I was looking at the hours for the downtown Subways after walking by the one on East 9th and seeing how busy it was at 8pm last night. According to their website, there's a new Subway coming to the Southworth Building. I assume this will be in the old Sushi 86 spot. Also, I noticed many Subways downtown are open until 10pm. I'm not a big Subway eater, but it's nice to see places staying open after 6pm. That is where Mirch Masala was supposed to go, but would not surprise me if it became a Subway. Especially seen as that spot always had some restaurant "coming soon". Also, that would explain why it appears there is finally construction happening there. now thats a damn shame if its a subway sub shop because the chinese/indian 'mirch' mixup is one of the best cuisines ever, especially if you like spicy foods. google mirch and check out the menu of anyplace that comes up -- it will make you hungry instantly! so if no go there hopefully it opens somewhere else downtown. Subway may not be taking the Mirch Masala spot. There are two storefronts in the 2013 Ontario building and both had lights on this morning with the standard redevelopment paper up on the windows. Would not surprise me either way, but hopefully something happens as that spot has been empty for almost 2 years I think now.
October 23, 201212 yr I'm not surprised about Prime Rib Steakhouse either. If anyone wanted to make something work in that location, it would have to be something you can't get anywhere else, and have valet parking.
October 24, 201212 yr ^I think the location can work, but you must serve lunch there and have some way of drawing people in the evenings. I thought the House of Cues was actually a really good fit for the location because they had a decent lunch, hosted corporate events in their private room, and drew people in that live downtown and want to play pool. It was also a low key escape from W6th for some on Friday and Saturday nights... But the owner of the House of Cues was doing back flips when he sold the place so I guess he made out pretty well.

The signage has recently disappeared and the space is dead empty. Also - Myxx at Cedar-Fairmount shutdown. I hope the next tenant can utilize the gigantic space better than a gigantic dancefloor. Also - World of Beer signage is up in downtown Lakewood, across from Melt and next door to Eddie & Eddie's. That entire block is full of new retail/food/bar and imo is the hottest new area in NE Ohio right now as there is also a Panera, Menchie's, Five Guys, Quaker Steak, Deagan's, Roots Cafe, Chipotle, Jimmy John's, Buyback$, Exchange, Aladdin's, Robek's, Pacer's, Rozi's and it's new patio, and like 50 other places that already existed or are very recent - so many I can't keep up w/ it. We finally settled on purchasing on the east side (after being out of the area for nearly 15 years), but previously lived walking distance to downtown Lakewood. The East side has its places, but I really have to put alot of thought into it... The West side seems to have many more great choices (We need a Deagans on Lee!).
November 5, 201212 yr Went to Accent on Friday. The space is amazing, absolutely love the look and feel. Definitely visually impressive. All of our food and drinks were fantastic as well. Very unique, hope others have the same great experience.

Also - anybody see B Spot's announcement today of (crazy) new whole restaurant (not just bar) Happy Hour 3-6 Monday-Friday? $5 All burgers, $1 Lola fries, $2 brats/bologna, $3 beers, etc.. Not sure the impetus behind this, or why the somewhat long HH hours and extra-low prices. By all accounts, these places do real well - I've rarely been there anytime it's not 50%+ full - even at off hours, and usually a wait during dinner, etc... - but it would seem to point to true lunch, dinner and nothing in between business. But for the whole restaurant at these prices? Does that cheapen the overall product if you arrive at 3:10 and realize, even in the dining room, you could've had 50% off your burger and 75% off fries 10 minutes earlier, even with kids in tow who wouldn't qualify for normal Happy Hour? Hmmmm....
November 5, 201212 yr I think it's a smart promotion to start as we head into winter, when people are more likely to quickly go home and hide in front of the doritos bag and the TV. Or is that just my home? This woudl seriously lead me to stop by there with my kid on the way home from school and attempt a meal at a restaurant with him on a night I don't have anything ready for us to quickly reheat and eat and don't feel like cooking.

Hmmmm.... No its called Brand extension. You get people into your restaurant who would normally not come or would like to come but cannot afford it. This gives them a chance to sample the brand.

November 6, 201212 yr Maybe, but I think you're overestimating the research budget of indie restaurants. Usually, they use their professional judgement about their clientele and their cost structure more than research, per se.

November 6, 201212 yr It seems that Google has updated its Zagat ratings to the 2013 edition, which is funny since the Zagat website still shows last year's ratings. Crop went down to 26 from 28, but many restaurants moved up, including Giovanni's (to 29) and my personal favorite, L'Albatros, to 28. Also a nice surprise was that Ty Fun was Zagat rated for the first time, and debuted at a 28 rating!

Depends what they pay for the keg. They should get just a bit less than 120 pints out of that keg (15 gallons - some loss during keg changes). That's $360-ish. High end micro kegs like that might run up to $200 or so, but I don't know what 90 minute costs exactly. They're already paying rent, utilities, salaries, debt service, etc, so they are squeezing extra profit out of those costs by bringing people in during a time they would probably be twiddling their thumbs otherwise. They could cut maybe a little labor by having people come in later for the dinner shift, but I don't think it would save much because it would mostly be half min wage front of the house they would cut.

November 9, 201212 yr I have some foodie friends who have gone to Emperor's palace twice now. It seems when the dishes are on, they're very good, but they are about 50% in terms of success rates of the dishes. Maybe they're still working out the kinks.

November 27, 201212 yr According to Jibaro food trucks website, they have opened a pizza place at 14210 Madison. Awesome. Quietly Madison is becoming a underground food street. Not your fine dining (sans players), but chill places where you can grab unique eats. Angelos, Tacos Tantos, Barrocco, Mahalls 20 lanes, Jibaro Pizza, etc. Would like to see those bike lanes on Madison to be discussed at December 3rd Lakewood City Council meeting.
