Cleveland: Ohio City: Church+State (West 29th & Detroit Ave)

It is going to be ugly, but I won’t argue with the density.

It's personally not my favorite aesthetically either, at least as shown in renderings. But it's creative and ambitious and will interact with the street very well.

Not to mention, it stares directly in the face of a 15 story, concrete, brutalist housing project - so it's hard for me to use the word "ugly"

Everyone has their own opinion of beauty. So the only question for me is, does the design add density, mixed use, relate to the street well, etc.? The answer is yes.

I honestly cannot wait for next summer with some of the retail up and running there. Going to be such a cool little enclave.

Very bad iPhone SE picture quality.

Will be interesting to see what kind of retail they can land there.  There are signs up for a barbershop and nail salon in the adjacent print shop building, though those spaces have been empty for a little bit.  I know the block club was pushing for a pharmacy and the developers would love to have one, but have not found any interested parties.

I noticed the crane yesterday to great surprise.

Is it possible that Ohio City will have THREE cranes up at the same time with this project, Dexter, and Ohio City Market Plaza?

In my humble opinion, I don't think a crane will be necessary at Dexter and - while Market Plaza certainly will need AT LEAST one, I bet we won't be seeing that until late next Spring/early Summer at the earliest.

Dexter has a short crane on site. Snavely's phase 3 will also likely have a short crane too.

Okay who’s got the Lorain-Carnegie bridge? ?

I've been reading UO for nearly 3 years, but will dip a toe in the water and post my first comment. I was in Ohio City today having lunch at Market Garden Brewery with my two sons and the place was packed. Also went to Westside Market and Mitchell's ice cream and the vibrancy and energy was stunning...people everywhere having a great time and enjoying the local hotspots. I am so proud of my adopted hometown and I am very confident that developments such as Church + State will fill quickly once they come online!

I tried taking that shot the other day but I almost sideswiped another car and missed the shot.

^You crazy kids!

For the record, I was not driving, nor do I ever attempt to take photos while driving - no photo is ever worth the risk.

My thoughts on this were galvanized ten years ago when one of the longtime skyscraperpage.com (SSP - essentially where urbanohio originated) forumers was killed while scouting photo locations. Even worse, the forumer left behind a wife and two young children ?

Love the pic but best thing about your post is that you said you took it from "The Jake"

That part of Detroit really needs to be narrowed. A landscaped pedestrian Island in between the parking across the street and Detroit would go a long way.

Yeah, the crosswalk there is pretty dangerous. I’ve witnessed a lot of close calls.

I honestly love the arched windows of those older buildings. Let's see more of them in new builds!

Looks like this is going to have the same or similar construction technique as The Edge on Euclid Ave by CSU.

^ I was going to say the same thing. We should see this rise up pretty quick now.

That picture fully illustrates the bloated physique of the federal courthouse.

I noticed they had windows installed on the Church side. Seems like this thing will be up and completely enclosed in no time. Also, this building will have quite the presence as you approach the city on the Shoreway.

^ Contributing to that "Ohio City Skyline" ?

He might not approve of the misspelling of his name either.

How about “THE” Ohio City? ?
