Potbelly's invitation only warm opening is Tuesday the 5th of June.  I'll post a review Tuesday afternoon.

First off, they take your order when you walk in on a wireless tablet.  There were at least twenty people ahead of me.  Before I knew it I was handed a drink cup and looking for a seat.  From a service standpoint, if you are looking for something quick on your lunch break, they don't dissapoint.  From a food standpoint, I only had one item, the Grilled Chicken & Cheddar Original Sandwich, so I can't say much beyond I would have it again.  They were walking around the tables giving out cookies which were good too.  It has a good fun atmosphere, the staff behind the counter let out a big round of applause when they cleared a long line.

I'll be back.

Two late-night spots coming to downtown... first up and most notable, it seems DPDough is moving into 230 Euclid Avenue where Jimmy John's used to be. According to the door they will be open until 4AM

thx for the update. I have heard the cookies are actually really good. I normally ignore cookies but if they're super good, I might try.

I took a co-worker to the casino for lunch. It wasn't a stellar experience, but decent. Corky & Lenny's reuben was good but no discount with a total rewards card, as I had thought - apparently that is only for the buffet. More in the casino thread.

Yeah they use the tablet when they have their lunchtime rush.  Otherwise its just the typical assembly line thing that you would find at subway or Quiznos.

Has nobody been to the "Cleveland Pickle" yet?  Shame.

I have.  The Pickle is great.  I wish i worked downtown and I would be there once a week.  Thats saying alot because I have been packing my own lunch since i was in the 9th grade.

I went. All I can tell you is my sandwich was so disappointing it inspired me to write a monologue about it, which I will be presenting at Cleveland Public Theater. I will give them another chance, but not for awhile.

Is this any relation to the 'Brooklyn Pickle', which is a fantastic sandwich place out of Syracuse, or just a coincidental name choice?

I have.  I had a spicy chicken salad sandwich which was very good, and very filling, and fast service despite the line practically going out the door.

No connection..  It is the former owners of Redstone.  I guess they could have copied the name, but not sure and doubt it.  Apparently they do offer a selection of different types of pickles.

Today was the grand opening of Potbelly. I went in and tried an Oreo Milkshake.

My thoughts:

-The space itself was really cool, it was nice being in there.  :-D

-The staff could use some more training, they didn't really know their product all that well.. but first day, I understand.

-The people in charge all sat at a high table 5 feet from the register, so I felt like I was being watched by hawks, awkward.  :|

-The milkshake itself.. really, really dissapointing.  :-(

The failed creative part of it was that they set two mini oreos on top of my lid and put two circular cookies around the base of the straw. It was just a little much and actually fell off seconds later. I'll stick with Colossal Cake Shakes. Hopefully the food is good.

I got the Italian sandwich.  Very good bread, thought the meat was a bit bland, but not any worse than any of the chain sub joints.  Customer service was friendly.

Can we not overanalyze lunchtime fast food sub shops?  Both Cleveland Pickle and Potbellys offer better than average subs thats are filling, quick, CAN be healthy and creative.  Thats all they are intended to do.  They arent trying to be Cowell And Hubbard, lets not criticize them like they are.  They are both leaps above Subway an Quiznos.

^I think you just over analyzed fast food sub shops.

true, but you wont find me breaking down the sandwich and shake.  If you want a really good meal, go to greenhouse tavern.

You went to Potbellys or the Cleveland Pickle?

Wow, as was said, overkill on sandwich-joint analysis.

--They're sandwiches--

Oviously, though, there is a twisted love affair with them in America if there is a Subway on every corner.

"Good bread, but the meat was a little bland" is over-analyzing?  Should I have even chewed before I swallowed?

Not at all.  Writing a monologue about it may be, however.  All love R n R, just think you're being ttoo tough on those guys.

And for CLE618's post, i thought I was reading a urbanspoon.com review of a Mario Batali restaurant.

Whats next?  Are we going to start doing yelp.com reviews on chick-fil-a?  Maybe we can get John Petkovic from the plain dealer to rate Chipotle on his "olives scale".  Go easy on the sub shops.

I didn't even say anything about it, dang! :)

Im a big pickle and potbellys fan, apparently im a little sensitive to the criticism. LOL

I do want to give Pickle another chance, maybe I will go there today. But I am glad my first experience wasn't good as I wrote a pretty good monologue about it that I'm presenting on Tuesday night, so that's good!

The "sandwich monologue's" at Cleveland Public....  :?

LOL. Actually I will plug the recurring monthly event in another related thread, if I can find an appropriate one.

^So to answer my above question to you, I take it it was Potbellys.

No.

RNR wrote her post on June 5.

Potbelly's 515 Euclid Ave loaction did not officially open until June 6.

By elimination, she was giving her 1-visit-based review about the home-grown Cleve Pickle.

Correct.

where can i get good GOAT CHEESE pizza or cheesecake?

Reddstone on W. 76th has goat cheese pizza.  Their patio bar is now officially open also.

I wonder (am hoping) they still have their insane weekly taco and wing specials.

Their website doesn't list any specials or happy hours.  Attn: Reddstone. This is useful information.

Maybe they have more updated on facebook?

Similar deals but much different format.  Wings are normally priced $9 for 13 I believe, includes celery & ranch/blue cheese on the side.  Wing night is still Tuesday which is half off.  Thurs is taco special night but it's a much larger taco, more ingredients, fresh toppings etc.  I can barely eat 3 of the new style, where I could hammer down 6-8 of the old style

Super, I'm looking forward to some quality time there this summer. Thanks!

Looks like the lunch crowd downtown is definitely curious about Potbelly's

There was a huge line out the door the last 2 days when I went by there. Clearly people are hungry for an alternative and interested in checking out what's new.

Its nice to finally see that spot utilized!

Has nobody been to the "Cleveland Pickle" yet?  Shame.

"the Clevelander" sandwich is AMAZING!

There is now a JB Mack, Mac and cheese kitchen- going on Euclid avenue under university lofts by csu. Looks good!!

Well I'm looking for a CHEAP good meal-- therefore I don't eat at Greenhouse. Of course you're going to analyze something when it opens... Is that illegal?

If you don't like other peoples opinions, don't read them. This IS the restaurant discussion thread...

Thanks, I was wondering what was going to go in there. Looked like a food place when I passed it a month or so ago.

so whats that sandwich? lets hear a review of it - ha!

it better be corned beef...!

Yes it is definitely nice to see more and more spots utilized.

RNR - when i saw you posted a comment, I was ready to get a talking-to about calling it Potbelly's, instead of Potbelly Sandwich Shop.  :-) Maybe we are able to put a possesive 's on this??

It was either that or you were there in line, or crossing the street or on sidewalk -- and saw me snap the pic.

You can call it what you wish. Do you say you went to "Chipotle's" though? :)

Went to Potbelly for lunch today (today being a Saturday), and we were quite impressed with the foot traffic through there - the line never really died down while we were eating.  I had a tuna salad sandwich, and mr Broc had the pizza sandwich.  He did think his sandwich could use a little more meat, but they both tasted good, nonetheless.

The employees were definitely still finding their way a bit, and the GM and some other woman were watching everything very closely.  All in all, I would venture to say they had a pretty good first Saturday.  We'll be back for sure.

nothing healthy about bread, some garbage processed meat thats been GMO grain fed (like pretty much all sources of meat), and some likely GMO/pesticide veggies. people really need to understand what they eat. they probably cost 6-7 bucks too.

is india flame any good? havent been there but saffron patch is overrated & overpriced so i'm thinking of trying it. what does the buffet have as far as choice/value?

re: reddstone.......from the menu it looks to be a clip joint. $9 for wings, $12 for a sandwich/burger, the flatbread with goat cheese is 14. whats the portion size of that?i cant recall any actual local places that you can get whole pizzas with goat cheese. some have 1 with usually a mix........theres dewey's but i dont know how good it is.

^Reddstones portions are sizeable.  They will fill you up.

Because I so rarely get to the E side, I had forgotten how much I like Balaton, which I've only been to a handful of times, but my Mom and I had the day to spend with little RNR today so we went over there for lunch. Their website said they weren't open til 12:30 and the sign on the door said 1, but when we showed up at 12:10 the doors were open so we went on in. Thank God I did not (knock wood) get a picky toddler. He shared my cucumber salad with me, ate two big, thick pieces of bread and butter, half a stuffed cabbage roll and then shared a chicken schnitzel dinner with me, including eating all the applesauce. And then had a cup of ice cream from the coffee shop just on the other side of the square. My Mom had a garlicky type pork cutlet that she didn't care for, but loved the stuffed cabbage and we agreed to come back sooner so we could get more of the goulashy type dishes, which we both love.

Balaton is definitely a stop on a tour of Cleveland's ethnic restaurants...

A place called J.B. Mack -- Macaroni and cheese Kitchen is opening in the ground floor retail around 20th & Euclid (CSU).

The sign says Mon July 16

^^

I just want to act like your typical UO poster  :police: and say this was already posted upthread if you read through

Just messin with you

I'm excited for this place because it is not another sandwich shop around CSU, definitely something different and it looks nice inside!

I've been wondering why there's no venue downtown for original music at any bars (other than Wilbert's).  I hope Lounge 21 is a nice venue.

http://www.cleveland.com/dining/index.ssf/2012/06/21_lounge_in_cleveland_trying.html

Wow good question. The Flats were filled with live original music. Lots! Then as the WHD came into play seems those bars were DJ or cover band oriented. I'm not sure why downtown proper isn't more happening, though Wilberts is really great. Now Lakewood on the other hand, that is a mecca. Especially Madison. Some venues are cover oriented, but I hope they remain the exception and not the rule.

I dont eat there often, the food is so filling!  Try spicy sausage stew - YUMMY!!!  I have soft spot for their onion rings  Oh and the duck breast is really good as well!

You gotta love this, future home of Black Dog Kitchen & Bar
