January 23, 20223 yr Vegan Doughnut Co. set to reopen The Vegan Doughnut Co. in Lakewood has announced a soft reopening a little over 7 months after the unexpected death of Neche Bunn, the mother of the company's co-owners, Kharisma Mayo and Kyra Mayo. During this weekend, the store's hours will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. — or until the doughnuts run out — according to the company's Instagram page. A menu will be announced for the event later Friday. The brief reopening will only last Saturday and Sunday, as the company seeks to hire more staff before its full reopening. A full reopening date has not yet been determined. January 31, 20223 yr Looks like Sixth City Sailors Club is going away and House of Creole is taking its place. Bummer, since I loved Sixth City, but this place sounds like it has a lot of potential. The food all sounds great, and if one of their DC restaurants has brunch reservations filled through April, then I have high hopes for the quality and popularity. Hopefully they continue to make great use of the awesome patio here too! https://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/2022/01/house-of-creole-cleveland-set-to-open-in-downtown-cleveland.html
January 31, 20223 yr I hope they do well and find a niche, but my gut tells me this will be onto the next operator within a year. If Driftwood couldn’t make it work, I worry about a smaller outfit completely new to the market. Finding competent staff and management in the current environment AND opening up on All Star Game weekend….I wish them the best. For whatever reason (size?) the 668 space just seems to be a tough spot. Quite the change from the days of ZINC. And I’m not sure where the fact checking is on the claim that Creole on 14th is booked up for brunch into April…that’s demonstrably not true. That’s not even the case at Le Dip 🤷♂️ Edited January 31, 20223 yr by brtshrcegr
February 1, 20223 yr Here's a first look at Sora's restaurant in Cleveland's Flats Sora, a ghost kitchen known for its Sushi takeout box, is opening its new pop-up restaurant at 1121 W. 10th St. in Cleveland's Flats, right next to Lago East Bank, its sister restaurant. “The ghost kitchen concept changed the landscape," said Fabio Salerno, chef and owner of Lago East Bank and Sora. "It’s been a tough year for the dining industry, and this business model allowed us to focus on providing quality product and build a brand with a visceral impact. The response from our community has been instrumental." The restaurant will open to the public Thursday, with enough seating for between 100 and 150 people, said Kumar Arora, a partner with Sora Hospitality Group. He describes his role as more focused on marketing and designing the restaurant. March 3, 20223 yr Cordelia to Debut in Former Lola Bistro Space on East 4th Street This Spring By Douglas Trattner As devastating a blow as it was when Michael Symon closed Lola on East 4th Street, seeds of optimism soon began to sprout. Last summer, diners were thrilled to learn that the iconic restaurant space had been leased, but details surrounding the new business have remained a closely guarded secret. Now, partners Andrew Watts and Vinnie Cimino have come out on the record for the first time to discuss Cordelia, a compelling new restaurant that will debut this spring. For 20 years, Watts has been a fixture in the local dining, nightlife and hospitality scene, working in management in dozens of establishments. Cimino, the executive chef and operating partner, worked for Team Sawyer Restaurant Group, including Greenhouse Tavern when that restaurant's chef won the James Beard Award. March 7, 20223 yr Ugh - 3 Palms has removed the Pinecrest location from their webpage. That’s a bummer - I was hoping it was just a temporary closure. They had by far the best pizza in that area. Hell even Taco Bell (which has the best drive thru breakfasts) opens way too late. Six Shooter used to make a breakfast sandwich so good I'd actually get out of my car that early (for me that is saying a lot) but they quit doing them. Edit: went this morning and they have a breakfast burrito that is good too. They also partnered with Masthead to make a great coffee stout that's particularly suited for brunch. March 10, 20223 yr Now this sounds AWESOME! Sheng Long Yu's Next Big Move is to Open an Asiatown Food Hall Serving Street Foods from China, Japan and Taiwan "Yu describes the concept as “a food hall with a touch of service.” Diners will walk in, grab seats and order foods from various kitchens using their phones. The food will be delivered to the table by a server or a robot, a method already in use at Shinto Westlake. Diners can look forward to appealing Asian street foods like bao, dumplings, izakaya-style BBQ skewers and bubble tea. March 11, 20223 yr Thanks for these, when I'm on my computer I'll post the reddit thread when I have a bit more time, seemed like there were some good ones. Lol of course it is. I honestly don't trust those listicles, it's everyone and the kitchen sink who has them whether it be fish sticks or amazing breaded goodness. Prior to COVID I was doing a neighborhood circuit in Old Brooklyn and oof very hit and miss.
March 15, 20223 yr Okay UO family - I need a HUGE favor. Does anyone know the owner of or any former employees at Jack Flaps (either location) that you'd be willing to put me in contact with? In short, my wife and I used to meet there every Tuesday when I was in law school and she was working on the other side of downtown. We'd each get an order of pancakes every time. It was recently our third anniversary, and we both lamented that Jack Flaps is no longer. I'd love to be able to give her a belated gift of the aroma of Jack Flaps pancakes filling up our house one Sunday morning. Since the restaurant is no longer in operation, I hope the recipe isn't a highly guarded secret anymore! If anyone could help me, I'd greatly appreciate it.
