ooo a Tapas place? I went to a tapas bar in London a few years ago and became hooked on the idea... I'd be interested in knowing where that is

Oh man, that sounds really good night now.

I had heard that too about Golic's place - although I'd rather have a Mike Golic establishment...

Hey, as long as they are running Saved by the Bell: The college years, non-stop on the TVs, I'm happy.

Hey all!! First time long time!! I just moved to the Waterstreet Condos and was curious on this Bob Golic sports bar.  Does anyone have any more info on this place?  It is right across the street and there has been workers at that site for weeks. Thanks!!

Welcome.

As initiation to the cool kids group, your first assignment it to go out and snap some pictures and ask the workers questions.  If you fail to accept or complete this mission you'll be banned and or killed.

This post will self destruct in ten seconds.

Greeting, jmpippin!

I echo MTS's message, all except for the banned or killed part.

It's called Bodega and it's owned by the same people who own Uptowne Grille in University Circle.  They did a nice job renovating the place and it's easily the most upscale place on Coventry (which isn't saying much, but this place would fit in the WHD).  They have live music a few nights/wk (jazz when we were there).  Food was decent -not the best or most inventive tapas I've ever had, but not bad.  It's located just south of Phoenix coffee.

I get the feeling that I'm going to love the Greenhouse Tavern when it opens.  Kudos to the team on their kick-a$$ website, which keeps us anxious nerds up-to-date with their progress: http://thegreenhousetavern.com/  The reason I post it again is that they've added a new photo series from July 29th on their construction progress.  It's nice when they recognize that their future customers are actually interested in the deconstruction (and future construction) of their space!

and next door to BD's

I noticed the sign is up on Bob Golic's place (sorry no camera).  Any idea when this is scheduled to open?

^Just speculation, but I imagine they want to be open by the Cowboys game.

FYI, the Happy Dog (Detroit & West 58th) has changed ownership.  I asked one of the bartenders what happened to all of the dogs, skeletons, skull in a bird cage, and other quirky decor, and she told me that the former owner took a lot of it.  Other stuff was thrown out.  She also said that the first thing the new owner had them do was to physically clean the place up.

I really hope that that place doesn't change much.  :|

not sure if this should go under the e4th thread or here, but for those who want to give the hotly debated Zocalo another try it appears there is lower risk way to do it:

$25 for $50 gift certificate

http://clevecom.mediawebconnect.com/

(sale starts 8/13)

^ I like those deals if you have a group, but it's worth mentioning you have to use the full $50 all at once. It's easy to miss ("Certificate must be used in full" is listed under restrictions).

^ That depends - I've gotten these deals and received 2-$25 certificates, or even 5-$10 certificates...

Oh that'd be great, I didn't know that. It does say "Each Certificate Value: $25.00" so maybe it's 2 $25ers.

He was in Saved by the Bell?

WOW!!!

I can now say I learned something new today.

mullet on denim on denim, I like it.

OK--this PD reporting is getting worse and worse (and sad/not funny any more)....check out the picture of Bob [in this case MIKE!] Golic for the new restaurant:

http://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2008/08/bob_golic_part_of_team_opening.html

EDIT: should I email this to Mike and Mike...or would it look too bad for Cleveland??  To quote the article "one of the city's most popular sports figures" and they can't even get his picture right.

medium_bog-golic.jpg

^They must know something - the picture identifies him simply as "Golic" and not Bob or Mike.

I highly doubt they know anything else--hell, we probably know more!

I bet the writer/staff just didn't know what Bob Golic looked like.  But to also just put "Golic," maybe they were a little confused when the first name was different than what they were reporting..so they tried to play it safe..

I wrote the author, and he said "yes that is BOB Golic"

My response:

I haven't seen Bob Golic in person in a year so, but unless he's dropped about a 100 lbs, darkened his hair, cut it short, and straightened, that does not look like him in the PD article. See also: http://www.bobgolic.com/

I'd like to correct my earlier statement. They, in fact, know nothing.

This, I believe, is what is known as a facepalm moment.

aww...they changed the picture finally....

^I listen to Mike & Mike. M Golic mentioned last week that Bob had lost 150lbs. They were going to film a commercial together for Nutrisystems or whatever the name of that diet company is called. (I know that is not Bob in the above picture)

Saw this website, clevelandindependents.com, on the news this evening. There are gift certificates for $25 and $50 at a fraction of the full price here.

^well that's craptastic.

It's been awhile since brothers Patrick and Daniel Conway made the rounds to area retailers in an old Chevy station wagon, amber bottles of their craft beer clanging like bells every time they hit a chuckhole in the road.

In those days, their fledgling Great Lakes Brewing Co. bottled its beer by hand, a slow process that resulted in only 30 cases a day.

Great Lakes is the BEST!  I have taken every single Great Lakes Beer (that I can get in bottles mind you) to my friends in NYC, and they simply cannot believe how good it is.  So much so that when I brought a Nosferatu to a friend who was drinking Arrogant Bastard, he just couldn't muster up the strength to finish Stone Brewery's flagship brew.  Go Great Lakes, and please bottle the Pilsner!

I visited my folks in Columbiana County this past weekend - two pleasant surprises:

1. Dortmunder Gold on tap at Mike's Penn Grill in downtown Salem. In chilled 24 oz. mugs. For $3.25 :drunk:

2. The lone grocery store in the rinky-dink village of 387 people (that's right, 387) closest to my folks' camper on the lake carries six-packs Dortmunder, Burning River, Elliot Ness, and Edmund Fitzgerald. I used to have to drive 15-20 minutes into the "city" of 11K people to buy it at Giant Eagle.

I love my folks, but I dreaded visits knowing that my choices were likely Bud or Coors Light but not anymore. God bless GLBC! :drunk: :drunk: :drunk:

eww

GLBC in Appalachia? Suprising, yes. Yet, I am having more trouble trying to picture you in a camper.

Does GLBC have a hdqt's office?  I wondered if there where corporate employees that worked for them in an office building somewhere.

I doubt it. I think everything is on site.

Dude, seriously, become a salesman for them. You can give your sales pitch from the heart!!

*sputtering incoherently over that menu* wow.

I know. I seriously do not think it could me more tasty sounding than it is.

yeah, everybody is gonna be happy. it rings all the bells:

1) a pro, good looking website

2) it's got an ohio-sourced focus (ie., smoked walleye, Bone In Dry Aged Ohio Premium Rib Eye)

3) dishes 'foodies' will love (ie.,  Cod In Paper w/lobster, artichoke, pinot blanc & meyer lemon)

4) items 'chowhounds' will be happy with too (ie., Potted Pig's Head)

5) & plenty of easy, unimtimidating/approachable things anybody would like (ie., ohio pub burger)

again wow. this is great.
