There was that little incident at the end of October that nearly wiped out Angelos.  So Musky, dont you have a relative working there? (maybe thats why your pizzas may be greasy and the sausage give you heartburn)

"He had to have been going 45 (mph) at least," said Nicole Muscatello, who was working at Angelo's when it happened.

Hey, how'd you know my last name? ;)

I'm told all Muscatello's are related in some way. I think she is like a fourth cousin (that's legal, right?)

@darth, I am a member of the My Neighborhood crew.  We're excited to welcome you to the neighborhood. Even though I will not be able to attend the event, our organization will be well represented. Everyone else, please check out the Portside Distillery. It is going to be a great addition to the Warehouse District as well as the East Bank of the Flats.

Does Cleveland have any good Neapolitan style pizza places these days?

Many have popped up here in Chicago over the last several years, which is fine by me because the traditional Chicago thin-crust (yes, there is such a thing) is nothing to write home about in my book. Pizza joints will oddly cut round pizzas into squares here for some reason.

Angelo's only problem is parking....it's almost non-existent.  For all you transit buffs, I just don't see taking a fresh Angelo's Pizza onto an RTA bus as being an option....LOL.

That's why God invented deliverymefood.com. And you would be VERY surprised what people will bring on the bus or train!

Yes, Crostatas is supposed to be great Neapolitan style pizza, although I havent tried it yet.

I voted for Marcella's in Parma at Pleasant Valley and York.

Capri in Middleburg has great pizza also.  My wife discovered Capri when preganant with our first.

may be late notice, but we're having a Groundbreaking Celebration for Portside Distillery. Come on down, great drinks and entertainment and all profits go to Old Stone Education Center. Tell the Ladies at the door you know Dan, and they will let you in for free.

LOL!  Actually, I wouldn't.  I was a daily rider for several years, both regular transit and the red line.

With Angelo's, I was thinking more of the moocher factor than normal rules or decorum.  :)

angelo's is pretty similar to pizza hut

i like andaloro's in willowick, gaudy interior notwithstanding

Capri in Middleburg Heights has good Neapolitan style pizza.

There is a sign for Barroco Grill posted with the opening of the cigar/liquor/wine shop that will be opening on West 6th street in the Warehouse District.  I know there is a Barroco Grill in Lakewood. It should be a good quick spot to pick up a bite to eat.  www.barrocogrill.com

I'm not 100% sure... but I believe it will be in the old caddyshack. or at least that was the rumor I heard a while back.

New today... the windows of Caddyshack are papered, permits (Im pretty sure) are taped to the windows, and dumpsters are parked out front (likely ready for interior demo).

I'd say this must be for Dim and Den Sum, or whatever it will be called.

It's going to be a coffee shop.  I talked to the guy who was working on the front.

^ Good.  I dont think Hodgesons place would be a great fit down there.  He is funky and so is his cuisine.  I see his style restaurant going over in our food district somewhere on the west side.

"It's going to be a coffee shop."

Good,  that's even better news. I'd prefer it on Euclid. Ideally in the post-WW2 Berlin storefront in the WT Grant building... the remainig eyesore of that part of downtown (2nd & Euclid).

And one in Ohio City too

From Dim and Den Sum FB: 8 days til the anouncement of our location. Its gonna be a big one.

Boo. Fat Fish Blue is closing. It once anchored a buddinng Warehouse District years ago and then moved to Lwr Prospect. Must've given Steve Zamborsky a pretty penny since that is a prime corner now with the Casino coming.

The Tilted Kilt? omg.

Gone Fishin'  Downtown stalwart Fat Fish Blue to close by year's end

For nearly two decades, Fat Fish Blue has been downtown's place to be for Mardi Gras, New Year's Eve — heck, even a regular Tuesday-night happy hour

From Hodge's Facebook:

Hodge Podge Truck

‎"Hodge's" restaurant will be located in downtown Cleveland, very excited to be a part of the heart of the city.... and dont worry we have our own parking ;) no need to pay.

Could Hodge be moving into the Fat Fish blue space?  Is there space on east 4th?  Going to be interesting...wish it was going to the near west side.

Can't say I'm surprised. The last few times I walked by there (often on weekend evenings), the place wasn't very full. The last time, the band members and staff outnumbered the customers.

Doesn't the old Verve/Juniper Grill space have their own  parking lot?

Regarding Hodge Podge restaurant:

Old Verve/Juniper space - that was my first thought. I did find the Facebook of the business there now, however, Carnegie Kitchen & Catering and they were posting away today like it was business as usual... I noticed that the former Cooperstown (then Local Heroes) was closed for remodeling and there is a lot next to it but no idea if it is theirs...... Wonder if it could be there - though (just like Verve space) it is a bit off beaten path on non-game nights...

One more idea... What about the corner, ground floor space of new casino parking garage... Listed as a restaurant in plans.  I had wondered if that might end up being the location of the B Spot that is noted for casino - since it was also stated no sit down (other than buffet) inside casino - and this isn't inside... There would certainly be "parking" as Hodge notes... and high profile corner... really high profile when casino opens - end of March - same time as was stated for Hodge restaurant...

Crap.  That leaves a major opening in the area for even close-to-authentic cajun, AFAIK.

I think the Cooperstown space is a good guess because who else has their own parking lot?

This was posted in Ohio City thread, but in case you don't read it - SoHo Kitchen & Bar on W 25th opens tonight!!!

re: fat fish blue... that is going to be some terrible place called the "tilted kilt". The former local heroe's is going to be a place called lucky's... so I think those can be ruled out for "hodge's"

Hmm. Ok now I really want to know where Hodge's will be! Anyone else have any ideas? I can't think of very many places that are downtown that have a parking lot which are currently available.

I think most of us would say Ohio City is not downtown - but could he mean Ohio City???

Yeah, I really thought he woudl end up in OC. I wonder if that's where he meant but is calling it downtown.

^Hodge has a tendency to tease and mislead intentionally on his facebook posts.  I dont think he knows everything about the city of cleveland yet either, even though he is from the area.  I wouldnt be shocled if it was OC, either

It seems like it has to be OC based on the parking comment.

For the last couple weeks I was thinking it was Gillespie's building under renovation at W. 25th & Jay. I think interior work there recently started. And there is a parking lot in the back asscociated wth the old Jay Lofts.

re: fat fish blue... that is going to be some terrible place called the "tilted kilt".

You're not kidding with the "terrible."  I cannot describe the sinking feeling inside of me when I read this news.  I feel like I'm being punished for making fun of downtown Denver last year after being sent to their Tilted Kilt by a hotel concierge.  Which makes me think that Cleveland Independents should be sure to have an extensive outreach effort with hotel staff to ensure the same thing doesn't happen to our visitors.

Yeah, I'm just doubly disappointed here. Not only is it not an indie going into that space, but a place like this? I'm all for the glorification of women for profit, and if I want that, I happily go to the Diamond or Christie's. I suppose those who were fans of fat fish blue's food are triply disappointed on top of it. I didn't go there as I didn't care for their food, but to have this cavernous space filled with a chain that is described as having "countless big screen TVs" and women whoring around in suggestive plaid outfits, it just sounds awful.

The Tilted Kilt in C-bus is always packed.  I think they are opening one in Canton as well.

Oh I didn't say it wouldn't be packed. There is still a 2 hour wait for the Olive Garden every saturday too.

^that still blows me away that people would eat there. SMH

Yes this Tilted Kilt is a big minus, i think. I wish a chain like PF Chang was setting up there.

look at it this way though. It'll keep a lot of heterosexual males on the street, headed into this place and out of any skywalk. 365 days a year, or close to it.

Agreed.  Why don't thy just call the place "Double D's"? or the "Plunging Neckline"

When I was living in Scottsdale, Arizona the Tilted Kilt was a good place to watch football games on Sundays.  Heck I even found a few fellow Browns fans to commiserate with.  I didn't even realize it was a chain, but regardless, I didn't think there was anything terrible about the place.  Certainly nothing special, but terrible?  That's a bit of a stretch IMO.  I understand why people wouldn't want to see any chain go into that space, though.

Personally I feel it's a tacky hooters, with an Irish twist.  Something independent and local should be there.  Am I happy the space, on a prominent corner, will not be vacant?  Yes?  Am I happy with what is filling the vacancy, no!  Looks like they strictly took the place due to its proximity to the Casino.  That is the casino's target market.

^It is not vacant

I never said it was.  To clarify, I'd rather see a business, even one I don't agree/like, in a space instead of having a vacant space.

Ahem:

Well apparently, like with the Bar Louie space in the Warehouse district, the Kilt folks offered Mr. Zamborsky something that him and his investors couldn't refuse for the space.

Despite the often light crowds, they did do ok there and were not planning to close.  The Cincinnati outpost that they opened on the other hand, they took a bath on.

Yes, the food is terrible and the menu is very unimaginative. I wouldn't be surprised if most things came in frozen.

Not much better IMO. I don't think downtown has the draw / density yet for a big chain to locate there. People still expect parking next to the front door.

Terrible to lose Fat Fish Blue but I totally understand the economics. We are going to start seeing more chains in that area, with all of the Drivers coming in to play the Casino. I am sure they made Fat Fish Blue an offer they simply couldn't refuse.. b/c that restaurant is going to do very well there, it pains me to say.

I think with the Casino going in, Yanni, that chains will start to increase.. just like they did when the Flats was in its heyday. But your right, not on a large scale.

Anyways, RIP Fat Fish Blue. Maybe they will relocate?

I enjoyed Fat Fish Blue and disappointed to see it go.  Regardless of what one thinks of this place (I'll reserve judgment until I actually go to one)....the fact that national chains are now picking downtown Cleveland as a place that makes business sense - is a positive.  For a long time, it had been difficult to even have a national chain even consider downtown Cleveland.

If it's not your thing, don't go.  There are plenty of other fantastic locally owned places Downtown.

True and it's a catch 22 situation.  We in Cleveland in general love our home grown restaurants.  We need to make sure our chains, understand their going into the city core and should come in with a "suburban" (no shade to the suburbanites) mentality.

I'm trying to remember where the first FFB was located. I remember being there plenty of times, but where was it?
