Slightly off topic, but did you guys happen to notice anything at the Market Tower site? I'm a little more worried about that one actually happening now with how crazy the economy has become.

Nothing. Parking lot operations are still normal as of last weekend when I went by. I can't speak for any day to day details like more core testing or not.

I didn't take the time to seek out/look, and I should have because I did stop in at North Market to pick up my much missed cheese I used to grab at the end of my work week haha  I've volunteered to be part of phase 1 for my office building to return, so I will be down there much more in a few weeks to watch for activity.

Went on a little construction tour yesterday and grabbed some progress images.

I really hope they put up a construction cam for this project once they actually get some above ground work going. Although, if they do, I will be wasting a lot of time watching that and the Crew Stadium construction cam...

The permits hit the FAA this morning. 

 

I was slightly off in my scaling, to my surprise and excitement the total hight will clock in at 361' tall!

 

Additionally, the crane permits were filed! They will be using a 407' tower crane with a permit start of 7/1/2020. Doesn't mean that it will be up 7/1 but that means it should be going up soon.

Good! This will mean that it will be at least 328 feet from ground level and be the 15th building in Columbus over 100 meters tall. We have not had another one in over 25 years I believe.

Very exciting! I wish there were 4-5 others being built as well. It would be so cool if the original North Market Tower was being built simultaneously!

Depending on the timing of things (assuming Market Tower does get built), I think we could see Market Tower getting started while this tower is wrapping up. It would definitely be cool to see.

Hopefully this means they will be building the crane soon. Sometimes the bases gets installed but the crane isn't actually built for another month or two.

Arguably, that could have been installed pre-decision about stalling building B and it's just going to wait there until they decide to resume that work.

I mean, it will definitely be there unused for longer now because of corona, but it had been installed at the same time as the others and had already sat unused for a while before corona.

So I was trying to find a construction cam for this project when I stumbled across a proposal from NBBJ that was not selected. I'm very glad it wasn't chosen, but they had some interesting ideas.

I wouldn’t be all that mad if this rendering was built in the lot on the north side of the convention center though.

Yes that lot along Goodale is just begging for something like this-especially with the garage being right next to it. Maybe a combo hotel with condos/apts on top? Also right on High at the edge of the Short North and with proximity to the rest of downtown. Such a nice location IMO.

I didn’t think about condos/apts but yeah that would be great. I’m sure it will get developed eventually, just hope it’s something with some good height

I imagine it would have to have some decent height based on the relatively small size of the lot. It's actually pretty similar to the footprint of the Hilton 2.0 tower.

I would hope that when that lot is developed it will be a project that would have a bare minimum of 15 floors. Hopefully more. That lot could be developed with at least a 20,000 square foot building "footprint" if not a bit more than that. I think that space is about 300 feet long and varies from about 75-80 feet wide closest to High to over 125 feet wide near the parking garage. The parking garage already in place is a huge benefit. And they could always squeeze in another small parking garage for the Convention Center somewhere on the eastern side of it. I think it is a great location on High, adjacent to the Arena District and inbetween the bulk of downtown and the Short North. You also have the Cbus  circulator going right by it. 

 

Also by being set back over 100 feet east of High it would not necessarily block the views down High from the Joseph north of it or the views up High from the Convention Center Hotel to the south of it.

I was just at the copy/printer machine in my office, which overlooks the site, and there was at least one large semi-truck with the large blue crane body laying on it's side.  My guess is the crane will be going up rather soon based on this observation.  Nothing all that surprising, but just a little update for y'all.

My guess is it'll go up either tomorrow or Sunday when they can easily close down the ROW for a few hours.

I'll also add there have been concrete trucks lined up in a row all week long down below at the below street High Street grade pouring what seems like nonstop concrete, so I'm guessing they are shoring up much of the foundation area now after all of the below grade work they've been doing for months.

Given the current state of activity along High Street, it would probably be easier to get ROW closure on a weekday than it ever would have been on a quiet Sunday evening before Covid came around. 

 

You are probably right though, I'm guessing it will be tomorrow or Sunday.

Completely agree. It had been quite a drought as far as progress on new or proposed developments were concerned, to an extent. Obviously much of it was due to extenuating circumstances which is completely understandable, but still, it gets to you. Really happy to see the Hilton tower proceeding as planned.

I drove past Gravity 2.0 site this morning on my normal commute in on Broad and there was significant earth movement taking place finally.

Agree with all the positive stories breaking today that we really needed it. This board has been somewhat dead recently and I stopped coming here (sorta) just to clear mental space for my Covid concerns, among other things. Glad I chose today to stop on by. I was just driving across town on 670.  The crane isn't done yet, but it is up above the existing Hilton and is VERY visible from 670.

How much taller will this crane get? In the renderings it looks like the new building is slightly taller than the original Hilton.

This crane will grow to 407 feet. The tower will be 361 feet.

I have no idea. I’ve only seen it in the pictures that have been posted here. I would guess about 200 feet though. 

The crane is now visible on the panorama view of the crew stadium construction cam. The panorama and HD panorama are only updated once daily, but they will provide a nice view of the construction progress once the tower rises above the existing Hilton.
