I don't think it will take as much business from CH as you might think. I work in Mentor and trust me, the CH location isn't 'easy' to get to from Mentor. You either have to get off the shoreway and zig zag through local roads, or get off Cedar Rd from 271 and drive Cedar a few miles. You really have to want to get there, and while this is more of a generalization, my own opinion is that there's not that many Lake County denizens actively making that trip on a regular basis.

From my many years working in Mentor, Cleveland Heights might as well have been Alaska to most of those I worked with - so I'm also guessing Melt CH isn't going to take a hit from a Mentor location.

^ i dont understand this.  Fish had them hooked.  He had the suburb people coming into the city and inner ring suburbs for a grilled cheese sandwich.  Now he has given them a free pass to stay out in the burbs.  SMH

Winking Lizard has a pretty good business model for being successful in the suburbs.

It took them a while before landing a downtown location.  Now with "lizardville" they will have two

Lizard was growing at a time when the only reason people came Downtown was to watch the Indians. If they would have just opened their first location a couple of years ago in a suburb somewhere it would be a different story.

Ferris Steak House moving to old Rockcliff, in Rocky River

Plans to relocate Ferris Steak House are finally moving ahead. Co-owner Bruce Ferris is taking over O'Malley's Rockcliff, 2589 Wooster Road in Rocky River, to create a new home for the restaurant.

First opened at 8700 Detroit Ave. in 1946, the steakhouse has been a West Side landmark for generations. In January 2010, Ferris announced his intention to move the business to a space formerly occupied by the defunct Swingo's on the Lake in The Carlyle on Lakewood's Gold Coast.

Those plans unraveled and eventually were abandoned.

"This one's a done deal," Ferris says. "We've already bought the property."

Sucks for the Detroit Shoreway neighborhood. Short-sited vision by the Ferris family, IMO.

^im upset about this.  I was lobbying to the Ferris family for quite a while to move to gordon square where there is no steakhouse.  It fell on def ears.

I think this is a great location for them. My Mom is in their customer base and quit going long ago because she was uncomfortable about the neighborhood. I can't even get her to go to Sweet Moses with me in G/S, but she will definitely go in this location. I think G/S has a little ways to go before they could support something like a steakhouse, JMO and I hope they get there sooner rather than later.

I can say with no doubt that one of the best rib eyes I've ever had was at Luxe

This was in an e-mail to existing tenants of the Superior and City Club buildings, both owned by EV Bishoff (more was in it, posted in the Cleveland downtown office news thread)....

Black Dog Kitchen and Bar will bring an eclectic variety of regional foods, burgers, and tapas to the Cleveland area, using an array of Ohio local farmers. Black Dog Kitchen and Bar will be opened on the first floor of the City Club building soon!

^Good, keep'em coming.

Another one opening soon. Im looking forward to Heck's burgers on this side of the river.

So they'll gain a customer with your Mom, but lose two with my wife and me.

It looks fairly close to opening. New signage and awnings still needed.

It's hard to say. Example, I've been waiting on Barroco's W. 6th location for a long time now.

So here is a casual dining restaurant with 11am to Midnight hours.  Now those who complained/comments on restaurants like these in Cleveland, here is your chance to support a business you say we need!

Has anyone heard or know if work continues on Bridgeview Tavern and Co. which was going into the old Bridgeview Cafe on Lorain? Supposedly they wanted to open June 2 but I havnt heard anything

Could have already been posted, but I saw new signage for an ice cream shop named 'Churned' on Kenilworth in Tremont [around the corner from civilization]. It's the former storefront of a Dish TV reseller, roughly 1112 kenilworth... http://g.co/maps/8vnve

Yes its the Cookie and a Cupcake people.

Today someone told me that they heard the Glass Bubble Project in Ohio City is moving and a cupcake place called "Intoxicating cupcakes" (if I remember correctly) is moving into that space.  I have a hard time believing it because the Glass Bubble space is essentially a garage and would take a lot of work to make it into a space to serve food and it doesn't have a "street" presence.  Anyone have any idea if this is correct or what they might be referring to?

Gia Lai restaurant - an independent, regionally owned "Rice. Pho. Bistro" spot opened today at Legacy Village, in the old Talbot's Kids spot (another retail chain that closed all stores, leaving Legacy with a 2-3 year vacancy in that spot...). My wife and daughter went and like it very, very much - but found it surprising in that it is a full sit-down Vietnamese restaurant - not the quick service (Noodles & Company, etc..) type they'd assumed... competing directly with long-standing Asian-themed Stir Crazy - mere feet away.  Strange that Legacy would lease it that way, that Stir Crazy would allow it, that Gia Lai owners would want it that way. Also, said the menu was mostly in Vietnamese - so ordering required phonetic butchering of item names to the Vietnamese server - which might be expected in Asia Town - but which won't necessarily give all suburbanites the warm and fuzzy...

whatever happens i hope glass bubble stays close, that is an important part to the neighborhood.

Thanks! Looks good!

I dont like being the bearer of bad tidings especially re this, but some of the fianancial backers have pulled out of the Santorini Restaurant venture on W. 25th in OC so it will not be happening. Tommy says he still has the desire to put a Greek restaurant somewhere in the urban core but this  one is off the table. This sucks.

Super bummed. MAJORLY.

Well anyway to get my mind off that^ for a minute... I was at a red light and decided to snap a pic of the Black Pig logo (i had to become a contortionist as this lady walked right up to the crosswalk and shielded me from an easy pic).

I like it.

Isn't Luxe a pretty nice/quality restaurant that is right in the heart of G/S?  Stone Mad, which seems more br than restaurant but is still reasonably a quality place, is just a few blocks away from G/S... With all due respect to your Mom, I think her perception is not matching up with the current reality (something I have to battle with my own Mom and her dated perceptions of Cleveland, as well).

Most of the Luxe clientele is affluent suburbanites and trendy urbanites.

Ok I have to hear this one, what FACTS are you basing this on because I can't wait to respond.....

Well, I've only been to Luxe twice and I've never seen any elderly people in there. Or even people in their 50s.

I've been to the tilted kilt in columbus and the one in belden village a couple of times. I cannot recall those areas raising a ruckus in puritanical Ohio about the lack of clothing. Since it is a new location they over-hire and also bring girls in from the Canton location until things calm down.  If the employees are not offended neither am I.  Since the OP drove by and didn't go in how does he know it was classless?  The girls that i have talked have really sweet personalities. They aren't trying to hustle you for something.  I will not have a problem taking a date there and/or out of town friends.  I really don't get the ambivalence.

I recall seeing a tilted kilt on the free shuttle in downtown Denver too.  I wonder if people howled out there about it when they opened.

Just like the girls at the gentleman's clubs, right?

I have been to the one in Pittsburgh, and it's classless. I can't imagine a family walking in there.

This September, chef Scott Kim will open his second restaurant in Cleveland. The Pan-Asian restaurant, to be named Accent, will be housed in one of the new buildings as part of the much-anticipated Uptown development at Euclid and E 115th, near University Circle.

Accent will reside in the unique egg-shaped enclosed space at the end of the corridor adjacent to the Cleveland Institute of Art.  The signature red back-lit design will create a sexy and inspiring ambiance for the location. The space will also feature a large outdoor dining patio complete with a fireplace to extend the outdoor dining season.

Kim also owns SASA in Shaker Square.

I really don't recall any great ground swell of objection to the place in Cleveland in general.  It does seem to be the general consensus on this board that it is a tacky concept and a poor sub for Fat Fish Blues.  Maybe people on this board just have more class (we certainly are more vocal).

Sounds lovely....  Also it shouldnt be long till the Chipotle opens at Uptown, since they are advertising for postions there.

And Jonathon Sawyer is in Italy (apprenticing?) for a bit - wonder if he's trying to get some pointers for his Uptoen Italian place?

I agree it would be better as ffb. It is certainly tackier as its a national chain with a fairly risque dress code theme. But maybe i don't go there enough, i don't see the classless side. It is a sports bar. What steps does a bar have to go to to be labelled as classless?  I would not expect to see people having Sunday family dinner there.  But it really is a free country though, so i wouldn't be surprised at any families that would go there.  To me its not much different than walking into a winking lizard except the servers seem to sit down at the table and talk to you at tilted kilt.  I see plenty of families at the lizard.  I don't know what would offend those same people by being at the tilted kilt.  If Cleavelanders hate seeing cleavage, then don't go there because you might see some there.

^He's been posting all sorts of pictures on Instagram for the past 2 weeks of the place and food

Oh man, I have to check that out.  Guess I finally need to figure out what this "Instagram" thing is all about.

UPDATE: Oh man, I am officially excited for whatever Sawyer opens at Uptown.  And also very hungry now.  http://twitter.com/#!/chefsawyer

I freaking hate people that choose to ignore the 100 or so photo services that interact with Twitter and make me open new tabs.  #firstworldproblems

^But he deserves your forgiveness and undying admiration if he brings lardo and chestnuts to Cleveland.  OMFG: http://instagr.am/p/K4mrUCwfpo/

^Tilted Kilt and the Winking Lizard aren't even on the same planet.  Have you seen what they were at TK?  It's not just the cleavage, it's a short skirt, tied up white button up and bra.  I don't really have a problem with their dress at all, but it really is world's apart from the Winking Lizard where they wear T-shirts and jeans...

^Plus I'm guessing the staff at Winking Lizard isn't paid specifically to flirt with the clientele.  I'm not offended by TK, and don't think anyone suggested it should be shut down by the vice squad, but I personally think it's an icky combo of cheesy and generic and have no qualms admitting that I wish something else were there instead.  Both for my own enjoyment, and because this is a high profile location that will help form some impressions of our downtown.

I stopped in TK, briefly for a beer.  Yeah, it's a form of Hooters, but after the initial eye candy, it really is just a crowded sports bar.  Like the proliferation of flat screens everywhere -- including little ones over the urnials in the men's room... Really, though, the most interesting thing to me was sitting at the table looking out over the Prospect-Ontario intersection watching the flood of gamblers/Horseshoe visitors pouring across the intersection of what, just over a week ago, was a dead corner of downtown.

I'll ask some girls that work there, but i don't believe they are "paid to flirt" with customers.  I think as part of their training is to be more sociable than other places and that means spending time talking. The philosophy is actually a very good one in customer relations because it becomes for a lack of a better term "sticky".  So i do not see it as flirting at all. I see it as making the customer not seem like a number and trying to hustle customers out for new ones. I've had a good time the three times I've been to the tk in Canton. The first time they were giving me free drinks and food for their soft opening. So how couldn't i. The last couple times I've just sat at the bar and been entertained there by the antics, expressions, and comments from the bartenders.

As far as the outfit, i think once we get into July and see what the average twenty-something female in the city wears when it gets hot out or for a night on the town, it won't be a big deal.

From today. Getting close to opening...

Looks great. Visual evidence of the spreading success of e 4th?

p.s. I love the look of Euclid Ave. I am not sure if there's another street in the world quite like it.

Had lunch at Chinatos on Monday. Food was fine, hostess a bit cold, bus boy very good with constant refilling bread/water, server a nice kid.

you want to like potbelly...reality is its a glorified arbys. well i shouldnt be so harsh, its ok, my expectations were probably too high.  i suggest you skip the seasoning salt and get the peppers, which add zest yet arent too spicy.
