131 E McMicken Ave proposal is up on the latest HCB packet. Shows a rendering of new 1 story infill next to Roadtrippers HQ (can't tell if it will cover up the cheers to beer murual painted on the wall).

The concept looks very cool. The infill is a large glass green house, and the adjacent grass lot appears to be a beer garden filled with trees and a large canopy. Very neat concept.

Hopefully this section of McMicken will be gradually clean up by the time this venture opens. If you look on shot spotter most of the north liberty crimes have begun to congregate on this street since the closure of findlay playground.

It does not cover the "Revival" mural, the glass conservatory sits to the east.

Wow. That's an awesome looking place. That's going to be a serious draw into that area. I would imagine it'll be a catalyst for spin off development around it to happen, kind of like with Rhinegeist (to a smaller extent).

One thing I really miss since moving away from the Midwest is that because land is so expensive (here in NYC) it's essentially impossible to make building something like this work financially. You sometimes get backyards or roof tops, but there's something about a large, ground floor outdoor bar that's special and not something I ever imagined would stick out as something I really miss about Cincinnati.

When I was in Europe, one of my favorite resturaunts to go to was this outside resturaunt garden. Huge pine trees, wonderful decor with string lights and fire pits, live outdoor bandstand music on weekends. It was always packed in the summer nights.

Ive always wondered if a concept like this could work in Cincy. Sometimes I think how cool it would be if Washington Park had an outdoor resturaunt on the weekends.

There is already a beer garden in Washington Park and you can get take out from a nearby restaurant and grab a beer and eat in the park. We do it all the time and it is quite lovely.

Agreed. Though I wish there were a Sartre/Rhinegeist system of pneumatic tubes connecting Washington Park to the Vine St restaurants for insta-delivery ?

I've very excited for the Somerset space on E McMicken. Looks like a gorgeous design with the glass "conservatory" roof and two outdoor spaces: the smaller courtyard next to the big mural, and the larger "event lawn". I wonder if they intend to make the space available for weddings and private events. They don't have any kitchen equipment in the kitchen/back bar, but they do specify a location for accommodating a food truck.

You think that playground is haunted? With all the shootings and deaths that happened their you have to imagine it might be.

Apperantly The Rook has shut down.

Shame, one of the more enjoyable bars in otr. Wonder what happened that could have caused the sudden closure?

Oh no, that's one of the few bars I actually enjoy in OTR...

Still waiting for confirmation. Nothing is posted on their door yet, and nothing is mentioned about closure on Facebook or their website.

That said, it will be indeed sad if it's true.

Article on the business courier says they are looking for new owners. Hopefully someone buys it quickly.

Met a great couple on Saturday who were visiting Cincinnati from Canada asking for directions to a resturaunt in otr.

They were in their late 20's and we're traveling to some nearby US Cities (Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Indy) and Cincy was last on their stop before heading.

They had really nice things to say about Cincy! They were staying at an Airbnb in otr and got to check out taste of cincy and alot of the otr entertainment options.

They said as a city as a whole Chicago was their favorite. But they said otr as a neighborhood was probably the best neighborhood they visited in all of the cities they had visited and one of the most unique neigborhoods they've been to in the states. They also mentioned the view from their

It was really great speaking with then and they said they would share their experience and recommend more people from their social circle to Cincy and OTR when they return back.

It's great to see word of mouth continue to spread about otr!

Here's how Model Group has shaped the retail landscape around Findlay Market

Quote

Model Group has completed two phases of its Market Square redevelopment since 2015 in the blocks surrounding Findlay Market. That's included 91 apartments, 11 market-rate condos and 20 commercial spaces with a total of 72,000 square feet of office and retail space. The developer invested $21 million in Phase 1 of the project and $26 million in Phase 2.

Hooray for piles of poop and leg humping.

Here's hoping phase 4 is infill for those Findley market surface lots.

Hoping for a mixed use project with underground parking similar to 3cdc otr projects

Model does not own those lots, the City/Corporation for Findlay Market does.

Though at least one other large parking lot nearby will become the county's structured parking deck as part of the FCC deal.

The only thing fitting the definition of “parking lot” in the area that would possibly be big enough for a garage is the semi truck trailer parking lot on the northwest corner of Findlay Street and Central Parkway. Which I think would be a good location for one

The building at 1707 Race St. is about 7,000 square feet. Custom Pro Logistics will be moving about two dozen employees from its current space at 139 W. McMicken Ave. to the Race Street building. The company moved into Over-the-Rhine in February of 2016, leasing about 1,600 square feet of space.

Custom Pro Logistics purchased the previously vacant building from Cincinnati Center City Development Corp. Construction started in March 2018.

The dog grooming place.

So we're turning over space in a historic district to creatures who can't possibly appreciate it.

Well to be fair, I think a lot of the people who currently live and play in OTR (more the latter group) don't appreciate how unique it is either.

I hesitated in responding because I honestly can't tell if you're being sarcastic or sincere. If you're just being sarcastic, fine. Wuf Pet Spa is opening at 1812 Race St only opening because because residents (humans!) live in and appreciate the historic district. There is no sense in which humans are "turning over" the neighborhood to dogs. Many of my neighbors have dogs and it makes the neighborhood a place people want to live.

(I have no idea if their business will succeed. I'm a dog-owner in OTR and I'm perfectly happy to give my dog showers at home so I doubt I'll be one of their customers. As a resident, I'm just glad to see a previously vacant storefront occupied.)

Urban dogs can become quite a nuisance, quickly. All it takes is one careless owner refusing to clean up after their pet, and in a "broken windows theory" style escalation entire neighborhoods can become covered in feces. Hopefully the sort of person that takes their dog to a posh groomer isn't the sort of person who refuses to pick up poop, but I've seen stranger things.

You can set up a dog-oriented business in the breakroom of an abandoned warehouse and it will have a million people in and out of it all the time. You cannot go wrong location-wise. Appalachia is full of people breeding dogs and getting people to drive from Cleveland to Lawrence County daily.

Suburbanites? /S

if the owners do allow their pets to take a two on the streets of OTR, the people will enjoy the unique atmosphere OTR, and the pets will enjoy marking the neighborhood up. Happy pets. happy owners

Seriously?  There are tons of dogs already in downtown in in OTR and the area has not turned into a "neighborhood covered in feces."

My street, near the border of OTR and CUF is covered in feces as we speak. It can happen fast - all it takes is one person letting their poop fester, and others soon follow suit. So far as I can tell, it's not explicitly illegal to not clean up after your pet, despite the fact it's pretty unsanitary.

Sec. 701-30. - Dog Excrement Removal.

No person shall allow a dog under his or her control to be upon public property or upon the property of another, absent the consent of the owner or occupant of the property, without some device for the removal and containment of such dog's excrement; nor shall any person fail to remove any excrement deposited by any dog under his or her control on public or private property.

This section shall not apply to guide dogs under the control of a blind person.

The maximum fine is $25, which seems a little low, but it's still illegal.

BRING YOUR DOG TO OTR TO DROP A DEUCE TODAY

34 Greene St, the long 2 story non historic building, that takes up a whole block is being request for demolition by Findley Land Investors LLC in the latest HCB.

The current building is very ugly and a new development would be very welcome at that location.

It would be great to see that building torn down and replaced by a 5 story building with ground floor retail and 4 stories of apartments or condos above. Since all of the other buildings at that corner are 4-5 stories tall, that would be an appropriate scale.

Sugar n' Spice adding second location in iconic OTR space

Beloved Paddock Hills restaurant Sugar n' Spice is expanding to a second location with plans to open in an iconic Over-the-Rhine space later this year.

Sugar n' Spice, which has built a cult following over nearly 80 years of business at 4381 Reading Road, will open its second location in the former Joe's Diner on Sycamore space at 1203 Sycamore St. in Over-the-Rhine. The goal is to open in time for the winter holidays.

How much money have investors lost at that corner over the past 35 years?

Sugar 'N Spice should kill at that location. Only gripe is the 7a-3p schedule. Tack on a 10p-2a on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights.

It's about time! Now if 1113 Sycamore can get out of the ground, Sycamore may actually start becoming a more interesting street!

Yeah considering Amazon treats their white-collar workers just as bad as their blue-collar ones and keeps them on-site and mostly unable to spend money in the neighborhood due to the long hours and in-sourced food, one restaurant probably is better. Ask people around Seattle how little Amazon has done for the street life of its neighborhoods. They are not like say, the insurance companies that make Hartford Connecticut so vibrant and help local business owners also make a lot of money.

Wow couldn't ask for a better restaurant to take that diner space.  I've been waiting years for someone smart to open up there and now it's going to be the second location for one of the better breakfast locations in the city.  With the owner being pretty young I don't think it will take very long for them to figure out opening late on the weekends would be a huge money maker.

I will eat there. A lot. And every time I am going to ask them to have late night hours.

Five blocks of Sycamore already has Ziegle PArk, Ziegler Pool, Alumni Lofts 142 Units, a 500 car underground garage, Nicola's, The Peaslee Center, my new building and the proposed 1113 project. I'm not sure where there is more going on anywhere.

As for nighttime hours at the Diner, it will never happen.
