Bob Deck, co-founder of hospitality group 4EG (Four Entertainment Group), told The Enquirer exclusively that the group will partner with the Lachey brothers on the new sports bar, lounge and full-service restaurant. Tentatively named "Lachey's Bar," it will be at 1201 Walnut St. in Over-the-Rhine and should open in November.

This is sweet! Bring on the publicity!

I think this will be good for helping those further out see a building transforming and understanding what's going on. A&E is pretty high profile too which is nice. Hopefully the show is handled nicely and done tastefully.

Great development.  No matter what you may think of their artistic prowess, they go out of their way to place their hometown in a good light.  Kudos!

I just hope they bill it as "We're opening a bar in the historic German neighborhood of Over-the-Rhine because folks around here love good beer." and not "We're opening up a bar in the hip and trendy OTR district of Cincinnati."  One of those is a unique asset we have and the other is some BS that every city has.

^ Yeah, good point.

Well at least it's on A&E and not VH1. That's a start.

You better leave VH1 ALONE!!!

"You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers

I'm really excited about this news, but this quote from the article makes me worry that the series' follow up might be on an episode of Bar Rescue:

A&E's press release about the show notes: "Despite their lack of knowledge about running a business, these determined brothers are ready to roll up their sleeves and learn the ins and outs of running a place where everybody knows your name. Unfortunately, drinking experience doesn't necessarily translate into drink-making experience… but they're ready to learn."

It's gonna be fine. It's essentially a 4EG bar/restaurant that they have licensed the naming rights too. 4EG has built Lackman, Righteous room, Keystone, etc. It will be good. And what's best, is it bridges Main & Vine. I know a lot of Main St businesses that are struggling because suburbanites don't walk between vine & main enough. This will help.

The bar is going to be run and managed by 4EG (operators of Lackman/Keystone/Sandbar) so they know what they are doing... the Lachey bros are just putting their name on it and it is going to be on TV for publicity.

Yes, and anyone watching on TV will also see the streetcar tracks directly in front of this bar.

Taestell: Perhaps this is the bar you were looking for to suck all the bros away from Neons?

I'm no fan of reality TV or early 00s boy bands, but I'm happy to see OTR get national publicity.  I wish Cincy didn't have the dubious distinction of being the most popular place for reality TV, and I wish that city would work on developing real culture (not old stuff like Opera which it does well, but newer arts) like a stronger interest in quality film, or work towards improving the already improving music scene down there.

Also I'll note that 4EG runs some pretty popular bars in Chicago as well like "The Owl" in Logan Square, "Estelles" in Wicker Park, AliveOne's sister bar in Lincoln Park.  From what I've seen of their work in Cincinnati they have a good feel for the pulse of what the hip bars are doing in Chicago and are bringing that to Cincinnati - I was particularly impressed by the remodel job they did with Igby's.  Its not really a bar for my crowd, but it felt like any large trendy bar in River North and that was impressive to me.

Yeah, yeah.  I know.  I'm just having some fun.  It's just funny that the A&E press release emphasizes them running it.  Like Nick Lachey is going to be doing the books or slinging drinks.

or work towards improving the already improving music scene down there.

The Woodward Theater is going to open in October. Same owners as MOTR. So far they have We Were Promised Jetpacks confirmed for October, and San Fermin playing in November. Their site is not active yet, so I don't know if others are playing. The music scene is going to get a lot better in Cincinnati once the Woodward is open.

Yeah its improving quite nicely, also MPMF is really getting big, last year there were 35,000+ people there I'm assuming it will be bigger this year.  Film still needs a lot of work, from a national perspective the Esquire/Mariemont theater is not a very good arthouse.

Yea there is really not much to complain about here. It is going into a vacant building, will be run by proven local operators, and helps connect the two OTR entertainment districts. As long as the reality show isn't: "famous brothers take pity on forgotten corner of their tired, nothing-to-do, conservative hometown..." then great.

^I don't think the Lachey brothers would allow that.

EXCLUSIVE: Want to develop property in OTR? 3CDC is giving you a chance

Tom Demeropolis Reporter- Cincinnati Business Courier

Cincinnati Center City Development Corp. is giving developers their chance to submit plans for 33 city-owned properties north of Liberty Street in Over-the-Rhine.

Cincinnati City Council unanimously approved a preferred development agreement for 3CDC in June, allowing it to spearhead the development of 33 properties near Findlay Market. But the Over-the-Rhine Community Council and the Over-the-Rhine Foundation had urged the city to hold off on the idea, saying the community wants a larger role in determining its own destiny and expressing concerns over 3CDC’s ability to quickly develop the properties, include a diverse set of developers and ensure a portion of the developments are affordable.

Discussion of the Liberty Street Road Diet has been moved here.

Is there anywhere I can find before/after of renovations in OTR? In googlemaps streetview there are a lot of buildings that still need a lot of work in OTR. I assume many have been renovated and thought it would be cool to see what they look like now.

Look on 3CDC.org. They have before and after shots of most of their projects.

Make sure you clock through the OTR Workgroup updates. It's crazy to see how much has changed.

Also Google Streetview has a new tool. There's the little clock in the upper hand corner menu and it allows you to slide between different dates. I saw the Streetview vehicle driving around OTR a couple weeks ago as well so we'll be getting some pretty recent images sometime soon which will help. The most recent are two years old and it's obvious.

Also there are the Before and After posts on OTR Matters.

http://otrmatters.com/?s=before+and+after

There are a handful that are historic, but then there are also the more recent ones. The contrast is striking.

And you need to make sure you are using the latest version of Google Maps. The old version doesn't have that tool.

Neighborhood bar and bottle shop serving this September in OTR

Garth Lieb, Jeremy Moore and Tom Stephen are no strangers to the Over-the-Rhine bar scene. Not only do they frequent them, but they’ve worked at a handful as well. And this September, the trio will be opening a bar of their own, Liberty’s Bar & Bottle.

The 1,000-square-foot space, which was formerly a condo, will feature 20 rotating taps, wine by the glass, and beer and a selection of wine to-go. Liberty’s will focus more on European craft beer and wine than local offerings, but you can be sure there will be a few of those as well...

...Liberty’s copper topped, walnut bar is original to the building. Eighteen bar stools, a few drink rails and a beer hall-style table will round out the seating. Eight French doors open onto the sidewalk, which Stephen says will make it feel like you’re outside.

^Is that the old Main City space?  I always liked that bar.

I almost bought the second-floor condo directly above that space.  It was one of the best 2-bedroom condos in the neighborhood and I let it get away.

Bummer.  I think I once saw the first floor (the bar itself) listed for sale as a condo.  Someone had a couch, TV, and everything.  Sort of the ultimate bachelor pad, given that it still had a full bar..

Just saw a post on the Old Photos of Cincinnati page on facebook. Someone just purchased the building on Vine that currently houses Smitty's which gives validity to the rumor that's been going around that Smitty's is moving. 13 units.

Well I'm glad I didn't buy the condo now since they're apparently putting a bar in directly beneath it, although this one looks like it's going to be pretty sleepy.

Yeah, living above Liberty's will be nothing compared to living above, say, MOTR.

Here is a photo I took of that condo.  It's one of the few buildings in OTR that didn't get totally trashed in the postwar years by some renovation for low-income residents.

Also there is a persistent urban legend that there exists an apartment above Bogart's, but I've never seen it or talked to anyone who has actually been there.

I don't see a photo.

Sorry about that.  Turns out my work computer can't downsize photos from my phone.  I'll post it tonight or some other time.

I checked with a Bogarts employee- "not above bogarts but there are some on the corner above the hair shop"

The business in this link is actually moving to Hebron KY, but I think it might have been a good fit into north OTR, maybe in the warehouses around the northern terminus of the streetcar, given the company's "hip" nature.  A lot of light industrial doesn't belch out pollution from smokestacks these days and I think it should definitely stay in the conversation when we talk about mixed use development.  (Finding 300 parking spaces up around there may have been problematic though.)

When a company moves to Hebron it is because of the airport and the easy access to shipping infrastructure.  That isnt something that OTR offers.

Or it could be the only Dairy Queen/BP shared building west of the Alleghenies.

You're forgetting about this one.

The company was choosing between Texas and Kentucky. It received a fair incentive package from Kentucky, which led it to choose Hebron.

yes, and I would bet the Texas location was similarly located near a major airport.

OTR development isn’t all 3CDC, designer completes loft renovation: PHOTOS

Tom Demeropolis Reporter- Cincinnati Business Courier

There has been a clamor for more developers and individuals to redevelop properties in Over-the-Rhine, but a number of entrepreneurs are already active in the neighborhood just north of Cincinnati’s Central Business District.

One of the latest individual developments that is just finishing up is Cutthort Lofts, a three-unit redevelopment project by designer Ben Gulley. The three lofts, located north of Liberty Street at 226 E. Clifton Ave., will be available for lease Oct. 1.

Hanke Building now fully occuppied

The historic Hanke Building in Over-the-Rhine is completely leased out with the addition of its latest office tenant.

The Creative Department, a Pendleton-based advertising, branding and marketing agency, signed a long-term lease for 4,600 square feet of space at the 1130 Main St. building. That takes the nearly 50,000-square-foot building to 100 percent occupancy.

The Creative Department will move into a space that was formerly the Cell Block Nightclub. This two-story space includes a 1,400-square-foot mezzanine, original hardwood floors and 20-foot ceilings from the ground level. The company is expected to move into the space in late October or early November.

hanke.jpg

Those streetcar tracks look exactly the same as what we're building (turn from 12th to Main).

Hopefully this progress inspires Hanke not to demolish the Furniture building.

I've heard nothing positive about Stough Group about the Davis building (owner of Davis Furniture and the Hanke Building). Rumor has it 3CDC made an offer that would cover all costs Stough has encumbered thus far and Stough refused to negotiate until 3CDC signed a nondisclosure agreement. Stough wants the buildings demolished and to retain ownership for future development.

^ I can't fault the Stough group for not selling their property for all their costs thus far (so not at any profit) just so 3CDC can sit on the property for a few more years. Stough doesn't get a free pass just because they have been good stewards of the Hanke and adjoining buildings, but they deserve a little respect for it. I hope that the Davis building doesn't get knocked down, but I don't plan to buy it.

Also, what's wrong with requiring a non-disclosure agreement?

^ I completely disagree and am going to read that as though you don't know all the facts.  Stough bought the building to tear it down and build a parking lot.  ON A BLOCK THAT ALREADY HAS TWO PARKING LOTS.  If Stough gets their way, the block will be three parking lots.  The Main Street entrance to OTR will be one block that is 100% parking lots.  That is disgusting.  3CDC may "hold on to it for a couple years" only doing the basic stabilization until they have a plan, but does anyone here think that is worse than tearing it Down in December (Stough's goal).  They aren't even allowing anyone to make realistic bids on the building because they are requiring these crazy agreements to be signed before even negotiating.

^ So it is a fact that Stough bought the building to turn it into a parking lot? They didn't hope to save it but have decided that it can't be done in a cost effective manner? This is something they admitted openly or are you just reading their minds?

There is obviously no need for more parking right there on Main. They don't need parking for their existing buildings because they have direct, covered access to the Alms & Doepke Garage behind them.

The one fact I don't have is the nature of these "crazy" agreements they are requiring. Is this something that is far outside the norm of real estate negotiation?

EXCLUSIVE: 3CDC adding dozens of condos, townhomes in Over-the-Rhine

Tom Demeropolis Reporter- Cincinnati Business Courier

Cincinnati Center City Development Corp. needs more condos and townhomes to meet increasing demand for residential space in Over-the-Rhine.

So far this year, the nonprofit real estate development and finance organization has signed or closed on 51 residential units. In all of 2013, 75 units were sold, and 58 were sold in 2012. Adam Gelter, 3CDC’s executive vice president of development, said with 21 units still available for sale 3CDC is ramping up redevelopment.
