I am having trouble picturing takeout cereal...if you are planning in eating in the car---how? If you are taking it home, why not run just pick some frankenberries up from the store?

Its almost like a school cafeteria, you enter the line on one end, then order your cereal, your topping, sprinkles, or whatever, then your milk.

then you sit down to eat it at a table.  There was take out.

I ate at Crop last night in the Warehouse District... wonderful wonderful wonderful. Very cozy ambiance, good service. Sunday night is prix fixe, $23.50 each which is really decent for the quality of food. We had the citrus infused chicken breast and thigh and the butternut squash ravioli, along with probably the best salad i've ever had (spinach, fennel, homemade pickles, fresh ginger) and a hearty apple crisp. Loved it.

^ I had it the previous Sunday, and it immediately shot up to the top of my list in town.

Fantastic food - different, fresh, local.

Mentioned elsewhere on here but Reddstone (on W. 76th, adjacent to Battery Park - the old Snickers) had it's grand opening last week, as did Latitude 41 on Detroit across from the new Snickers and Happy Dog.  Detroit Shoreway is alive and eating well!

I wonder if you're talking about cereality.  I don't think they have a store in Chicago.  We did something at the launch of their first store in Philly.

They usually have locations near colleges/universities.  We did a a marketing program with them, its a cool idea.  Very young.

Cereality's web site lists its first three locations as Philadelphia, Tempe, Ariz., and Chicago.

Tastebuds Restaurant (1400 E. 30th) has long been wooing over the lunch crowd on the eastern border of downtown, but now it looks like they're expanding to offer a weekly upscale dinner experience as well. $30 a pop, Friday evenings. I've heard the menu is absolutely incredible. They've renovated a space behind their traditional cafeteria-style restaurant that's supposed to look great.

That's great news.  When the weather is good, I will actually walk to Tastebuds from my office (on public square) so I don't feel guilty about indulging in their greek pasta dish, which is one of my favorites.  I'll definitely have to check out the friday dinner scene.

Here in Charleston, we had a Cereality open in July/August-ish by the college campus, and it unfortunately has already closed down earlier this month. I was excited about the concept, so hopefully the Cereal Central does better

FYI, Reddstone's Monday "Industry Night," which is advertised as 1/2 off everything, apparently applies to Gorilla Productions people only.  Wish they would've mentioned that on their website or one of the many postcards they have sitting out.  Their food is good, don't get me wrong, but it would've been even better if it was half as expensive!

What is this "Grorillla Productions" you speak of,and how might I pretend to work there? Am I a bartender, accountant?,

BTW, noticed a small ad in Crain's that That Place on Bellflower is for sale (this place or rather that place seems to change ownership every year or two...)

today is supposed to be the grand opening for bar cento.

when anyone makes it there please report.

^We went on a sneak preview night a couple weeks ago. it turned out it was sponsored by Camel cigarettes, who helpfully offered cigarette pairings for the food and drink ( I kid you not). There were huge cigarette signs everywhere, which I hope will come down for the real opening. Something about Joe Camel does not make me hungry. The pizza was tasty, but the chef explained that they did not have all their supplies in place, so the opening product would be even better. The bar looks great, the eating area small and cozy (no tables when I went). Maybe this weekend I will try and check it out.

i don't know if there's science behind it, but I always thought that nicotine was an appetite suppressant....

yes, there is science behind it! edit- I dont smoke, but even looking at cigerettes/ashtrays is not too appealing

I saw Tastebuds' new dinner space, and it's kitsch meets swank ... definitely worth the $30 I'm thinking ... I totally have to check out the special dinners now!

New-look McDonald's coming to Cleveland

Posted by Zachary Lewis October 18, 2007 17:26PM

Fast-food junkies in Cleveland may have trouble recognizing their old hangout when the dust settles on the city's newest McDonald's.

That's because the restaurant currently under construction on Carnegie Avenue near East 30th Street is being rebuilt according to the chain's newest design and will look like none of the 270 other McDonald's locations in Northeast Ohio.

More at cleveland.com http://www.cleveland.com

So far, 6,500 of McDonald's 13,700 U.S. restaurants have been renovated as part of that effort, Proud said. But it took until 2007 for the new look to reach a restaurant in Northeast Ohio.

Thanks for thinking of us, MickyDee's.

I, for one, can't wait to sit down over a new high-tech McGrease Burger while entertaining clients and making use of their wi-fi!

Yeah, I heard Ned Hill's got a hand in this. He's looking to create a fast-food district on Carnegie.

The "Drive-thru District..." I like it.  Add it to the project map!  Pedestrians and vegetarians beware!

Too late, it's already there.  But at least we're discussing a restaurant X can afford for once!

I hope you mean "MOST bottles of wine are 50% off of regular price when bought 'to go'!"

Screw hosting, get some bar shifts! :)

Nice! We're coming for my dad's b-day a week from Saturday!

No-they're 50% full.  The host is req'd to drink 1/2 of the bottle when you buy it to-go.

Why do you think I host?

I went to Momocho last night and it never opened!!!!  I called, but no answer.  Does anyone know if something is going on there?

thanks

Maybe they are closed on Halloween??  I saw them doing some exterior painting on Tuesday. I wouldn't think that put money into the place just before closing.

OK.  Thanks....it just seemed odd, there was no sign posted.

Not sure why they were not open, but as a business they are definitely still open for business (unless my sister is out of a job and didn't tell me).

There was also a mention in this week's Friday section in the PD about an event they were having this weekend.  Obviously not definitive, but makes it less likely that they were closed.

Is Velocity on Clifton still open? I've passed several times during dinner hours this week, and the place has been dark.

Went to Bar Cento today. That place rocks! Will go back over and over and over.

if it was rocking before 5:55pm, I am impressed

Well, we were there at 2 p.m. for a late lunch. The crowd was pretty scant, but the place is awesome and affordable.

I am glad they are open for lunch...esp weekends.

someone on the cleveland.com forums posted that it was closed.  not sure why.  apparently the owner is listing it for rent on craigslist:

Seems the curse continues..! :?  I'll see if I can find out whats going on since my relatives own that building..

I went to Bar One for lunch today, my first visit.  It's very cool looking inside, amazing for such a small space, kind of reminds me of a place you'd see in NY.  I think they may have a foot traffic problem in that location though.

Me and my dining companion both got sandwiches, I got o-rings and companion got fries with the sandwich.  The fries were overly salty and had some kind of spice on them that was a little unpleasant but the o-rings were good, if uncomfortably big (which makes them hard to eat).  Both sandwiches were "good" but not "great."  But it's still better than a lot of places for lunch.  I get so tired of visiting the same places over and over for lunch, it's nice to have a new spot.

What have your experiences been like there in terms of lunch?

Rockandroller,

What were the prices like?

I think they're around $8-$9 for sandwiches, $11ish for entrees at lunch. And despite the neon sign in the window, they did NOT have any Great Lakes on tap (bottles yes, tap no).

MayDay is about right.  I really only glanced at the prices.  We'd been wandering around hungry and cold for several minutes discussing the "usual suspect" lunch locations and I remembered this place, so we went there.  My companion paid for lunch and I didn't pore over the menu for long, so I'm not sure of the exact price, but I think MayDay's estimates are right.

Yes the Velocity Grill is the latest casualty of the Wilsher building.

It was very sudden.  The owners of the buildning basically didnt even know until it happened last Wednesday night.

They gave no warning, but apparently after the outdoor patio season closed, business really tapered off.

Too bad...

If Velocity went under that fast, there were bigger problems than just a slow month or two.

In OC news, I went to Lozada's today, and guess what- it's no longer Lozada's!  Apparently it had closed, and everyone knew but me.  As of today, it is now a Mexican place, though I can't remember the name- they still had Lozada's on the sign out front.  Standard fare, average quality, decent prices.  Not bad if you're in Ohio City and looking for an enchilada, but not destination dining.

wow. Lozada's that's an institution.  I think things went down hill last year when the patriarch had a stroke and the son took over. Things kind of got inconsistent. Just last night I noticed " Lozadas" was open (??) and thought I needed to get in there.  I was just talking to my coworker from Puerto Rico today about his thoughts on Latino demographics in the neighborhood since he works with Spanish speaking folks. He guessed all groups were on the rise, esp Mexican (and other Central American) . Now where will I get my PR food fix (other than cooking it myslef). There is a place in Detroit Shoreway, has anyone been?

I saw that there's a new restaurant planned for the Ruthie and Moe's former space at East 40th and Prospect.  There's a "coming soon" sign on the building with the name of a new place on it.  Anyone have details?
