Cleveland Broadband is offered in the heights. I’ve had it for about a year now and it works great. https://www.clevelandbroadband.com/
June 19, 20195 yr I'm not in Cleveland Heights but I work from home and have ATT, just switched over a few months ago and am glad I did. No problems.

Why tier did you sign up for? Do you actually get the speeds that they advertise? I do a lot of video work, so I'm leaning towards the 1Gbps up/down tier for the speed and no data cap.
June 19, 20195 yr I think I'm in the medium tier. I don't do a lot of streaming, but I work online constantly loading webpages and it's been reliable 24/7 so far. I had Spectrum before this and it would randomly disconnect or take 30 seconds to reconnect all day and night and they could never solve the problems so I switched. We just got new fiber optic lines laid behind my apartment a couple years ago so I figured this would be an improvement. My partner has a thing that measures the internet speed and has randomly checked it and it usually exceeds what we were promised, so no complaints.

We had so many issues with spectrum. My wife switched us over three months ago to ATT and I almost even forgot about the internet because we never have a problem. I have a higher end gaming computer and every once in a while when I have time I do play video games online. I am only on the medium tier and I have zero issues. On top of that we use Youtube tv and other streaming devices simultaneously. ATT has been great.
June 19, 20195 yr Also, if helpful, we have like 8 connected devices and many of them operating simultaneously, and no problems.

January 16, 20223 yr I think this is the right thread for this. What would be the best neighborhood in Cleveland to move to for a young family? My wife and I have a 3 month old and two dogs.

Some are more family oriented than others and price points, lot size, transit options, etc. will vary by each, Old Brooklyn Shaker Square / Larchmere Detroit Shoreway/Gordon Square Ohio City Tremont Edgewater

January 17, 20223 yr Appreciate it, I lived in Tremont a few years ago. Though that was on the main strip and loved it. Price point would be $250,000-$30k.

I feel like that’s a tough price point in Cleveland right now with the market the way it is. It won’t get you much house in Tremont/Ohio City and possibly Detroit Shoreway at the moment. You can certainly get a nice place in Old Brooklyn but I think housing there is a riskier investment. I’ll throw in one wild card. I love Ukrainian Village in Parma. A lot of the same benefits as Old Brooklyn and (maybe) less of the risks/concerns.

As someone who grew up in Ukrainian Village I would have to strongly disagree. Yes it’s conveniently located for driving places and cheaper. But the house stock is meh, no diversity, no sense of community and no food spots. To each their own though. I think with that price point shaker square/larchmere or something that needs some TLC on the west side (Ohio city/Gordon square) would be a good option.

I will certainly defer to someone who grew up there but I’m surprised to hear you say no food spots. I guess no high end/hip restaurants but def a lot of interesting food shops, bars, etc. It also seems like the sidewalks are always busy during the summer and Veteran’s Park is great. I would def rather live in Ohio City or DS but I just don’t know what you’re getting in those places for $250 these days.

I learned the hard way when I thought I was getting it, and the tech installed copper DSL because the fiber, while in my area, couldn't be pulled to my address. Of course they never mentioned this and I didn't realize until my up/down speeds were like 2005. I ended up getting rid of that right away and getting Spectrum cable modem, and have been happy ever since (though I have to call and renegotiate a new promo rate every year).
January 17, 20223 yr Another thought, Knez has a ton of new construction homes throughout the city at around $300K and keeps adding properties and houses to the list. Here's a link to his website, and specifically single family homes: https://knez.net/homes/?status=-1&min-price=-1&max-price=999999999&min-size=-1&max-size=999999&beds=-1&baths=-1&garages=-1&type=2&plan=-1 EDIT: new construction in Cleveland city gets a 15 year tax abatement. January 17, 20223 yr I think $250k can get you a nice home in West Park if you are willing to move outside if Cleveland proper you still get nice homes in Lakewood for 250k. As a sort of a wildcard, you can look at North Collinwood North of Lakeshore in the beach communities. I'm not sure what schools are out that way though.
