July 12, 20204 yr I believe this is the device that will allow the crane to grow. It will lift the tower crane to allow a section of the crane to be inserted. Note the hydraulics. I’ll bet once the crane gets to a certain height it will be tied off to the new building.

I think this will be the first one since the Wexner was built.

I believe Hilton 1.0 also had a climbing crane, although that was a couple years before WMC. Before that, I think the last one was probably the North Bank Condos. I don’t think the Children’s hospital tower had one and I don’t think the Riverside Hospital addition hasn’t one either.

North Bank for sure did, I worked as a valet across the street during that construction. Hilton 1.0 may have, don't remember the construction of that one too well. Children's may have but if you're talking about the recent addition to Riverside it did not have one. If you're talking about the heart hospital addition it may have but I remember it being attached to the original building.

There was a ton of ground level work that had to be done for this project. I’m guessing we will finally start to see some rapid vertical action now.

This project is going to be like the duck on water analogy for the next couple of months. Yea the elevator core will rise above the water but the foundation will be paddling like crazy underneath it. Going to be a very cool project to watch, mainly because we don’t get a ton of subterranean action in Cbus.
October 11, 20204 yr I would like to reiterate the point that this project needs a construction cam. Someone needs to make this happen!

December 4, 20204 yr I don't remember those A/C units on the Convention Center sticking out like that before. Were they on the ground where the Hilton is being built? Will they be attached out of the way to the Hilton building when it's done? edit: they must have been in this little green enclosure previously. https://www.google.com/maps/@39.9708567,-83.0023506,3a,75y,89.41h,85.11t/data=!3m8!1e1!3m6!1spe2A5CfwiOMrqD6DHJbs1g!2e0!5s20190701T000000!6s%2F%2Fgeo0.ggpht.com%2Fcbk%3Fpanoid%3Dpe2A5CfwiOMrqD6DHJbs1g%26output%3Dthumbnail%26cb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile.gps%26thumb%3D2%26w%3D203%26h%3D100%26yaw%3D9.85094%26pitch%3D0%26thumbfov%3D100!7i16384!8i8192 Edited December 4, 20204 yr by GCrites80s

Are you talking about the left side of the second picture right along the side of the convention center? If so, it might be tough to tell, but those are actually concrete podiums as part of the construction. Edited December 4, 20204 yr by TH3BUDDHA
December 4, 20204 yr I think that he may be referencing the units in the earlier post on October 23rd.
December 4, 20204 yr Thats correct. A couple of the handlers were moved from the green building to the front temporarily. Thats why the sidewalk was closed long before we saw alot of action on site. I've recopied pertinent photos from other posts.

December 4, 20204 yr Sorry, quoting individual pictures out of a series often doesn't turn out well for me. I lose my cursor a lot.
December 4, 20204 yr Yea, placing the temporary units on the front like that was an... interesting choice. Especially considering the nothing going on in the convention center at the moment. I'm curious why they haven't stripped back the orange façade from where the new building will abut... Maybe that'll be done later? Maybe they're leaving it as relic? Considering it's the addition of the building and not a neighbor I can't believe they're going to leave an air gap there...?

From the exterior rendering video it looks like they will be keeping a gap the two buildings, except for the connector hallway.

Exactly this! If you changed the glazing to a blue or light grey and applied an aluminum facade to the podium or dropped the glass down.... this building could look amazing. It is just unfortunately stuck in a not quite brutalism but also not quite post modernism blah spot as it stands. Edited December 23, 20204 yr by DevolsDance

I think it was taken from the top of the Beacon Building which used to stand at the northeast corner of W Long and Marconi. Surprisingly, the two buildings framing the view are still there.

That looks like an early 1970s Ford Ranchero! OK, back on topic: The Hilton is starting to make its presence known. I heard steel will begin in late February/early March.

Hopefully the weather stays mild and dry so they can keep plugging away.

January 29, 20214 yr I drove by today as well. I apologize if my windshield was a bit dirty.....in a weird way, the 3rd floor of the 2.0 looks almost at the height of the 6-7th floor of the 1.0 in comparison across High Street from each other. I'm more excited to see the angular and elaborate glass curtain/wrap portrayed in the renderings of the High street frontage area and "atrium" area..... Edited January 29, 20214 yr by Gnoraa

February 9, 20214 yr It's a little difficult to capture but the buildings presense is making itself known as you travel south over the 3rd Street viaduct.
February 11, 20214 yr My one true hope is some sort of dynamic lighting on the building.. up the sides of the building for street presence but especially along the top. Make it stand out among the skyline like the leveque.
