February 8, 201312 yr I'm curious how they crammed 2 bdrm/2 bath into a 666 sq ft apartment. My current OTR apartment is 675 sq ft and 1 bdrm/1 bath. Tiny rooms?
February 8, 201312 yr The entire street level facade has been removed from the building and the first floor has been opened up. pics? though I'm going to be up that way tonight... I'll take some night shots.
February 8, 201312 yr twitter.com/otrcincy has a pic derp. should have looked there first! Looks weird with the face missing!
February 9, 201312 yr full article on Grammer's Place 47 apartments coming to OTR http://news.cincinnati.com/article/AB/20130208/BIZ/302080053/47-apartments-coming-OTR
February 12, 201312 yr I just noticed there is a lot of activity going on at the former Christian Moerlein building on Elm St at Henry today. Cherry pickers are being used to move material to the upper floors.
February 12, 201312 yr Also today it looks like there is some streetscape work happening around 13th/Main. Some dump trucks and heavy machinery on site. Anyone know what's up?
February 12, 201312 yr Main Street is having curb cuts replaced with ADA compliant ones. I know a new tenant (startup brewery, Rhinegeist) is moving into a portion of the old Moerlein/KD Lamp building, not sure if this build out is for them.
February 12, 201312 yr Main Street is having curb cuts replaced with ADA compliant ones. Any idea why this is being done right now? Is it part of the casino-related streetscape improvements or just a routine upgrade that the city is doing?
February 12, 201312 yr Was utility work done on some of those side streets as routine updates? If significant damage is done during utility work, the utility is obligated to rebuild any curbing, pavement and/or sidewalks to ADA-compliant conventions. The city also has its street rehabilitation program, which is more than a repaving of a street - it involves new or rebuilt curbing, pavement and/or sidewalks.

February 13, 201312 yr I just noticed there is a lot of activity going on at the former Christian Moerlein building on Elm St at Henry today. Cherry pickers are being used to move material to the upper floors. Is that where the Streetcar barn will be? Also I heard a new brewery might be going in there.
February 13, 201312 yr It's for the brewery. ... OTR's Cogswell Building gets new life Construction on one of Over-the-Rhine’s 19th century buildings will soon be finished, and will open up new office space for members of the community. Rehabilitation began on the Cogswell Building in November and should be completed by March. http://www.soapboxmedia.com/devnews/021213.cogswellbuildingrehab.aspx
February 13, 201312 yr “I hope the building will bring more people to Sycamore,” Feghali says. “It’s a weird street, with only a few blocks of inhabited buildings. The Cogswell is on the corner, and you can see it from quite a distance.” That's a good point about Sycamore. With a school and playground across the street from an underutilized park, and lots of parking lots to the north and south, there's not much activity on Sycamore. Maybe some life will be injected into the area when the old SCPA turns into apartments, but something will need to be done about all of the parking lots for it to start feeling like an actual urban street.
February 13, 201312 yr Addressing the disaster which is Ziegler Park and the uncertain future of the Peaslee Center will be something the City and OTR stakeholders will have to undertake in the not too distant future.
February 13, 201312 yr Addressing the disaster which is Ziegler Park and the uncertain future of the Peaslee Center will be something the City and OTR stakeholders will have to undertake in the not too distant future. Not to beat a dead horse, but yesterday I was stopped in traffic on 13th due to a CRAZY amount of loitering in/around the park. I look to my right and there's a guy on the sidewalk lighting up a crack pipe in broad daylight...at 1:30...on a Tuesday. Numerous others were openly drinking alcohol. I have never once seen a CPD officer in this area.
February 14, 201312 yr I heard some rumblings yesterday and over the last few days that 4EG has officially bought Weilert's or is in the process of buying it. I know they said they were eying it a while ago, but I've heard it's now officially happening.
February 14, 201312 yr I've heard similar rumblings about Weilert's. I'm very sure that this is happening.
February 14, 201312 yr I have not seen any mention of this yet...expect a bakery on the 1300 block of Vine Street.
February 14, 201312 yr Green building on Vine Street between Kroger and the Paint Building. One of THE BEST structures in OTR!
February 16, 201312 yr That would be great. Where? I'm racking my brain, and I don't know that there's a ton of storefronts. Maybe up there past the dry cleaner but before Tyger Calloway?
February 19, 201312 yr ^This is the best news I've heard in a while! That makes me immensely happy. Any schedule as to when it's coming down? I want to be there to watch it removed haha.
July 26, 201311 yr Author Love draws couple to restore OTR's Crown Building Written by John Faherty Kim Starbuck and Kevin Pape used to sit at the red tables on the western end of Findlay Market outside of Dojo Gelato, eat their affogatos, and talk. Already married for 23 years, their children already grown, sometimes they would dream about the ways they might be able to make a difference in the city where they grew up and in the neighborhood they had come to love. One day, back in 2010, enjoying their gelato and espresso, everything came into focus. http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20130726/NEWS10/307260037?nclick_check=1
July 27, 201311 yr On 700WLW this morning there was mention of a new restaurant and 10 new condos at 14th/Republic, I couldn't catch the name of the restaurant though unfortunately. Anyone have any links?
July 27, 201311 yr Salazar, being opener by Jose Salazar, former head chef of the palm court. EDIT: Woops, I meant the palace.

July 27, 201311 yr Lemme guess: the usual suspects will post instagrams of construction, be there opening night, post countless instagrams of them there for the next four months, until the next new place opens, and the cycle repeats.
July 28, 201311 yr I post twit pics (not instagrams) of construction. But I don't end up eating at the various OTR eateries as much as I would like. Still haven't been to Kaze yet! I do like Quan Hapa a lot though.
July 29, 201311 yr I noticed that they were tearing down the playground in Ziegler Park today. Anyone know what the plan is for it? I'm assuming they are putting in new equipment. At least I hope they are.
July 31, 201311 yr Has anyone else noticed the construction in the commercial space of the Hamilton County owned garage on Sycamore? I've been curious since it started over a month ago and finally did some digging - according to cagis it looks as if OTR may be getting its first Subway. I had hoped for something more grand.... http://cagis.hamilton-co.org/opal/apd.aspx?entcode=cinc&ezstdadrtag=1123||SYCAMORE|ST||||CINC|CINC|00750004022801123S|007500040228|007500040228|CINCINNATI&APD=2013P03529
July 31, 201311 yr A Subway in OTR? That doesn't sound like an equation for success. May be greedy, but it's also something I really don't want to last long. Over the Rhine shouldn't be home to fast food chains. It's better than that.
July 31, 201311 yr I've been told they are replacing the playground equipment with better equipment being removed from LeBlond on Riverside (which is having its own renovation/improvements).
July 31, 201311 yr Oh come now jmicha, even the most beautiful European downtowns have the occasional McDonalds or 7-11. It doesn't have to be an all or nothing proposition. If a chain wants to go in, that's fine, they just have to play by the rules of the neighborhood (obey the sign ordinances, occupy one of the existing buildings tastefully, etc.).
July 31, 201311 yr ^Haha, that's fair. I guess if it's going to be a chain I would just want something a little...better. There are some chains which I think could fill some voids in the market of OTR, but Subway is just so...cheap. And not meaning inexpensive, meaning the finish quality of their stores just isn't very good and isn't at all aesthetically pleasing. Does Subway ever deviate from their typical finishes when building in historical areas?

And not meaning inexpensive, meaning the finish quality of their stores just isn't very good and isn't at all aesthetically pleasing. Does Subway ever deviate from their typical finishes when building in historical areas? My thoughts exactly. The loss of Mayberry on Main leaves us with a diner, 2 pizza joints...and now a Subway on the Main/Sycamore St side of OTR. A world apart from the Race/Vine St side, not that that is a completely bad thing. At least its not another "convenience store"
July 31, 201311 yr ^You are leaving out a couple options such as Iris and Park & Vine, but I agree that the east side of OTR could use some more eateries. I think a casual sandwich place would fit in well but something a little more unique than Subway would be preferable.
July 31, 201311 yr The Port OTR is aiming to be a casual sandwich shop--but I don't know if that's going to be more near Vine or on Main.
July 31, 201311 yr ^Have they picked a spot? I thought they were still doing a lot of preliminary stuff trying to raise awareness and funding to pick a spot and open a place. I haven't been keeping up to date with them though.
August 1, 201311 yr Another pizza place, Goodfellas, is planning on moving into Mayberry's location. Same set up as in mainstrasse with the pizzeria below and a Wise Guys lounge up above. The one in Covington is really nice and has a cool outdoor area. Plus it's one of the few smoke free bars in Covington.

I wonder if Subway will even stay open late, or if they are mainly trying to serve the 9-5 crowd that works within 2 blocks of that location.
