December 14, 20213 yr Wow...way to COMPLETELY miss read what i said. I said "A"...as in a singular iconic tower....where did i say multiple???? I 100% agree with density and all of that. I love whats going on with the Scioto Peninsula, but the FACT still remains...when people drive through Columbus, the skyline is small to them. Like it or not. Again, Columbus needs an ICONIC tower in terms of HEIGHT in my honest opinion. If tomorrow, a proposal is released to the public that a 1000 ft tower is being built...there would be 500 people on here saying how awesome it is ...and you know it!!! If we are going to have these 25-40 story buildings being built, then we would need 25+ of them being built to make the skyline really jump out at you. That is NOT happening any time soon either. So in my opinion, its easier to change the skyline by building 1 iconic tower vs building 25+ buildings the same height over 30 years. Sorry, that's my opinion. You are entitled to your own opinions, but that doesn't make it a fact...just like mine!! I simply want a massive building to anchor the skyline... Edited December 14, 20213 yr by OhioFinest

Yea, we respectfully voiced our own opinions and then you downvoted us and typed out this overly defensive paragraph. Seems a bit over the top, don't you think?
December 14, 20213 yr I think we all know what you mean, @OhioFinest. We all would love to see a gleaming, 60-story building downtown - that's part of why we participate in forums like these. But that desire has to be tempered with the current realities of our downtown. Right now, activating the street-level and creating a more dense, urban environment are the greatest and most desired needs. Going back to Hilton 2.0, though - loving all the photo updates showing the impact the tower is making on the skyline. It's really going to be an amazing structure once all is said and done.
December 14, 20213 yr It's not just companies putting all their offices in the 'burbs due to Boomer mentalities -- even younger compaines that still locate in the core tend to move into sub-10-story buildings rather than rent out a few floors in the middle of a tower these days.
December 14, 20213 yr On topic....this Hilton doesn't do much to change the skyline....at all. But otherwise, its a beautiful structure, just doesn't do anything for height or the ability to stick out. Id rather Hilton just built one tower that was 25 stories taller, rather than two...but again, just my opinion.
December 17, 20213 yr The final slab was poured this morning and I happened to check the construction cam when the concrete pump was being removed. Not the greatest photo but you can see the freshly poured grey slab. The building is almost topped off!
December 17, 20213 yr 1 hour ago, OhioFinest said: Wow...so is this topped out then? Yes, more or less. The crown might extend a bit higher than the top of the elevator core though.
December 19, 20213 yr Amazing views! Especially that view looking up High Street through the SN. The area is nearly unrecognizable from 5 years, and is even more unrecognizable from 10-15 years ago. SN in 2008: SN in 2017: SN in 2021: Seeing this view makes me want to book a night here once it's open, lol
December 19, 20213 yr I forgot that this tower one was going to be substantially taller than the original one opposite it. It’s a nice addition to the Columbus skyline. Will be interesting to see the North Market tower and it’s contribution as well.

Some commenters were complaining the vantage point of my photo didn’t match the others…😐

But I'm flattered one of you stole my post ;) lol It's surprise that people on Reddit would be complaining about something as petty as that. I actually just checked out the thread, and it's mostly just people complaining. I guess that's why I only ever check out r/Columbus to see if anyone has posted any cool pictures. If not, I get the heck outta there.
December 21, 20213 yr Apparently my post was not only taken by a Reddit user, but it's now made it's way to the onlyincbus Instagram account, lol. https://www.instagram.com/p/CXvw71erEmO/ Poor @Pablonot even getting the photo creds he deserves!

December 21, 20213 yr OSU football fan twitter accounts are now picking this up. It is now apparent that we can truly change the city with just one post on here, lol
December 21, 20213 yr Pretty interesting article the Dispatch ran last week that talks about the progress on the tower and the state of events in Cbus, and it also includes some neat pictures: Do you work for the Dispatch, @Pablo? Here's a sneak peek from atop new 28-story Hilton Downtown hotel tower “Despite stubborn COVID variants that show no sign of waiving a white flag, convention center officials speak fairly confidently about the future because conventions typically are booked far in advance. And next year year's calendar is substantially set. They predict business will return almost to pre-COVID numbers, including the payday "citywide conventions," those that book 1,000 or more rooms at two or more hotels, while simultaneously booking meeting, dining and exhibit rooms in the convention center's 373,000 square feet of potentially contiguous exhibit space and 75 "breakout" meeting rooms.” https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/2021/12/16/publicly-owned-hilton-jump-start-convention-center-2022-business/6298931001/

January 7, 20223 yr Some info on the design of the restaurants in the Hilton tower, courtesy of 614 Now: From a two-story restaurant to a 28th-floor rooftop bar, here are the food and drink concepts coming to the new Downtown Hilton tower “By the time it’s completed–likely by early fall this year–the new Hilton Columbus Downtown tower will offer a handful of exciting new bars, restaurants and markets to both out of towners and Columbus foodies alike. One of the centerpieces of the new build is FYR, a two-story restaurant that will feature a wood-burning grill in the center of the eatery. And if two stories plus a live grill aren’t enough excitement for you, how about a 28th-floor rooftop bar with panoramic views of Columbus? Stories on High will offer drinks and small plates from a separate kitchen, in addition to lookout decks offering premium views of the city. “It’s the highest sky bar in the area, and you can see everything: OSU, downtown and more,” Coffin said. “Looking down Nationwide [Boulevard], you can see the three stadiums all in a row. You know they’re there, but seeing them from that point of view is so unique.” The new Hilton tower will also feature Spark, a lobby bar with an innovative new mixology program, and The Market, a grab-and-go spot offering sundries, sandwiches, salads and more, with direct access to the Greater Columbus Convention Center.” https://614now.com/2022/food-drink/from-a-two-story-restaurant-to-a-28th-floor-rooftop-bar-here-are-the-food-and-drink-concepts-coming-to-the-new-downtown-hilton-tower
January 16, 20223 yr Went to a happy hour at Goodale Station rooftop Friday after work and snapped a few photos of the progress. I wish I could have gotten one in my uber from the other side, the glass and cladding is really coming along from the highway!!! You can also see the elevator cores in the distance at the James Hospital expansion.
January 22, 20223 yr Sorry for the poor picture quality, but it seems like the new Hilton has topped out.
January 24, 20223 yr Saw this pic on the Crew's subreddit by @RedHawk Droneand figured I'd post it here since it shows how the mostly topped-out Hilton Tower fits into the skyline. Can't wait to see North Market Tower standing next to it!

Definitely looks like the crown gained a floor since the rendering -- but that could also mean that it was stolen from one of the "regular" floors below it if we haven't seen any official addition of height to this project since it started

In the final version, the crown slopes up to be taller at the south end, so those concrete columns grow as well.
January 28, 20223 yr Not sure if this will work, but Columbus Underground took this live video of their tour of the Hilton. Pretty cool views. January 28, 20223 yr The link worked for me, thanks for sharing. Really some awesome views from that hardhat tour. Can't wait for the top floor restaurant and bar to be complete to partake of those views myself!

It’ll be great to watch the NMT rising right across the street!
February 1, 20223 yr Author Hard Hat Tour: 28-Story Hilton Hotel Tower The 28-story tower rising next to the Greater Columbus Convention Center has been topped out and is on track to open in late August, about three years after a groundbreaking ceremony was held at the site. The project has been described since it was first proposed as an expansion of the Hilton Columbus Downtown, which sits at 401 N. High St. The new, $255 million building will connect to the older building via the existing walkway over High Street. Together, the two buildings will hold 1,000 hotel rooms and contain a total of 858,000 square feet of space. A recent tour of the project revealed a busy construction site. Chris Coffin, General Manager of the hotel, said that about 300 workers are on site daily, working in three shifts. The façade mostly goes up at night, Coffin added, so that he often looks up upon arriving to work in the morning and sees that more of the building has been covered (it’s up to about the 24th floor now). February 6, 20223 yr I was out yesterday and was able to snap a progress picture from Goodale Park/Park Street. This view in a few years will have North Market Tower as well!! Exciting development times here in Columbus with only continual momentum and more skyscrapers to come!!!
February 7, 20223 yr 14 hours ago, 614love said: Will the tower have any lighting at night? Yes. Per the approved Downtown Commission application, the top of the tower will have lighting on the tops of the vertical mullions as well as some illuminated Hilton signage. There will be more street-level lighting elements as well, at the entrance canopy and along High Street.
February 19, 20223 yr Snapped this last night. I thought it was pretty cool with every floor lit up. Sorry about my dirty windshield. Edited February 19, 20223 yr by Kriegs
