Ha. Tequila, bourbon... whatever.

Though I've got some friends that are huge whiskey people and they are pretty ecstatic over this concept.  It could be a nice niche.

This sounds really cool, it will add some variety to the East 9th/ Huron area. I don't know why but I've never liked the Boneyard.

Cupcake craziness hasn't taken over Cleveland.  I've had better.  I'm an old fashioned Grammy's boy!  When I want sweets, I call my Grammy.

A cookie and a cupcake in tremont is supposed to be good but I have yet to try

They have pretty good brownies...but im spoiled by my grammy.  You place your order in the morning and its ready by 5pm.  lol

cookie and a cupcake is really good.  Their buttercream frosting is amazing...very light and not too sweet.

On Sat, my wife and I had dinner at Tartine in Rocky River.  We really enjoyed it.  Nice cafe atmosphere.  The food was wonderful and I thought the prices were very reasonable.  Not that there weren't more expensive things on the menu, but there were lots of options in the $10 range.

I would second the opinions on a cookie and a cupcake - very very very good...my fiance and I are actually having them do our wedding cake for 450 people in June...

I heard the cupcake place in Hudson is the best in the whole area.  I'm not a cupcake fan so I can't tell you, but I've seen the cupcakes and they're pretty awesome.  Can't remember the name though, maybe someone else knows?

Congrats!  all the announcements today.

Babies...now weddings...which will lead to more babies.  lol

I haven't had time to read all of the topics today.....  Who is having a baby?

And to stay on topic:  The espresso cupcake at A Cookie and a Cupcake is to die for  :-D

EDIT:  Never mind.  Congrats rockandroller!

That's not unheard of.  My brother had 571 at his.  I've seen some 700+ weddings.

Best happy hour deals IMO: Lolita, Fahrenheit, The Flying Fig.  All have select plates between 3-6$ and a few select beers for cheap

I would add Bar Cento and One Walnut to that mix. Velvet Tango Room also has reduced cocktails (and maybe sushi on tues).

For more typical bar food and good micro brews-Chop House and Rock Bottom.

R&R a baby? where does it say that? anyway, congrats!

FYI for you and any of your friends, a vegetarian friend of mine only recently discovered (after several visits and dealing with a regular server who knew she was a vegetarian) that the fries at Bar Cento are fried in duck fat.  She was pretty pissed.  Just something to pass on.  I think they might be at Lola as well.

Yes, a little R&R is on the way, it's true.  Soon I will be on here at 3 and 4 am just for someone to talk to who isn't puking, screaming or pooping.

duck fat. no wonder they are so good.

When is the junior due? Not too many UO babies on here. They unsubscribe and join  exuburbanohio.com I guess.

p.s. at 3am I am sure many still up may well be screaming, puking or pooping as well

There is a cupcake place in the West Side Market -- outstanding cupcakes, especially the Red Velvet!

Speaking of west side market, has anyone tried the gyro place there?

LOL.  I am due 5/29 but I have to have a scheduled C due to a previous (unrelated) major abdominal surgery so the date will probably be 5/18.

Yes, they're very good.  And huge.

I'm up next for a wedding or a baby?  Wedding has to happen first - sometime within the next two years.  Baby has to happen post-graduation (and post-wedding), so sometime after May 2011.  Sorry to keep you waiting!

LOL  Its the 00's.  It doesn't have to happen that way.  LOL

See, I don't really care, but my conservative Catholic family does.......  But I really shouldn't have a baby until after graduation because I spend too much time in the lab currently working with hazardous chemicals.  When I get a real job, I'll be in a lab much less.  So unless I really want to delay graduation, I need to hold off :).

Now back to restaurants!

ok, back to restaurants.  I went to Ponte Vecchio to take advantage of their weekday prix-fixe special.  I found the food to be quite disappointing though the space is very cute. There was NOBODY else dining in here.  I feel bad when indies are doing so poorly and look like they're in danger of shutting down but given the food and the prices on their regular menu ($22 for a pasta dish?), I think they may survive.

right off the bat forti's is better name, sounds much less corporate. it's definately a good idea to have a big variety of whiskey/bourbon, especially in this economy when people will be needing it!

i hope they can hang on too. food aside, PV's viaduct views are really a great pr service to the city.

there are always certain restaurants like that one that you don't really think about until nice weather (or vice versa some you don't think of until cold weather). i imagine they all struggle somewhat regardless of the economy in their 'off season.'

Main Street Cupcakes

They're very good - wide selection of unique flavors, though only a subset on any given day.

But I've had both and I prefer A Cookie and a Cupcake.

Has anyone eaten at the Red Chimney in Slavic Village?

^ I haven't, but went by it this weekend by a family friend who lives in the neighborhood who just commented about the ultra cheap and enjoyable breakfast special.

I've eaten there.  Pretty standard family style restaurant.  Decent breakfast.  Very good perogies.

Ponte V has some excellent happy hour specials, namely 1/2 on ALL drinks, wines by the glass. I love having a quality drink OF MY CHOICE for 1/2 price. They also have some nice appetizers discounted---usually a small plate of pasta, and some other things. For dinner I think of this as an expense account type place for people with a tame palate (neither of which describes me). Nevertheless, the few meals I have eaten there have been quite good.

I love Heck's, another great place in Ohio City that has a great happy hour is Momocho, its not as good of a deal as other places already mentioned (Flying Fig, Lolita, Fahrenheit) but the food is great and its definitely worth a visit.

My oldest baby is getting married.  Daddy's little girl.  I feel so old.

Congrats R&R I hope having a child is as fulfilling for you as it was/is for me!

As a downtown worker and a bourbon nut, I welcome a bar with a wide bourbon selection to go with their beers on tap.

It will be interesting to see what is on the list of 20 premium bourbons.  There aren't that many premium bourbon pours available in Ohio, IMHO (unless you count multiple package sizes).

Was walking past the Bar One on Superior monday and thought i saw a sign in the windown saying Bar One Sushi opening soon. Anyone know anything about this??

I thought I had heard that "Bar One" closed awhile ago so maybe they are reopening as a sushi spot.

I recommend checking out Felice Urban Cafe which is located in a century home on Larchmere near Shaker Square.  I discovered it recently and enjoyed every bit of the meal, atmosphere (cozy fireplace, nicely restored home, casual, fine dining), and service.  They have a Wednesday meal special and happy hour.  Their menu is online: http://www.coolplacestoeat.com/felice.html

The jury is out for me.  When you list items as "spicy" they should be just that, "spicy".

Bistro on Lincoln Park brings Mediterranean sparkle to Tremont dining review

Friday, January 30, 2009

The lights are on again in the old two-house restaurant in Tremont, reason enough for a celebration. Bistro on Lincoln Park has moved in and made a soothingly agreeable home for itself in the place where Miracles served potato pancakes and Sage Bistro did elegant favorites.

anybody know when the Greenhouse Tavern on E 4th is opening?

Probably (early) March.  Valentines day was the goal but........  It likely wont be by then..

Apparently Nikko's/Bar Two is now closed in Lakewood.

I never had much experience with Nikko's, but I went enough to witness its different transitions. When it was just Nikko's the food was good. Then it changed to Bar 2 and it was a nice trendy alternative to the typical Lakewood pub with a nice dance floor and the sushi was surprisingly good. Then a different crowd starting hanging out there, the dance floor took over, and it was a bit warehouse district. Then they brought back the Nikko's menu and it was filthy with horrible service. I'm not surprised it closed.

Any reviews for L'albatros?
