There used to be only Mi Pueblo about 4 years ago...now we have mi pueblo, Euclid Tavern, Hookah cafe, and now the new Indian place...pretty quick addition to the little section of Euclid.

Not to mention Circle 118, the new building adjacent to the Euclid Tavern, the CIA new renovations and construction, all happening seemingly at once.

Much of this may be spin off from the construction of the Village at 115 in 2005.

EDIT: I'll let everyone know if I find out the name of the Indian place first..

"Route 6 Cafe" in the old Niko's space on Detroit  in Lakewood appeared to have their soft opening this weekend. Looks nice inside. I will try to stop in one night and report back.

^a friend of mine went last week and said the food was very good and the prices were reasonable.  Haven't been there myself, but I agree it looks nice inside.

The snobs are out on the food board! Depending on how literally you mean "fast" and "gourmet" you could certainly have them simultaneously.

I'm open to suggestions.

Seriously- that's some great progress for this stretch!

Does anyone know what is, or IF anything is becoming of the former Hornblowers location (The Barge)

That placed used to be a well run, clean, classy place...great views and atmosphere. The part owner, Tom Rayle, I think... owned the Pufferbelly in Kent, or was partnered with another while running the place. I used to do their aquarium maintenance throughout the 1990's.

It seems such a shame nothing is becoming of such a great place. The parking was free..the views were fantastic. The food used to be good... But.. ???..

I was near there tonight....and there is still a For Sale sign on the place...and a banner was hung from the entrance with the name "The Lean Dog" but the place was dead. Was that an attempt at another bar?

Any comments with what is going on there, IF anything will be going on?

the old hornblowers barge is now being used as office space for a small software company named LeanDog

^ Really??  Wow! Office space? That's the best that can become of this place? Tisk tisk.. People harp on not having 'enough' on the waterfront...  Well, Hornblowers was a great place. It was not ticky-tacky shmuck bar food... It had class, but was affordable, great atmosphere....within easy walking distance and now its gone and it becomes office space? IMO, that's pretty pathetic. Mayor White was a regular there. There was also easy access free parking, coupled with the walkability appeal. I did hear that when the original chef left to open another place..the food went down. Maybe that had something to do with it coupled with the rumor about the partnership taking a turn.

I was thinking something in there more inline with better food...coupled with a visitors center/nature center with educational exhibits on Great Lakes Wildlife..Nice combo with the submarine... Office space in what is clearly cut out for anything but that. That's my opinion... I just had higher expectations for it.

^ did you guys really enjoy the Vegiterranean that much?  My gf and I were underwhelmed by the food and ambiance when we went there earlier this summer.

I agree that the ambiance is underwhelming, but the food was excellent.

I enjoyed the food and the ambiance was ok- modern, but a little spartan.

Florida celebrity chef Dean Max opens AMP 150 in Cleveland Airport Marriott: Restaurant Row

By Joe Crea, The Plain Dealer

September 29, 2009, 9:56AM

Let's say a celebrity chef decided to open a restaurant in Northeast Ohio. Where would he locate? Tremont? Downtown, say on East Fourth Street or in the Warehouse District? East, on Shaker Square?

How about on West 150th Street?

That's one of the big surprises in the opening of AMP 150, an unlikely but most welcome arrival on the commercial corridor just off I-71. For good measure, it's in a hotel -- the Cleveland Airport Marriott, which is completing the final phase of a reported $20 million renovation.

There is no hotel in CLE.  Your second portion of your question is outlined in the new BAA information.  Check the airport thread.

Cleveland Cavaliers add 2 Michael Symon restaurants to Quicken Loans Arena lineup

The restaurants are Symon's B Spot, named after the eatery Mr. Symon soon will open in Woodmere, and Bar Symon at The Q, named after his recently opened restaurant in Avon Lake.

symon has gotta be a millionaire by now, no? almost seems like he's aiming for bazillionaire with all the new joints opening!

I hope he doesn't spread himself too thin and oversaturate.  I cannot imagine how you could operate a restaurant in the Q and not have irritated patrons. I picture descending at once, all wanting to be served at the same time and then bam, it's deserted once the game starts.

^I'm not concerned with either of those issues.

It' brand extension.  Why not attach yourself to a winner?  They have catering contracts built into the agreements as well, see the crains link below.

He's a celebrity chef, it all adds to the energy that Gilbert has built.  We have celebs and A-Listers coming to games.  We're an elite team in a big market, people expect this.  No longer are NY and LA the only teams that can simply due this just because they are NY and LA.  Cleveland has a winning team and the better your team the more you need to offer those with suites and club seats as well as the regular fan who wants to feel like he/she is part of the "action".

Add one more big-name addition to the Cleveland Cavaliers' roster for the 2009-10 season: superchef Michael Symon.

The Cavs and concessionaire Aramark announced in a news release Thursday that they will open two Symon-branded restaurants inside Quicken Loans Arena: Symon's B Spot, named after the restaurant Mr. Symon soon will open at Eton Chagrin Boulevard in Woodmere, and Bar Symon at The Q, named after Mr. Symon's recently opened restaurant in Avon Lake.

its official / last night we finalized the purchase of the happy dog on west 58 + detroit / im very excited to be a part of the new + energized gordan square district / i had an opportunity to partner up with my friends rini mcnulty + sean kilbane (who is a great foh guy + musician) / the plan is to clean + do a small "rearrangment" of the space but keeping that old bar-diner-hall feel / hope to be open by 10/17 / the focus will be on creating a cool corner bar that continues to have live music from both local + national musicians / as for the food ... we will be serving only 2 items / an all beef chicago style hot dog + fresh cut fries / the catch is we will offer 50 plus home made toppings ranging from unique ketchups + mustards, pickled vegetables, bleu cheese coleslaw, + chorizo chili, to some cool stuff like house made korean kim chee, cola + soy braised baby bok choy, or vodka saurkraut / the combinations are endless / as for the name ... possible plans for a new name that not only captures the venue but also celebrates the history of the neighborhood / thanx for all your continued support + we look forward to seeing you soon

Hahaha, gotta say that's the first time I've ever been called an A-Listed Hipster.  Mr. DocBroc is great with terrible puns.....  I guess it's starting to rub off, but he is still better than me by far!

Well honey work your new found notoriety!  Work that 15 minutes of fame!  Sashay-Shante!

The Happy Dog used to have a lot of veg options. Since the current (previous) owner took over a few years ago, they've pared down the number of veg-friendly dishes pretty significantly.

Looks like there have been two closings in Old Brooklyn:

* The Expressway Diner, a neighborhood greasy spoon spot where you could get virtually anything you want, has removed signage and anything else to indicate that it was there.  It's a shame because the building was just built within the last ten years.

Anyone know what happened?  I saw people working in there this afternoon while I was driving by, but couldn't tell what they were doing.

* Zeleznik's, about a half-mile south of Steelyard, was closed last night and all of the events were removed from the sign.  They advertising selling some of its fixtures.  It's been empty on weekend nights, but has also been packed at times, and I've heard about some of its struggles from its owners.  Anyone know what's going on?

Made my way over to Indian Flame which is the new Indian Restaurant on Euclid Ave. just east of Mi Pueblo that was mentioned in some posts on the previous page. Typical lunch buffet set up. Not impressed with the food, but not unedible either. Typical indian buffet offerings but really no heat and very little saltiness to the dishes. The two big downsides are that parking is quite difficult during the lunch hour and that we had to wait about 10 minutes in between Naan servings as they were only bringing out a few pieces at a time. Hopefully just initial kinks. I still feel it will fair well as the only Indian option near a fairly multicultural campus.

This is not a discussion about meat vs. vegetarian diets. If it continues I will be forced to chew your meaty ass off.

"In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

they will have an all veg hot dog too...

I would very much like for this place to eventually aspire towards Chicago's Hot Doug's, but I will be more than happy to enjoy their variety of cased meats and not-meats before going to the Capitol.

Oh no, don't change the name!!!! The bar has a terrific reputation, why would you abandone that?

Damn, I was really looking forward to their corned beef and cabbage on St. Pats Day again.

Don't know but was dissapointed to see.  As you mentioned, there have been peopel working on the interior since they took the signs away.  We could hope that it's some remodeling (hopefully removal of the dusty plastic plants all over) and reopen as another dining option.  I almost thing a 50's style ice cream/burger hot dog joint would work fine there.  There still is a lot of children in that part of OB.

^ Happily, Zeleznik's isn't closed.

I was hoping for a Balinese restaurant.

It looks like the old Vivo space is going to be some sort of martini bar.

^ I just walked through the Arcade yesterday during lunch and saw the signs and came by to see if anyone had posted about it. Thoughts on the concept?

In many cities you now see some variation of a chocoloate cafe...  (Not all of them serving liquor)

Even DC has a couple versions (now), not as extensive as this one seems it will be, and they are not known for their progressive food scene.

I think it is a good concept (since people seemed impressed with the Buffalo version).  But Im not yet clear of the full concept of this one.

Im glad something is going into that great space, although sad that Vivo didnt make it there.

Im extra glad that its not another sports bar!

on another note: i went to ohio city burrito yesterday and it was wonderful. the burrito's are $6.15 for chicken, barbacoa or carnitas (no steak available). they've only been open since this past monday so they are a bit slow on the service as they are still training new employees, but i suspect this will be a great addition to the neighborhood. i'll be going there instead of driving down to steel yard anytime i need gourmet mexican fast food fix.

i stopped in yesterday at ohio city burrito and was impressed overall.  good burrito, lots of hot sauces to choose from, cozy space.  i'm excited to have this new option in ohio city and hope it does well.

^^I hear you about it not being another sports bar, but the web site from the Buffalo location of Chocolate Bar made the place look a little cheesy to me.  Maybe the whole martini thing biased me.  I guess I side with the Velvet Tango Room folks- to quote from the NYTimes recent 36 hours in Cleveland piece: Yes, as their menu explains, you can order a chocolate-tini — “But we die a little bit every time.”

http://travel.nytimes.com/2009/09/20/travel/20hours.html

But good luck to them- I hope they can expand some of the E4th St. energy onto that part of Euclid.

Yes I loved that quote...  Should be good for the E. 4th crowd though...

Best chocolate martinis in town has to be at Pickwick.  And they're only $5 during happy hour

I think Souper Market should team up with either Phoenix coffee or Arabica, now that they are centralized
