I will see what I can do, I think I still retain significant contacts in the industry.   PM me if I forget after awhile.

Sorry Mods :(

Their kimchi was also amazing. Unfortunately, we didn’t frequent enough to build up a contact.

Okay UO family - I need a HUGE favor.

Does anyone know the owner of or any former employees at Jack Flaps (either location) that you'd be willing to put me in contact with?

In short, my wife and I used to meet there every Tuesday when I was in law school and she was working on the other side of downtown. We'd each get an order of pancakes every time.

It was recently our third anniversary, and we both lamented that Jack Flaps is no longer. I'd love to be able to give her a belated gift of the aroma of Jack Flaps pancakes filling up our house one Sunday morning. Since the restaurant is no longer in operation, I hope the recipe isn't a highly guarded secret anymore!

If anyone could help me, I'd greatly appreciate it.

funny you mention that -- i just read about this new urban diner place from the great flying fig folks in the scene --

maybe they can connect you since they are taking the jf space?  👍

Cordelia restaurant to open at East 4th Street in former Lola Bistro spot

Cordelia restaurant is preparing to open in Cleveland this spring at 2058 E. 4th St., where Michael Symon's former Lola Bistro closed after more than 20 years of operation.

Andrew Watts, an operating partner at Forward Hospitality Group, and Vinnie Cimino, chef de cuisine at The Greenhouse Tavern, have teamed up for the project.

"There's no question that this is hallowed ground in Cleveland culinary and we don't take it lightly," Watts said. "The space itself is iconic, rich with history, and on a prime corner."

Whoa I hope that works out @YABO713. Good luck (and sorry for tagging with no answers!).

Winking Lizard is "officially" out of the space now that advertising is up for the space. Obviously it's been reported that they were closing this location, but up until this they've had 'this locn is temporarily closed' in their windows. Welp cat's out of the bag for those not in the know ha.

They're also moving furniture into the Blue Agave(?, I think) restaurant on E4 (what was formerly Zocalo).

The owner's name is Randy Carter. I have an old Jack Flaps email from when it was open in the 5th Street Arcades that I could send over to you if you're interested. He also has a LinkedIn, so that could be an option as well. I never knew him personally so I wouldn't be able to do an introduction or anything. I hope you're able to make it work! Their food was amazing.

Yeah, Winking Lizard isn't haute cuisine but any time I had to pick a downtown spot to accommodate visitors (think in-laws, toting children, etc.) AND have a good beer selection (helLO, in-laws!) - the Gateway spot was my go-to.

Fun fact, they use peppers from my community garden (Ben Franklin) for some of their hot sauces.

Unfortunately, I heard Astoria will be closed through this week. From what I've heard, a very sad and unfortunate event took place at the bar after hours on Monday night.

Here's a first look at Condado Tacos' Mentor location

Condado Tacos is planning to hold a grand opening on May 26 for its 32nd location, which is still being completed at 7720 Mentor Ave.

"We believe this is a vibrant market on the far east side of the Cleveland area, and also it's not currently close to any of our existing locations," the restaurant said in an email to the Cleveland Business Journal.

The fast-casual taco chain, which started in Columbus in 2014, has a presence in three other Cleveland-area suburbs: Orange, Westlake, and Strongsville.

Biggby Coffee aims to aggressively expand in Northeast Ohio

Biggby Coffee, a chain founded in Michigan in 1995, plans to aggressively expand throughout Northeast Ohio over the next few years.

The franchised coffee chain plans to have 20 stores in the area by the end of the year and 50 by the end of 2025.

Moe Charara, an area representative for Biggby Coffee, said Northeast Ohio is a strong market for the coffee chain, which has more 300 locations throughout the country.

The Aviator takes off with refreshed design in former 100th Bomb Group space (photos)

Published: Apr. 18, 2022, 5:30 a.m.

By Marc Bona, cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio – You’ll notice the first difference between The Aviator and its former occupant, the 100th Bomb Group, before you walk in the doors.

The airplanes are gone.

The mounted planes stood outside the space adjacent to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport for years. But new owners have come in and revamped the design, look and amenities of the location. It’s been rehauled and converted it into an event center, pub and restaurant.

The Aviator, which opened April 6, is owned by Khadar Soussou; the Rababy family, which runs United Concessions Group at airports including Cleveland Hopkins; and Tony Di Fiore. All have known each other for years.

“They spared no expense in building this place,” Soussou said of the former owners, California-based Specialty Restaurants Corp. “The bones were here. We just had to make it look pretty again. … "

New cafe, The Judith, to open on Cleveland's West Side

Construction is underway for The Judith, a new cafe planned for Cleveland's Detroit Shoreway neighborhood.

The cafe will open before the summer, after the $145,000 renovation project on the century-old building at 5222 Lorain Ave. concludes.

The building had previously been used for food storage and was once home to a neighborhood cleaning company.

Andrew Worm, a co-owner of The Judith who also lives in Detroit Shoreway, said he thought that the neighborhood would be perfect spot for a cafe.

"We’ve seen it explode over the last two years," Worm said. "Housing is being filled up with new neighbors and residents. We’ve seen it right here on the ground. Right now, there’s not a lot of businesses and retail here."
