March 10, 201114 yr If you read the communication put out this bakery is NOT closing permanently, they are moving to another location. Well, I'm sure they will be, but it makes me sad that they lost their business.
March 10, 201114 yr The article clearly says they closed. I don't see anything about them moving, was that mentioned somewhere else? "the former Lelolai Bakery space on W. 25th, which recently closed after exactly 10 years" - nothing else mentioned.
March 10, 201114 yr It was mentioned in the PD article that was posted and talked about in the Ohio City thread.
March 10, 201114 yr Oh, ok. Didn't know about that, I don't actually read ALL the threads on UO, as much as I'd like to! thx.

March 10, 201114 yr hmm, that sounds less hopeful than I would like, but hopefully they'll open somewhere else.
March 11, 201114 yr There's a couple of new places that just opened/opening up around town: Name unknown" - located in the old Mama Mia's of Lakewood, this is going to be a healthy fast food place. Not yet open. Sorry for vague info, I am just trying to share what I do know, hopefully others can share more info. Looks like its called Barroco Grill. Seems like they are near opening, though they don't give a date. I like their logo and print ads....they are well done. Very excited to check it out and try the food. http://www.facebook.com/Barrocogrill
March 14, 201114 yr /\/\/\ You're right. A little money spent on good branding goes a long way. Food looks good. Marlin Kaplan Latest Big-Name Chef to Hit W. 25th Posted by Douglas Trattner on Mon, Mar 14, 2011 at 9:01 AM Look for another huge name in Cleveland dining to crash the W. 25th Street party. Marlin Kaplan is teaming up with Garage Bar owners Jeff Allison and Adam Waldbaum to rebrand Dragonfly (1865 W. 25th St., 216-696-7774, www.dragonflycleveland.com) as a "nouvelle American/Asian-fusion restaurant." Following a brief closer this month, the dewy new Dragonfly will emerge the first week of April. http://www.clevescene.com/scene-and-heard/archives/2011/03/14/marlin-kaplan-latest-big-name-chef-to-hit-w-25th
March 14, 201114 yr ^ fewwww, they're keeping the sushi. I happen to think its some of the best in the city.
March 14, 201114 yr ^ fewwww, they're keeping the sushi. I happen to think its some of the best in the city. Glad to see Kimo is staying on for the sushi. Hawaii's loss has been our gain here in CLE. That guy is a wizard!!!
March 21, 201114 yr Luchitas Express in University Circle was empty today with a for lease sign in the window. Any idea what happened here?
March 21, 201114 yr Luchitas Express in University Circle was empty today with a for lease sign in the window. Any idea what happened here? Nope, it was open one day and closed the next. Their food really wasn't that good, IMO.
March 21, 201114 yr I thought the House of Cues was turning into a Martini and Wine Bar?? That was the rumor, yes. The tanning place there closed too, but I think that whole chain may have gone under as I saw them also clearing out their location on Clifton.
March 21, 201114 yr hopefully they'll open somewhere else. as I understand it, the empty space across from visible voice in tremont, formerly a dry cleaner and a pizza joint that ran afoul of zoning, is being rented and renovated by someone who, "already has a bakery on the west side." I for one look forward to walking twenty feet for baked goods.
March 21, 201114 yr I saw a little sign for a place in the 815 Superior building called "Near the Beach Cafe" today. Anyone been?
March 21, 201114 yr I was at Honey Hut the other day and I noticed a sign saying that they will be opening a store at Edgewater Park later this spring.
March 21, 201114 yr ^ My girlfriend almost lost her mind when I told her that. Any idea where in the park they plan to locate?
March 21, 201114 yr I don't know, but if I had to guess, I'd say it'd be at the east end of the beach.
March 24, 201114 yr 'authentic' chili restaurant to debut on lorain avenue Thursday, March 24, 2011 Source: Ian P.E. Writer: Lee Chilcote Palookaville Chili, a new restaurant set to open next month in Ohio City, is seeking to reeducate your taste buds. Owner and budding chef Ian P.E., who says he makes "a mean pot of chili," offers a blunt description of what will set his place apart. "This is gourmet chili, not the slop you'll find at most places," boasts P.E., who lived in San Francisco before returning to Cleveland in 2007. "Most chili is tomato-based and uses ground beef and cinnamon, whereas our beef is cubed, and we use cumin, green chili and poblano peppers. It's based off classic Southwestern cuisine and pretty spicy." http://www.freshwatercleveland.com/devnews/palookavillechili032411.aspx
March 24, 201114 yr Most chili is tomato-based and uses ground beef and cinnamon Isn't that skyline chili's claim to fame?
March 24, 201114 yr Most chili is tomato-based and uses ground beef and cinnamon Isn't that skyline chili's claim to fame? Yeah, and Skyline is certainly slop in my book.
March 24, 201114 yr No mention of the Wolfgang Puck eatery going into the UH Ireland Cancer Center? Id post the article, but am mobile at the moment.

March 24, 201114 yr Matt Fish Divulges Third Melt is in the Works Posted by Douglas Trattner on Thu, Mar 24, 2011 at 1:07 PM Matt Fish has just divulged that he has signed a lease to open his third Melt Bar and Grilled. Located in a suburb south of Cleveland, the new location is slated to open by late September of this year. "The location is strategically located between Cleveland and Akron," Fish explains. "We want to start tapping into the Akron market," many of whom only visit on special occasions. http://www.clevescene.com/scene-and-heard/archives/2011/03/24/matt-fish-divulges-third-melt-is-in-the-works
March 24, 201114 yr "The location is strategically located between Cleveland and Akron," Fish explains. "We want to start tapping into the Akron market," many of whom only visit on special occasions. Then put it in Akron! Richfield didn't work out so well for the Coliseum.

Then put it in Akron! Richfield didn't work out so well for the Coliseum. Highland Square will welcome you with open arms! Hopefully not Rt18/ Fairlawn, I would bet somewhere along the Rt 8 corridor.I also just had the thought, maybe Pennisula? Are there any vacancies down there currently?
March 24, 201114 yr Most chili is tomato-based and uses ground beef and cinnamon Isn't that skyline chili's claim to fame? Yeah, and Skyline is certainly slop in my book. Skyline is not tomato based, but does include the cinnamon. Since I moved up to Cleveland this is the thing I miss the most. I know no one from Cleveland can appreciate a fine Coney or 3-way. After all when they order a coney dog they expect slop and cheese on it. :D
March 24, 201114 yr Cincinnati chili is not "slop," as described so eloquently (or was that just a reference to Skyline?). I love it. Bon Appetit magazine published a recipe earlier this year (in an article highlighting regional chilies), though this one calls for lamb (?!), among a couple of other less than authentic ingredients--http://www.bonappetit.com/recipes/2011/02/cincinnati_chili http://www.mainstreetpainesville.org/
March 24, 201114 yr I believe the new Melt location is where the Winking Lizard in Independence is located. I heard the Winking Lizard is moving across Rockside Road.
March 24, 201114 yr I wonder if Melt is going into that development across the street (maybe in addition to the Lizard). Fish said it will be nice to deal with new construction. While the Lizard's current space is certainly newer than the Lakewood and CH locations, it is not new construction.
March 24, 201114 yr Since I moved up to Cleveland this is the thing I miss the most. Huh? There's Skyline Chili's in the Cleveland area. EVD, I wasn't referring to Cincinnati-style chili in general, just Skyline Chili. I love chili, and Cincinnati style is good (not my favorite though, I prefer spicy to sweet), but Skyline (IMO) isn't good by any stretch of the imagination.
March 25, 201114 yr Melt is going in new building across street from Winking's independence location. Their liquor license was applied for in Dec. I posted the address on Melt's Facebook today, but they quickly removed it. Can be found online easily.
March 25, 201114 yr Skyline is a "taste" whether you love it or not (I do from my years down in Cincy....) The three local locations (Brooklyn, mayfield, stow) are fine, but never really seem to have caught on, but in Cincy, they are a part of the culture.... a skyline, gold star or other type is on every block.
March 25, 201114 yr Independence is tapping the Akron market? That's only 15 minutes closer than Lakewood.
March 25, 201114 yr Independence is tapping the Akron market? That's only 15 minutes closer than Lakewood. My thoughts exactly. I think he's just tapping the southern suburban market. I wish he'd open a place in the city proper.
March 25, 201114 yr Akron or Cleveland proper? or both :) In Akron Pasqueliic would probably get him a building built/renovated in DT or Highland square if Matt Fish came knocking. That man gets things done.

Exactly, I have been to the Brooklyn location. And it just didn't seem right. I havent been back in a while it may be time to try again.
March 27, 201114 yr So I went to the new soda ice cream place at Gordon arts district for today's opening. Pro: Apparently there was a ton of business all day, which is great to hear. Plus substantial free parking around the area was nice. Con: The food wasn't that good for the price, which was astronomically expensive. No way I'm going back just on the price alone. Plus it didn't have the old school feel I had been anticipating. Plus a few of the servers were too catty with each other and immature overall. Plus there's too little seating. Plus there are these weird, empty hallways that lead to the bathroom. Paint the walls or put more photos of old school Cleveland or something - it just looked odd. Plus, did I mention how pricey that place is??? Really con: A hearty f!!k you Cleveland city planners for making it so inpossible to take a right turn off Superior by and east of public square! The only way I can, I think, is to drive on the bus lane, which may or may not be illegal. What a confusing mess!!!!!!!!!! Yeah, I guess that's not relevant to the soda place. Overall, I hope it does well but I was not impressed. Cool street though.
March 27, 201114 yr I went to Holy Moses Soda fountain today and actually liked it a lot. It was $4.50 for a decent sized root beer float with homebrewed rootbeer and homemade icecream which I thought was really good. That really is not that bad in my opinion for what the product was although not cheap. It did not have quite as much of an old school feel as I had imagined but was was pretty nicely set up overall. I thought they had a LOT of seating for an icecream shop. I think it just seemed small because the place was packed today because of the grand opening. I think it makes a nice addition to the neighborhood and is a good place to grab dessert for anyone coming out of the movies or nearby restaurants.
