I feel like half of these "concept" restaurant owners go in planning to close the business within 2-3 years to open another concept in the same place.

They're all very current trend places trying to make a quick buck off of the hype of being a new restaurant doing something people want, with higher prices than their competitors.  Then when that quickly wears off they just move to the next new concept.  I would bet that by the end of 2025, the same thing happens to places like Jaja, Bright Side, Filter, and whatever moves into the old Greenhouse Tavern location next.

That way, they're always the brand new trendy restaurant all of the Cleveland influencers are telling people they "HAVE to check out"

Filter is actually pretty popular.

The Astro Restaurant opens in former Hard Rock Cafe space in Cleveland's Tower City

The Astro Restaurant opened Tuesday in downtown Cleveland's Tower City Center in the location once occupied by Hard Rock Cafe.

Andre Scott, Jeremiah Burks, Christopher Thomas and Ryan Gullatt — the same restaurateurs who opened The Haunted House Restaurant in Cleveland Heights in 2021 — are managing the new space-themed restaurant in the Tower City location that had been vacant for eight years.

It took an invitation from Bedrock Cleveland, Dan Gilbert's Detroit-based development company, for the partners to consider the site at 230 W. Huron Road, according to the NEOtrans blog.

We had it with DP Dough on Euclid but they randomly "temporarily closed".

According to DP Dough they went through a management change that took longer than expected but they actually do plan to reopen Downtown soon

Went there before the Guards game Friday. Was heading for the Clevelander so got tricked a little to going to their patio but that’s ok. Place was nice inside from what I saw and the patio was nice too. I love that little corner.

They officially reopened as of 3 days ago.

The guy who founded Donte's restaurant in Berea was a retired New York Central operator at Linndale Tower. I met him not long after I moved in '93 to live a block away from this restaurant. Spent a lot of time here in the mid-90s.

I lived on Sheldon Rd. during that same  time Ken, less than 1/2 a mile west. This place probably accounted for 50% of my caloric intake in the 90's. Sad to see it close. FWIW and pedantic for sure, @KJP the north side of Sheldon is a Brook Park address.

Oops! I lived in Tabor Ridge apartments -- Emerson and Rocky River Drive, from September of 1993 to November of 1996. After I moved out of there to Lakewood, I haven't moved since....

This is like 20 years ago when drug stores were popping up on every corner, or in the 1980s when fast food joints were popping up on every corner, or the 1970s when convenience stores were popping up on every corner, or the 1950s-60s when gas stations were popping up on every corner.

Citizen Pie Roman Café on East 4th Street to Close

Citizen Pie closed their downtown location, which was pretty good and my go-to pizza joint downtown. However, it usually seemed slow in there so not overly surprising. Always confused me why it did little business compared to Geraci's which has very mediocre pizza IMO.

Also confused why they weren't busier, loved the options the E4th location had and because of that would often get pizza from them instead of the Ohio City location even though it was more cumbersome to do so. Encouraging that they said "the downtown shop will be rolled into the Ohio City location, where diners can look forward to menu changes in the future," so hopefully can still get my go to order!

Geraci's has a following.   People tend to like the pizza they grew up on.   For me, that's Teresa's.   Franchise qualities do vary, and the latter proves it.

Kelly had CP downtown and loved it, we went to Waterloo last fall and she wasn't so impressed.

I was a fan of their slices. But I think Roman style might not be as well known.

I think Geraci's benefits from it's location (and some recognition with suburbanites but it's too expensive for the business crowd IMO). Vincenza's was even busier when it was open and like a quarter of the price.

Citizen Pie was never busy when I was in there and kind of awkward in general. I was stoked when they said it'd be an outpost of Six Shooter only to be disappointed in the quality of the (drip) coffee.

I think it was because of the physical space. It didn't look like a pizza joint and was not nearly as aesthetic or welcoming as Geraci's from the outside. On the inside when I've been in there they didn't even have music playing in the background. I hope the space gets filled soon. Great location.

I loved their pizza, especially the cacio e pepe, which was outstanding. I agree with all these points, plus the fact that the space was appallingly ventilated. It always had an oily haze inside and after I’d been in there, even just to pick up, my clothes smelt like I’d just worked an 8 hour shift at a fast food joint.

^ I hope it’s more of an asset than the one on East 9th, that closes in the afternoon for the day and despite having a huge space, has never once made its seating available for use. Going in there is still like living in early-COVID times.

One time I went to interview a victim in there because they felt more comfortable at a third party location and it was pouring rain outside. They kicked us out.

I probably could have pulled the official police business so f@#k off but my victim was so put off I didn't want to have her start a fight with the employee, so we left.

I’m glad I’m not the only one! The place is openly hostile to the general public, with a real ‘us vs them’ attitude. It’s bizarre.

Honeygrow fast-casual restaurant chain expanding into NE Ohio

Philadelphia-based fast-casual restaurant Honeygrow is expanding into Ohio with plans to open two Northeast Ohio locations this fall.

Known for its create-your-own stir-fries and salads, Honeygrow has signed leases for stores at 17830 Royalton Road in Strongsville near SouthPark Mall and 4525 Everhard Road NW in North Canton near Belden Village Mall, the company said Monday.

Since its start in 2012, Honeygrow has expanded to more than 45 locations across Pennsylvania, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Delaware, New York and Virginia.

In London, there's a great, popular restaurant called Flat Iron that's a limited menu, mostly one steak option, one price restaurant with a complimentary, gourmet ice cream cone (with delicious chocolate shavings) handed to you on the way out. A winner there - and if this is close, it should be one here, too.

Their plan sounds solid to me. Thats a good cut of meat they plan on using for the base option.

STEAK, promises management, will be suited equally well for a casual weeknight dinner or a celebratory blowout. Its biggest differentiator is the all-inclusive format that combines steak, salad, unlimited waffle-cut fries and unlimited popcorn for just $35. Also unique is the house cut, a USDA Prime coulotte steak, also referred to as the top sirloin cap or picanha.

Melt will be down to its original Lakewood location and two quick-service stands. What a (not shocking) downfall for a once-great restaurant that over-expanded, degraded quality and service, and jacked up prices.

Melt Bar and Grilled locations to close in Akron and Mentor: Owner Matt Fish shares update on company's future

In a statement addressing the future of Melt Bar and Grilled in Northeast Ohio, owner Matt Fish has announced the locations in Akron and Mentor will close permanently next month.

“This decision was very difficult to make on a personal and professional level,” Fish said in a Facebook post Monday morning. “Operating multiple locations is unfortunately not sustainable for the immediate or long-term future. This difficult decision was made to ensure Melt Bar and Grilled will continue and succeed with a much smaller footprint.”

Sweet Pork Wilson's is awesome. Also, it has a very simple vibe and great ownership that is always there.

Didn't LeCharles Bentley go to St. Ignatius?  If so, then unimpressed by that school.  And after looking at their Wikipedia page of alum, I'm not impressed.  I'm sure Cleveland has better schools.  Actually, I know Cleveland has better schools.
