Groups sponsor designs for Over-the-Rhine

BY LUCY MAY | CINCINNATI BUSINESS COURIER

January 16, 2008

OVER-THE-RHINE - Local architects will lead students, planners and other interested members of the public in a design "charrette" Saturday to explore the possibilities for new, residential construction in Over-the-Rhine.

^

I'll be helping lead one of the teams, so I'll be there.

It should be a good time, but only if we get good participation from the public.  We architects can't do it all  :-D

We're hopefully going to exhibit the results at a later date as well, but no details yet.

Sounds Good!

Be sure to mention how great the streetcar would be for the area

Don't remember seeing this anywhere else but Pendleton is getting a new furniture store.  Should be open soon.

Joseph Williams Home

550 Reading Road, Cincinnati, OH 45202

We are a new urban lifestyle furniture store, offering rugs, lighting, art, decorative mirrors, and other unique home accessories.

We are located on Reading Road in the Pendleton Arts District.  Parking is available in our lot and on the street.

^I heard about it, and actually received an evite to attend a preview party for the new store.  I expect it to be pretty cool...unfortunately I won't be able to attend.

Same here,  I hope they do well.

I'll be at the preview party for BuyCincy, so I'll be sure to come back and give first impressions.

Three penthouses unveil this week

January 22, 2008 | DOWNTOWNER

OVER-THE-RHINE - The developers Central Park Properties are unveiling their three finished penthouses at the American Building this Saturday, Jan. 26.

A tour will be held to showcase these penthouses from noon3 p.m.; the tour will be open to the public.

John Perazzo and Mark Krone, two of the three partners of Central Park Properties, will be on site to greet people and discuss the renovation process of the Art Deco structure while they show off the top five floors of the 17-story building.

According to a release, the most extravagant of the three units to be open Saturday is the three-story unit, encompassing the entirety of three floors.  All three condominiums have been totally completed and are ready for occupancy.

Thanks for the news, Randy. I will definitely go check those out. I had a tour of the penthouses before the construction was finished, and they were already very impressive. The pictures below were taken from the 13th floor.

Mark Glove, I can see you.

whatever happened to mark glove?

He's still logged in and viewing this thread.  Tormenting us.

Remember in Predator when the Native American guy [billy I think] called the Predator out on the log bridge.  that was awesome.  someone should do that with mark glove.

^ LOL!  Yeah, but that means that mark glove would have to kill one of us!  I'm not signing up for that duty...

I'm trying to think of Predator lines that make sense, but none spring to mind.

How about:

I ain't got time to bleed.

Stick around.

Come ahn..... do eeet! Keel me nauow!

^HAHAHAH

Who is Mark Glove and what does that have to do with these projects?  Please enlighten me.

That's a question probably better directed towards John Schneider or thomasbw...I have been out of Cincinnati for the entire month, so I might be somewhat out of the loop on its current status.

I would like to check those out this Saturday....cool

I'm with Weedrose.  Fill us in or keep on topic.

The streetcar should be in front of the finance committee in the near future, possibly the last big hurdle

^It's getting there. The finance-types were in town early this week.

Here are a few shots from the tour of the American Building penthouses on Saturday.

Access to one of the penthouses - 2 elevators right into the unit! A portion of the original floor was maintained. If you scroll to the right of the picture, you can see a "Cutler Mail Chute" which was in use until the building was transitioned into condos 4 years ago. The chute allowed people to drop their mail from any floor. The mail would go down to a box located on the first floor (unless it got stuck and was found 30 years later, as the story goes in some places!)

And my favorite: the trash chute!

Is the last pic a duct?  oops, never mind, I just saw the description.

In #1, are there new townhouses in the foreground?

are you refering to Bracket Village?

Lower left corner, extend his left hand out a little more and you'd be touching them.

^Those are the Western-Southern built (I think) properties on Walnut Street.  They are at least 7-10 years old.  I don't know a ton about them.  They are kind of like cheap imitations of the stuff that exists across the street.

I love trash chutes. They're so convenient.

Those views are fantastic...I would love to have a jacuzzi tub with a view like that.

So, I scoped out Joseph Williams Home this past Friday, and I have to say I was really impressed.  The furniture straddled the line between style and affordability quite well.  They certainly have not made the same mistakes price-wise most contemporary furniture stores do or the same mistakes selection-wise most affordable places do.

Whats the word on the Freestore and their continuing plan of destruction of the neighborhood? Did anybody go to the hearing?

It was moved to Feb 11, as they had to resubmit due to incomplete paperwork.

OTR Community Council did pass a resolution Monday night supporting saving the buildings.

Thanks I will bring thi topic up at my neighborhood meeting on monday.  I know that Pendleton opposes it also.

i saw that video, did they ever mention it was in otr?

No, but they used "beautiful", "great", "incredible" about 20 times in a one-minute span, so I guess they are buying!

I think they also use the 'how the other half lives' line.

in over the rhine.

That place hasnt sold yet??  I went up there about 4 years

years ago when it went on the market.  I also got up into the elevator room above the penthouse unit,  cool stuff!  :-D

Does anybody know what is the SPCA building going to be used for after they move to their new site? It sounded like condos, but they should be done with that school after this school year, and i haven't heard any definite plans yet. I'm assuming that CPS needs the money from the sale of this building to help pay for the new building. Someone please enlighten me

^

There are no current plans for the existing SCPA building.  One issue with CPS selling the property, is that any building suitable for educational use has to be offered to a charter school first.  Hopefully the new administration in Columbus will help change that ridiculous law.

The other issue that has not been settled is if the greenspace to the north will be sold as part of the building or kept for community use.

Some good news, though, it does sound like the Mercer Commons site is close to being sold back to Eagle/Western Southern.

Hopefully that can SPCA can be sold as condos in the 150K range. That would really stimulate that area immensely.
